How are the Yakuza Dynamic Intros so Appealing?

- Considering I've made a bunch of videos about them, I thought it would be interesting to look at what RGG Studio actually do to make their dynamic intros special. I mostly look at the visual effects applied for each game, but I also go a bit more in depth for some of them. Also SPOILERS.
You know if you join the channel you actually get your own Dynamic Intro? (For legal reasons this is false but you can join anyway)
/ @snowiestangeman
Yeah I don't look at Ishin Kiwami/Like a Dragon: Ishin but from what gameplay exists the intro styles are very similar to Yakuza: Like a Dragon but in black and white. Put it in the thumbnail though to show old vs new, y'know?
Unfortunately given what I'm covering I can't avoid spoilers. So here are the timestamps:
Intro/Before Yakuza 3 0:00
Yakuza 3 1:35
Yakuza 4 3:35
Yakuza 5 4:10
Ishin! (2014) 4:52
Yakuza 0 7:10
Yakuza Kiwami 7:41
Yakuza 6 8:51
Yakuza Kiwami 2 10:29
Judgment (Lost Judgment/The Kaito Files too) 11:31
Actual Lost Judgment/The Kaito Files Footage 12:39
Yakuza: Like a Dragon 12:56
Conclusion 14:46
Outro (Spoilers for everything ever) 15:43
Certain games have the exact same visual style as each other, so there may be some overlap. The styles that exist are as follows:
Yakuza 3/4/5
Ishin/Yakuza 0/Kiwami 1
Yakuza 6/Kiwami 2
Judgment/Lost Judgment
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
If that ^ doesn't make sense, you'll see what I mean in the video.
Songs:
Yakuza Kiwami 2 - Rebellious Phase
Yakuza - Funk Goes On
Yakuza 3 - Fly
Persona 4 - The Almighty
Tekken 7 - Vermilion Gates
Ace Combat Zero - Zero
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Ultimate Enemy (official name)
I promise you, Square Enix, that it is not Final Fantasy VII Remake - Infinity's End. I swear.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon - Receive You The Hyperactive
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Immediate Threat (official name) - Hry
This video took a while to make. Not because I had any particular trouble with the editing, but because everything in the known universe wanted to interrupt my progress every day. Also ‘cause I had to get up to the final boss of Yakuza 3 again lol. Speaking of, the final boss of 3 I kinda have to show considering it’s the first dynamic intro so it is shown again during the Like a Dragon section.
chicken wing chicken wing hotdog and baloney chicken and macaroni chilling with my homies
Just started the video so excuse me if you explained, but why didn't you use a save file?
@@BoTheJo Messed up and saved over it lol
These intros are always some of my favorite parts about any game. Beautiful work here covering all of these! Really appreciate the mentions, you're always more than welcome to use any footage from me, man, don't feel bad about it ❤
It's such an honour to hear you liked it! If it wasn't for your videos I probably would've stopped playing the games after Kiwami 2 tbh so I thank you very much for that :) and yeah I try to use all my own footage but there's some stuff I unfortunately can't record so thank you for understanding
Dude, the sex defenders joke legitimately had me rolling on the floor when I first saw it. 10/10 joke would mod it into LJ
I'm very glad because I thought it was hilarious haha
Had me about dead as well
Legit the sex defenders intro was my fav of that whole vid. If I could mod better this would be the first thing I'd do!
(Also just wanna say that vid was my first time seeing LJ and I deadass thought that was the real intro lol. With them talking about being labeled as an offender it just fit so well)
@@TheSooperBooper I'm glad I managed to trick some people haha
Ever since I saw my first Yakuza dynamic intro in Zero, I only had one wish.
To improve myself so much, that if any random dude saw me, the Yakuza dynamic intro would play in his head.
Based man
I Hope ishin adds new dynamic intros, kondo and bald daigo deserves ones
I hope in 5 months someone replies saying that you got what you wished for
@@SnowiestAngeman why do u not like Yakuza 3 and 4?
Personally I love the intro screen compositions like Arai vs Akiyama where the screen is perfectly diagonally split, or Kiryu vs Nishiki where the whole thing looks like a yin and Yang symbol, but if we’re talking sheer impact, Aizawa’s intro with A QTE INSIDE THE INTRO gotta take too spot.
hi petur
@@jumboratt615 Ratto
13:54 Should be noted that the swirly transition is not actually present until Ichi gets the baseball bat. Heck that first battle also lampshades it REALLY HARD.
And speaking of Yakuza 7, can we talk about the "spotlight from heaven" people get to indicate when its their turn?
You are very correct about the bat thing and it didn't even occur to me until you said that. I guess I just ignored when it didn't happen 'cause I was so used to it haha
I don't know if this makes you feel better about 15:25 , but for me, that is one of the funniest Yakuza memes I have seen since knowing the series and when I remember it randomly it's really hard not to laugh out loud.
Thank you it does make me feel better and supports my mental wellbeing
@@SnowiestAngeman truly
Fun Fact;
Ps2 Ryuji w/ Katana was THE ONLY boss fight that didn't have the two simply standing there and looking cool.
Ryuji waved his sword around like some crazy lunatic, and probably dulled it for the sake of cool sparks.
Oml yass yass. I was so sad that that intro didn't make it into this vid. Plus K2 did that intro dirty 😭 But at least K2 made that final intro to compensate for robbing us that bad.
@@prithyachan333 how tf did they "rob us that bad"? Is that an overexaggeration or something?
Isn't that a dynamic intro kinda?
@@morkgin2459 yeah, kinda, basically the first technical dynamic intro
K2 was a disappointing remake in general, sadly.
One of the most anticipating stuff for me in like a dragon games are the dynamic intros, idk it's just like a huge dopamine dose suddenly in you.
I love these video essay style videos. Your personality shines through so much!😃
Thank you Arthur :)
@@oloy1545 good one
There are many iconic intros in the series but the one before Majima octagon fight in Kiwami 2 is definately the best one. Two biggest names in the series starting the fight in a way that perfectly captures their style and personality - Kiryu going for the faint and powerful kick while Majima doing some sick dodge and slidning on his knees like a boss and all this with iconic Receive You playing in the background. Peak Yakuza.
The dynamic intros are always just so hype!
Dynamic intros just get me extremely hyped every time they occur
As someone who is also obsessed with dynamic intros, great video! My favorite one has to be the one from the first fight with Kuroiwa. It is just so intimidating and the way the music syncs is just *chefs kiss*
10:31
I noticed that music sync with that Dynamic Intro
Glad you did Mr Senator
Your deep love and knowledge for the series shines through so much in your video essays, so glad to see more of them!
Kuroiwa's Dynamic intro is the best it get me hyped
This was a really well made video, thank you so much for this and keep up the great Yakuza content!
More videos analyzing specific Yakuza things (or anything else) please these are absolutely entertaining
Great vid man, that outro felt very nostalgic some reason. Keep that up!
Another great essay type video from the GOAT. Great job, final edit goes hard AF
Man, thank you for your work that is underrated in my opinion.
Not only I learn more about this legendary series while appreciating your humoristic montage but it helps a lot to wait for the release of each opus.
It is coal for the hype train!
Amazing video, expecting more!
That was an insane outro. Nice video
Glad you liked it :)
I’ve been binging your videos while drawing lately and your stuff is some of the most interesting and well-edited (not to mention hilarious) videos I’ve seen. Great work!
Wait are you Mephikal as in the Nanba appreciator? I love your art. Unless it's not you in which case ignore me lol
@@SnowiestAngeman Aw heck my cover is blown! Ahah… yeah that’s me! 😂 Thanks so much!! I’m really glad you like my work!
Love your analysis videos ! Keep it up man ! (Just liked it ✌)
I'd just like to say that the way you synced Xenoblade 3's Final Superboss Theme was fucking AMAZING when talking about Y6 and YK2, I was getting hype just hearing those drops with the title cards.
Making an outro with a bunch of intros, Amazing 😎
That compilation at the end was so cool! If I somehow wasn't subscribed already I would be then
holy fuck that sync comp at the end is absolute bliss, please do more
the destiny sunbreaker titan boss fight is one of my favorite boss fights in the like a dragon franchise
Same but also jokes aside that mission from actual Destiny is cool as shit
about that font in the remasters:
the font is still edo sz, just bold with a thinner outline for some reason
Well yeah it's the same but not really the same haha
Another banger Yakuza video as always, I love these awesome videos
Thank you Kabi_dot_png
@@SnowiestAngeman no problem dad
That Kuze dynamic intro in his 2nd fight made me go " holy shit".
Next thing they will change the color of the text based on who the boss fight is, like red if the boss is Kiryu/Joryu, or cyan if it is Ichiban, for instance.
Brilliant video love it
Amazing video
Finally something decent from a (hopefully only for now) small creator in my recommendations. Such a great video, subbed!
Thank you very much :) glad to hear that my videos are popping up in recommendations
More games should use these for their more significant fights.
Amazing job! Thank you algorithm for sending me here
Based as hell
Of all videos, I would've never expected SPEEN to be a part of this one.
Just a note if noone else has said it already: The font in used in the remasters is still Edo SZ, it's just bold and italicized unlike the other games where it's used.
Crazy how Aionios’s Strongest works so well as a Yakuza Boss Theme. That aside great Video!!!
the dynamic intro is cool
Oh that ending was cool as fuck! I'd never noticed all the differences between games, this was very informative!
Yakuza 2 id argue had a dynamic intro with Ryuji when he uses the samurai sword making it the earliest dynamic intro technically
Yeah you're right but it's a bit different to how the rest of the series does them. Without any slow mo or anything it's more akin to those street encounters where an enemy taunts you like in 5 so ye
@@SnowiestAngeman yeah but it's kinda the start
You madman, why did you have to put the SPEEN sound in, I was drinking
Edit: Biden vs The Stairs was too much, A++
I jumped into the series with Zero like so many others, and while I was enjoying it the whole time for the most part, there's no doubt in my mind the thing that really hooked me for good were those intros. For whatever reason they just make those fights seem about a hundred times more epic then they woudl be wihtout them, which is quite impresive for afew seconds of text on a screen.
Lmao this video was very funny, good job funny angeman
It’s awesome to see how all these intros have changed over time because they REALLY add a cool spice to boss fights that many other games don’t do. Although I noticed that while it doesn’t use text, something like FF7 Remake incorporates these sorts of things really well and it’s cool.
The Kaito Files final boss is really cool in particular though, I love that it PERFECTLY syncs with the boss title card. Great video man!
Xenoblade 3 is also another recent game that has done boss fight intros really well (hence my choice of music lol). BUT MAN THE SEPHIROTH FIGHT IS SICK AS
@@SnowiestAngeman FAX DUDE. A lot of the transitions with the music were done in a really cool way in Xenoblade 3 but man that final boss of FF7R is insanio
MGR
always loved how yakuza has those animations, and how the name/title of the boss appears before you fight them. other games should follow suit
I might be crazy but the Y3;R english font may just be Edo SZ bolded. You can see the similarities
fucking love this video man. love seeing your content evolve :D
Cheers mate glad you like it
Man just recently found your channel, and I gotta say, love the amount of work you put into your videos! Can you give some tips on recreating the LAD dynamic intros? I've been mostly struggling with making the text "land" on the screen (idk how I'd even google that lol) and replicating those sick fire rings as you mentioned.
Something I like to think back at Yakuza 3, from the Ps3, is of the players that got to see the first time the dynamic intro. Thinking that maybe the fight was going to begin like all the others, then BAM! They got to see a tasty intro, that pionered one of the BEST things about the game.
Also, another game from the franchise that has its "dynamic intros" but different is the spin off series Kurohyou, for the PSP. They way they do is that, since it has comic book style cutscenes, when you are facing a boss their name (that appears as "VS" following the name of the opponet) appear in this cutscenes, then when it cut to the game there's a small intro to the fight. It's nothing at the level of the main games, but for a PSP game is really cool that they tried to replicate the dynamic intros in some way in them, which honestly gives the main fights more hype, to me. If this series ever get a Kiwami treatment (by God, I HOPE they do, since I try to see Like a Dragon Ishin as a sign to have hope for it haha), they could very well make a proper and more grand Dynamic Intro for the fights ^^
What about Yakuza 2 PS2 Ryuji 2nd fight?
the ps2 version of yakuza 2 actually does have a kind of pseudo-dynamic intro for sword ryuji where he shows off his sword moves but that's the only such time I know of in any of the pre yakuza 3 games
very well written video!! love your narration and i'm glad you kept comments about your comments on the games themselves to a minimum, good shit
9:14 song really fits the dynamic intro to the point that I thought it was really in the game
It’s like I’m playing a movie
The slow motion, the words, the standstills, the second kuze fight, the final boss fight against nishki, the boss fight against kiryu in both 4 and 7, all of them are so intense
shit i actually learned something from this video, like the cutscene-gameplay transitions and little effects like the circles. I'm assuming kurohyous have no intros?
you should consider making a dynamic intros tier list btw last i saw tier lists automatically multiply viewcount by like 100
The Kurohyou games have intros for all the bosses but they aren't like the main games, main thing being that when it says the enemy's name is in a menu before you start the fight
Another great video as always, while watching I'm wondering that now since Judgment/Lost Judgment is now on PC, if you'll make an addendum to your ultrawide sync videos with the games. I really enjoyed those videos whenever you made them. Thanks for making these as always.
Never knew how badly I needed to see Yakuza intros with XC3 music until now.
Love this video man,I'm so glad that the series finally has lots of fans worldwide.I'd like to ask a question,do you guys prefer the Japanese characters or simply English in dynamic intros?
Yakuza 3 title font is the bold version of Edo Sz so its still the same font but a bit more THICC
Unironically I really enjoy those QTE random street encounters in Yakuza 3 (and like 1 in 4), I'm sad they got rid of them. Great video btw
Nah that’s understandable. They add a bit more variety when compared to their usual static stances before the fights lol
Its cool the first couple of times but after awhile they become time wasters thats why
@@coolwolf5425 but they are rare for me and more qtes
@@morkgin2459 I'm mainly talking about them talking to you first so you have to skip through a couple of text boxes before you can fight them
@@coolwolf5425 those take 2 min the highest.
Because they are made with love.
Mans the best
Seems like in the Ishin Kiwami, they take a similar style to Yakuza 7, but the ring of fire is now a ring of pink pedals or something?
I’m glad I played kiwami first, because while I enjoyed the game a lot, I didn’t love it, until I saw the Nishiki intro. It was so hype
technically sword Ryuji in the ps2 yakuza 2 did have a dynamic intro
True actually
I think RGG should just hire you as the dynamic intro director at this point
Something about this video tells me you started on Yakuza 0
Yeah you can tell because I talk about 0 for 30 seconds. Great work. I'm so proud of your deduction. Members of the community such as yourself deserve so many awards. More than I could ever imagine.
Outro feels much better starting from here
15:40
The xenoblade 3 music goes HARD AF🔥
15:25 In my defence, I played LJ in Italian, so when I saw it in your video I thought it was the actual in-game thing
Explain
@@Strangesolstice Explain what?
@@maxstrazza9920 why did you think the sex defenders were real?
@@Strangesolstice I just did, I guess
Fun Fact: The Remastered game's title card font is just Edo SZ with italics and is boldened.
Yakuzas dynamic intro always hype me up before a fight
Ichiban vs kiryu intro is one of my favs you as the player know your a bout to get destroyed and to top it off kiryu just ignores a punch to the head
I'm still mad they didn't add a dynamic intro for Kuze's final confrontation in Yakuza 0.
10/10 video because The Almighty is used as background music
FYI the font in the title cards in yakuza 3/4/5 remastered is edo sz but bold and italic
You are indeed correct. I should've said they didn't use the font in the standard way that they had always done, so my bad
@@SnowiestAngeman great video btw, I'm glad I'm not the only one obsessing over the dynamic intros
1:40, nah, you didn't deserve Majima's watermelon, I'm taking it back
4 words. Music, timing, framing, animations.
Two extra words: sex appeal
I don't mind reading the title card subtitles as long as I get to see the uninteresting text about what part of the hierarchy of what organization the boss belongs to in Japanese.
Mate thought he would drop the best sync in a non related syncing video and thought we wouldn't realise 10:29
Hello mr destiny solar titan who makes yakuza videos.
Final fantasy 7 remake also have dynamic intro
What song is in the background at 11:40 .sounds real familiar to me
Unironically, a lot of my superman game ideas stem from yakuza lol
I always do the intro thingy with GTA 5 but I still struggle to replicate the red/pink circle
And I will definitely not figure out a way how to make that ring of fire
4:52 us after this: You may cry no longer. We can now be happy.
What about character intros, and the weird thing about kiryu's intro in yakuza 1/yakuza kiwami is the only one with a different sound effect
thanks for this vid. gave me inspiration to recreate a frame of the dynamic intros scenes in a 3d software i use called koikatsu party. (nsfw alert if ur interested)

I’ll be honest, my favorite intro is the Hiroshima thug intro fight. That one intro hyped me up when i first played yakuza 6
can you make a tutorial on how you make a dynamic intro ?
The ones that are at the final bosses are usually the best, only exception is Yakuza 7 because Kiryus fight intro is the best in Yakuza 7😊

Dynamic intros should be applied to other games imo

this is a late observation but I believe that the remaster version’s title card is still Edo SZ but it’s just bolded and italicized!
