Flightline is a good handicap horse. Looking at the races and prices, he had a race.
6 races, would you pay his stallion rate. Would he of trained on?
Owners were right to retire him and take the money.
Look at Frankel, a proven champion and now breeding the next generation.

I agree they definitely know what they are doing. His cover fee of $200k with a book of 150 mares ensures a profit of a cool $30m a year. How much chance is there of you earning that in a season racing? Although, I also have a feeling that he may have had a few setbacks along the way which is why he didn't appear many times and that may have had an influence on why they chose to retire him. To me Frankel is the greatest horse we've seen in history I think he would've won the derby and arc if they had gone for them.

I agree with you but for those fees we don't know enough about him to take that chance.
Frankel won 9 group 1s on different goings and proved himself training on.
I think that the owners of Flightline took the money option because there were to many ??? about him.

Into Mischief is going to annihilate the crap out of Flightline. He breaks his record each year and it THE MOST DESIRED STALLION. 6 races doesn't make your crop worth 200 grand. His value will drop drastically. And fast. Mark my world's. The kings (top stallions) will put him in line in the shed. Flightlines bloodline could be crap. He's not worth 180 million. Nor 200 grand. They will lose money. And they will learn not to over price a colt that ran 6 months pretty much. Justify American Pharaoh Tapit and Into Mischief are the undisputed kings. AND INTO MISCHIEF IS A SIRE OF SIRES. HIS SONS HAVE JOINED HIM IN THE SHED. Again. Flightline ISNT S**T. You EARN your authority in the shed. It's not given to you for 6 races. I'm sure SPENDTHRIFT (where authentic, goldcents, and into mischief) stand as stallions. I own shares in authentic.

@@racingcentral5054 well I'm pretty sure he'll have a hard time filling 150 mares at 200k a shot because these money people did t get UT by giving it away 200k for an unproven stud I don't see it because there better proven stallions that you can get a lot cheaper and face it the breeding shed is a whole new game they have to prove themselves at and like I said the people that are in that part of the game don't usually spend that kind of money on unproven they may but after 3 or 4 years if he ain't producing very good looking and very good running offspring his stud fee will drop to 10k. Green monkey they o aid 16 million for him and I think his stud fee is 7500 dollars so you are in a whole new game. And face it there's been many good runners that can't spit out one good race horse literally spit out duds. Lol

      @racingcentral5054  Před rokem +1

@@MikeSmith-cn6ub True, there is no guarantee with him producing results at stud. I think they've said they are restricting him to a book of 150 so they can cover the best mares to give him a better chance of reproducing better quality stock. The owners said to the reporters they 'could have sold him out in a day' but then again that could just be clever marketing to try and draw people in.

He was unfortunately used numerous times as a breeding Stallion. Very much wanted of course. Fans of this horse aren’t saying “Flightline the goat look how long he raced” 🤦‍♂️ his career was extremely brief probably the shortest of any champion I’ve ever seen but what he did in that brief career (which is no fault of the horse either) Flightline couldn’t do anymore. His value at stud could only possibly go down as his career went on. A freakish talent that yeah I wish we would get to see more but if this was your horse you’d be retiring him to stud 100%. What a freak of a horse

Horses are now raced to be bred. Not bred to be raced. Sad. Once a horse is "deemed" great, they are retired. So then we are left with "best of the average" horses to watch race. Lets think about it. What pays the trainers? The owners? The Jockeys? The fans do. The ones that pay to bet. The ones that pay to see the horses run. Yet... the good horses are taken away from the fans. The entire system is backwards. That's why the "fan base" is mainly bettors. Because we don't get to "know" horses. Or "know" rivalries. They don't get a chance to develop because, example great horses from 2018 very very seldom get to race horses from 2019 or 2020, etc. By the time a horse gets to be "known", it is retired. It stinks. I'd love to see Flightline vs Derby, Preakness or Belmont or Pegasus or the next year's Breeders Cup Classic winer. How about if Pharoah would have to race vs Justified? TC winner vs TC winner. The chance was there. It would have been the ONLY time EVER in history, as far as I know for there even to have been a chance. Well. I guess maybe Affirmed and Seattle Slew might have raced? But anyway...we don't get "Great" vs "Great" anymore. :(

@@question_it_701 Affirmed and Seattle Slew did meet, in the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup, 1 1/2 miles on the Belmont Park track. Neither won. The two Triple Crown winners engaged in an intense speed duel for roughly the first half of the race; the 6 furlong fraction was 2/5 of a second faster than Secretariat's Belmont. Affirmed either wore out, or (some say) his saddle slipped. In any case, the JCGC was the only out of the money finish of Affirmed's career. Seattle Slew then got engaged in an intense stretch duel by Exceller, a powerful deep closer and a Hall of Famer. Slew lost by a gallant head, in a gutsy performance many view as his best race. The race is one of the greatest I have seen. It is available on CZcams.
Some sad trivia: Exceller (33:15-5-6) who raced several years in Europe, is often cited as second only to Alydar as the best North American raced horse never to win a national championship. He met an especially tragic end. Unsuccessful at stud in Kentucky, Exceller was sent to stand in Sweden, where in 1997 he went to slaughter at age 22. His fate and the similar fate of 1986 Kentucky Derby winner/1987 champion older male and Horse of the Year Ferdinand (29:8-9-6), who went to slaughter in Japan in 2002, were justifiably viewed by the public as a shameful scandal, and prompted a major escalation of rescue efforts for off the track TBs which continues to this day.
Twice previously Triple Crown winners' track careers had overlapped chronologically, but they did not race each other.
Assault won the TC in 1946, and remained active until 1950, when he was age 7. Citation won the TC in 1948, and raced in 1950 at age 5. (He sat out his 4-yr-old year due to injury.) So theoretically, he and Assault could have raced. But Assault remained compromised after an injury in his 1947 match race with handicap star Armed.
1941 TC winner Whirlaway was still active when Count Fleet won the Triple Crown in 1943, but Whirlaway only raced twice that year and Count Fleet was retired after injury in the Belmont, so the chances of them meeting would have been pretty much nil.
There have been some pretty recent matchups of Hall of Fame-bound horses. Beholder and Songbird, a magnificent race.
Arrogate faced California Chrome, also a terrific matchup. He also faced Gun Runner, who will presumably make the Hall of Fame.

This story, that of a supernatural horse, demonstrates also why the sport is not about the fans, but about the owners.
Likely the best horse since Secretariat, and unlike Big Red never had an off race. Unfortunately for the racing public he only performed six times. Not sure if he needed extra time to recover from his races, but we were robbed of the chance to see him dazzle as a five year old.
I understand that compared to the risk of an injury and the possible lost breeding money the rewards of racing him for another year are miniscule. However, imagine how much anticipation there would be for every one of his races.

They risk so much more than a $2.00 to win bet. And how many turn out to be like Flightline? It was a horse of a lifetime to them. It seems that fans weren’t satisfied with his 6 for 6 wins . Why? Because they didn’t know of him until he won the PCC. I followed him from his second win. Seen him win his first race and it was the track announcers stretch call that brought me closer to him. And was never disappointed winning every race. Didn’t pay much , but I had to bet more to get more . And when his odds were 3-1 in early August for him to win the BCC. I put $2,000.00 for him to do what he was effortlessly doing. Never have I bet an early wager like that. Especially so much! And when he won the PCC. I knew that he would do what I gambled for him to do. All in all I made a little over $9,120.00 on him. And to be honest I’m so glad they retired him.
