The challenge would be determining when it is "reasonable", in my mind if a crook is on my property without my permission and I have no idea what his intentions are I should be able to use any force I want, he simply should stay off of other people's property.

Because a skilled prosecutor can't tell a compelling story to the jury if the victim is dead?

@@jos_meidyou’ve seen too much law & order, the prosecutors aren’t allowed to just make up a story with no evidence

@@johnmarshall351 If the defendant actually kills someone, there's not going to be "no evidence" of murder. Even in relatively clear self defense cases, there is usually plenty of evidence that a prosecutor can use to establish a prima facie case for murder, because self defensed is an affirmative defense.
Also, I don't really watch law and order. I've seen a few episodes. I did graduate from law school though for what that's worth.

BUT! Under Texas law if force is justified (and "voice" is a level of force) "a threat to cause death or serious bodily injury by the production of a weapon or otherwise, as long as the actor's purpose is limited to creating an apprehension that he will use deadly force if necessary, does not constitute the use of deadly force."
A distant cousin of mine who is an attorney told me to wait until the badguy crosses the threshold into my bedroom before shooting him. That way I have proof of his intent to harm me and/or my wife when it comes to the wrongful death suit. Did I mention I keep a loaded (including one in the chamber) Glock 22 beside my bed?
