First of all, thank you so much for this excellent video. I wonder why do we need a jump server? just for our own access or what else? From what I understand, ALB is accessible from the internet and people access our server through ALB. However I couldn't understand why we created a jump server.

Hi Shamil, If we create three NAT gateways in one AZ each, you will have to create separate route tables for that layer. You can’t have multiple NAT gateways in a single route table.

When configuring ALB, initially Public Subnets is selected along with their respective AZs, but in the target groups App/Private Server is selected... So I am having a doubt that we need to route the traffic to the APP Servers of the Private Subnets then why Public Subents are selected initially??
Hi Jay, We need the ALB to be deployed across the public subnet as it needs to be accessible over the internet. However your app servers can be in a private subnet.
Thanks for the helpful video. I'm experiencing an issue at 15:26 - I am operating on a Windows machine and using Putty to connect to my EC2 Instances. I am not able to upload my key file to my Putty terminal. I have tried a number of troubleshooting methods with no luck. This is preventing me from using the NAT gateway to access the Instance in my Private Subnet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Nicholas, If you have a pem file, on the jump server create a new file .pem using vi / touch and paste the contents of the pem file downloaded on your local machine. Post that do a chmod 400 .pem. You show be able to SSH on the app server after performing this steps. Let me know if the problem persists.

Please try to mention type of EC2 probably we can select as per sample requirement examples. Hi, You can’t connect to the PHP instance directly from your local as they reside in a private subnet. You need to first ssh into the jump server. Copy the keys to the jump server and then connect to the app server.

Thanks Pooja, glad it was helpful for you! I haven’t consumed the third AZ as it is a demo, for real life scenarios if your budget permits and you need that kind of resilience, you must always use all 3 AZs.
Why while configuring Load Balancer you have selected public web subnets to route traffic, while in target groups you have selected php server which are not there in those subnets ?

Jump server is required to access private resources like EC2 and RDS instances, ALB won't give you access to the servers.

Did you copy the key from your local to the jump server? If not - create it using vi command, save it and then chmod 400

Load balancer is used here to expose your application to the internet. The PHP servers are in the private subnet.
