- After decades as the "best kept secret in the Middle East," the Sultanate of Oman is now encouraging visitors. However, this country of 3-million people is taking a selective approach to tourism. Viewed from the philosophical perspective of Oman's former ambassador to the US, this short documentary looks at the interpersonal and societal considerations involved in opening Oman to the outside world.

I pray Oman NEVER becomes like Dubai. May Oman always keep it's rich, traditional character. May it always remain free and peaceful.
sugarsnap mama you're right.
We don't want to become like Dubai also "without oil and money"? Dubai and the whole of UAE along side Qatar was part of Oman one day so all that money came from Oman some how ;)
true madam..dubai is like cheapipay....
Donald Kasper dubai will never be like OMAN I stayed both the place there is way huge difference between the people oman and UAE
can't touch can you explain what is the difference exactly?
How fortunate I am to live in this beautiful country.
Hi
The Best Country in the world is Oman and the kindest world people are Omanians, best regards from Kuwait.
it shows that even dictatorships can care about it's population, a capitalist dictatorship that gives it's people what they need and offers them a good standard of living
Oman is a country like no other in this world. It is absolutaly amazing, welcoming, quiet yet full of energy, slow paced life yet advancing and most of all peaceful and quiet. LOVE IT. I wish I could go back and work and live there.... Miss it much!

Hallelujah!!! God Bless Oman!! from the Philippines from this video I saw and learned the fruitful of there tradition, culture and a positive way of life on how they governed their country.
My favorite and best country in middle east is Sultanate of Oman, because Oman is a beautiful country, the people are highly educated and give respect to all expatriates and the country was ruled by His Excellency Sultan Qaboos bin Said , and he developed the country with the resources of Oman , I know because as I was working in Oman for the Royal Navy of Oman since 1983 and Oman was my first country to step in, that's why I like Sultanate of Oman. May Almighty Allah keep the Sultan of Oman good health and recover his health soon .
I Love this country and call it my second home! I miss you so much Oman!
Proud to be Omani and welcome you all to my country

I always respect Philippine workers here u guys never make trouble and always kind and happy
Blessed to stay in such a beautiful, peaceful and friendly country....
The Canadians here explain it quite well. The Islamic world, especially the Gulf region is very misunderstood, and other Muslim countries get tarnished unfairly by those who don't care to learn anything about them. Much respect for Oman! Hope to visit someday.
you're welcome 😊
I must say, I'm originally from Somalia and Omani people remind me of my people so much, And our histories go back thousands of years. I will definitely be visiting soon Insh'Allah
Aisha Ahmed Screw u!
ceilingsandfloors Oman isn't a place to visit unless ur fascinated by rocks. No man made Shit here will impress u. It will only be u and the rocks.
Saleh Abdallah we have rocks , sands, and beaches , we have history , castles, we have green mountains in salalah.
We have shopping centers , malls
I never realized it's beauty when I lived there.... Now the slightest hint of arab music.... Scent of a shawarma or jasmin perfume ....... Leaves me longing for the day Id return....
I lived for 24 years in this magical country.
Illona'n'Peter Metcalfe is it safe for americans? I'd like to visit Oman someday

Halofaki Family from the Beautiful Islands of Fiji and now residing in the Sultanate of Oman.
While sadly some of the middle east destroys its culture and symbols Oman maintains and builds them. Oman, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan all are doing better than other neighboring countries. I have a friend in Oman, I hope Oman stays nice!
Don't worry. we didn't change 😄
May Allah show me a day I could arrive in oman.
Really like to be here
I am not interested in Dubai, but i'd like to visit the sultanate of Oman.
The reason is a trip to KL from Paris onboard Oman air aircrafts and the very pleasant service in the plane... Plus the view of the sultanate when we landed in Muscate
I love Oman. May God give long life to his Majesty sultan qaboos and may Oman never lose its unique identity

I really hope to have the opportunity to visit Oman soon - it looks like a lovely country with so much natural beauty and cultural richness. The reason I most want to visit is because it ISN'T Dubai or Bahrain, and has an identity all its own. Unfortunately that's becoming so rare in today's world.
Even I was working in Oman as Secretary. And my Omani friends r also Alhamdolillah very nice

I visited Oman 30 years after I left, having lived there for 6 years back in 80s. Astonished to see Oman developed in such a way that does not reflect so much of glare and glitter that you see in rest of the gulf countries such as emirates, Qatar etc. Pleasantly surprised to see its citizens have become more humble even after being educated and ever so wealthy unlike other gulf countries people.
love that old man im in Oman 10 years now and Oman is opening slowly in a controlled manor not in a greedy way it is like a flower slowly but surely
Looking forward to visiting Oman- this month, actually.
Have fun but that's a dark country where women are being killed for stupid reasons.
Patricia Namyalo have you heard of any cases ?!
Stop spreading animosity, Omani's are one of the best Arab nation as a people, I have traveled all over the gulf states and North Africa.....I'm a Somali Londoner and I love my Omani/Yemeni/Sudani and Maghribi people. May Allah bless you all

Nice English accent , Omani people have!! Arabic touch is void in their speaking!!! Beautiful!!!!
Beautiful country! !
Oman is pristine beauty.. it's real, Oman tourism is more of quality than quantity.. Oman never disturb nature and their development is along natural lines.. Tall buildings can be seen anywhere but you'll never get the feel of Oman.. Trust me I lived in both Oman and Dubai, Abu Dhabi 😍😍😍

I love Oman. So glad it's not like the fake and materialistic Dubai. Oman and it's lovely people have character, grace, and tradition. Much of the Arab world unfortunately sold those traits of their great civilizations out years ago.

Oman the Canada of the middle East
Scott Sterling canada is the oman of north America.
Canada is in no way comparable to Oman, it's much more like Switzerland in the 20th century
@@federicoxxx.jjjh.f2sss348 3 years later and now I agree with you
I wish my country like Canada 😅
I worked in Muscat in 2008 what I seen then and now its huge difference its strides of development in all aspects 👍
I like my country oman ..
I'm very like Oman because Oman is beautiful country
me gusto ese pais, nice people..
A lot of Omanis are originally iranian and they have had good relation with Persians in the whole history.
They are highly respected by Iranians on the contrary to some other arab countries.
Hopefully that tadition will continue in the future.
Dubai should learn from Oman how to be polite and treat foreigners simply building big malls and burj dubai
I lov oman very peaceful neat and clean a beautiful country
Oman very unique cultute and beautiful place 🌏🌟dubai only building any country many same dubai this normal. 😬😅
17. If you were following a living prophet, would you argue every year on the dates of the feasts and the appearance of the moon after Eid El-Fitr? And it is in this confusion that you want to lead mankind? If mankind followed God through his prophets, would there be several religions and would each religion have its holy book and its own practices? And do you not know that it’s a confusion and the devil is behind that? The way to lead the earth to God is one and this way is called living prophet. And to preach that there should no longer be prophets is a crime against humanity.
Oman I love too much because of Oman what I am today. Long live Sultan Quboos
Wonderful Oman. Betty Hatter

I like omanis people, very polite and respectful
please, oman, remain as beautiful as you are, and never ever become a plastic dubai!
i love Oman Muslim people
Uzzal Dewan Muslims and Non-Muslims are all welcomed in peace.
Somethimes I wish all muslims in the world were Ibadi, just like in Oman. Very peaceful, open minded and tolerant poeple.
Sargento Bonzo If people just accepted each other differences.
Islam did not come in to eliminate other religions, but rather to live in harmony with them. This is the true message of Islam.
Omani' people are one of the kindest people, and I'm not Omani.
I love oman

The only political documentary about Oman
vimeo.com/261589513
czcams.com/video/-Z_QZMV8Xg8/video.html
The investigative documentary film addresses the social and human rights struggle after the crackdown on demonstrators during the 2011 protests in the Sultanate of Oman.
Oman, which was described by The Economist as the world’s most charming police state seems to have many hidden political secrets. The film follows Oman’s first internet blogger, poet, writer and human rights activist Muawiyah Alrawahi, and poet and activist Habiba Alhanai.
Alrawahi disappeared on the 24th of February 2015 during a trip to the neighboring country United Arab Emirates (UAE). His disappearance was politically motivated and was most likely a joined effort between the UAE and the Omani intelligence services. He was detained for about 16 months at the notorious Al Wathba prison in Abu Dhabi. He was subjected to torture and ill-treatment and was placed with pirates, terrorist suspects, and criminals. His crime was his internet blogging, human rights activities, and defending other Omani activists.
Al-Rawahi's testimony addresses the political situation in Oman prior to his kidnapping by the UAE. The film was shot two weeks after Muawiyah Alrawahi was released from prison in the United Arab Emirates. Three months after the shooting of the film, Muawiyah Alrawahi was again targeted by the Omani intelligence service - fearing for his life he fled to the UK and is now a political refugee living underground.
This documentary is a film of two parts. The second part is based on interviews with author Abdullah Habib, Said AlHashimi, Mohamed AlYahyai, and political refugees in Europe like Mohamed AlFazari, Nabhan AlHanshi, Mohamed AlHarithy and Khalfan AlBadwawi.
