    Hey Chase,
I really love to travel and going minimal is super fun.. Your backpack videos are informative yet hilarious to watch and your sense of humor and side comments - things we say to ourselves.. So funny. Somehow when I watch your videos make me smile. You seem super down to earth and really cool, yet you tell it how it is.. Your videos just make sense in such a fun way… 😀Thank you🌻

As a family man myself, tips for a bag/sling/pouch for handy access to family's travel papers (passports, reservation confirmations, etc.), especially while wearing the travel backpack so as to not take it off while going through boarding, security, passport control....TIA

I can’t believe I spent as much as I did especially after going from USD to Canadian Pesos but I’m excitedly awaiting my Forge Max (just black, the camouflage pattern is a bit much for me) and I thank you because I first saw it on your original review. It’s as close to the perfect bag for me I’ve ever seen (well by looking at the specs since I haven’t even seen mine ship yet). Well closest to perfect other than the weight and lack of small top item pocket but it’s trade offs that seem worth it too me for getting the ideal size daily carry and minimal travel all in one with a briefcase and duffle mode and the best looking strap hiding system I’ve seen while not in backpack mode. For daily I see always using it as a briefcase or duffle (80/20) but having a backpack mode when packed out filling all 30 litres is a must. Really hoping it lives up to my own self hyping especially given the $$$$...

Just got my Brown Buffalo, burly, tough, ever so sleek, backpack (great rec, thank you! Never heard of them before your video and of course I told them). For me, it's going to be my everyday NYC bag but I could easily use it for a short trip. I have no problem wearing it with chic or down and dirty clothes. They added two-zippered mesh organization pockets in the big pocket on the outside (so much better than bags I've used with pockets in the front compartment with no zippers as everything falls out and down). Nice organization inside. The bag can easily morph if you remove the organization panel. Yup, no water bottle pockets on the outside but easy to get to on the inside (usually I prefer outside pockets because I have yet to find a no-leak coffee thermos. But I'm in love. Waiting for Tom Bihn Synapse to arrive (gosh you can get carried away with all the accessories they offer. I did. Come visit me at the poor house).

As a backpack connoisseur I love your reviews and enthusiasm for these products!
I'm travelling overseas for 8 months and looking for a hybrid bag that can minimize my luggage. I use an Off Toco Camera backpack, I'll be bringing that as a dedicated camera bag.
My previous trip I brought a Northface medium duffle, Samsonite medium roller, Thule Clamshell Breifcase for the Xbox One, and a Northface Recon backpack.
I'm okay with the idea of packing minimal clothing (I'll probably be ordering a packing cube as I didn't have one before and I love PD stuff.)
So as much as I love my Off Toco for shooting and my gear I'll need a hybrid pack I can toss my clothes in between that and the roller I think I can axe the dufflebag.
What's something that small Mirrorless camera access that is minimal and clothing cube friendly?

I have to carry every day my laptop with some computer stuff (cables, adapters, etc.) and I every week or second week I am on a 2-3 days business trip. I always use only one backpack for every day office and for a short trip, in order not to re-pack all my office setup all the time.
I bought myself North Face Router 40L for this purpose. I am 6'3 tall, so this backpack looks OK on me.

Thanks Chase for a great breakdown. I've been researching hybrid bags for the past several months. Dont know if this video help me get closer to a decision. 😅 too many good bags. What do you think is best for high school students? I lead trips to developing countries and bring students with me. I want to give them a bag to travel with but hopefully use at school as well and it all has to fit under the seat of a plane. Knack, bellroy, and Eshena are top choices. Great content and great presentation! Looking for a daypack, I first came to your channel a few days ago. Since then, I managed to watch about 20 of your videos. I hope you don't mind if I feel free to suggest another topic: backpacks that are able to stand alone. On a daily basis with about 138 days of raining per year, I find it very annoying if i have to put my backpack on the ground and it falls down on the front into wet and dorty spots. Therefore I'm looking for a backpack with a flat bottom and the ability to stand alone. On product pictures, many bags seem to have this ability, but in real life and loaded with edc stuff, most of them tend to fall. So maybe there are some other people having this issue and the wish for a video regarding this? Best wishes

John Utah, unlike American Airlines, countries like SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand have weight limits for carry-on, and they do weigh bags at the airport. It could be anywhere between 7kg (10 pounds) to 10kg (22 pounds), depending on the airline. So you may want to look at lighter weight carry on bags for these countries - no more than 2 - 3.5 pounds empty, if you need to carry your essentials under the weight limit of your carrier.

  • @geraldmcmullon2465
    @geraldmcmullon2465 Před 4 lety

@11:13 Setout Divide: I didn't find the Tortuga method of pocket organisation particularly useful. The pockets have no dimension and using one of the three layers excludes using the others, unless the items are very flat. The bag is so useful to carry as a case, with the backstaps hidden away, but then the lack of fasteners on most of the little pockets means the stuff slides out.
I got the Setout Divide for it dual use as travel bag and daily carry. But found I wanted a deeper compartment for photographic gear (12cm deep) and so the Setout at 35l might have been better with their packable daypacks. The internal organisation is different with a shallow opening section and huge bucket base with zipper mesh opening at the top, not the centre.
The large front pocket is ideal for carrying a rain jacket or windcheater when the weather is variable.

+1 on the OPPOSETHIS Invisible Carryon. I own it and have traveled with it. It’s a gorgeous, understated, well-made bag that can fit under the seat in front of you on the plane. The shoulder straps are a little wider than most and they are very comfortable, even when the bag is fully loaded. Great bag.

I have their invisible roll top and i love it! I just went to London in December for 10 days with just that. Freedom!

Rocio Iribe I did 10 days to Stockholm and Amsterdam/Utrecht in December and everything fit in the Invisible Carryon. Totally agree about the freedom of one-bag travel.

I like the hybrid but it’s real tight if you need an extra pair shoes. Do you ever bring another pair of shoes. How do you squeeze em in with all your shiz

I agree! I just did 10 days in London in December. Wore my boots on the plane and i squeezed a pair of converse and thin flip flops at the bottom. Tight fit for sure.

Kathmandu gets so much right, I just dislike that they did not include a fals bottom.
And the main compartment, it looks so cluncky when it opens, like it will rip itself apart.
But a lot of good ideas, like the hidden hip-belts.

So one thing I'd love for you to talk about when you're talking travel bags is the TSA problem. Going through security how easy are they to tear down and put back up? Any tips you have for that! For example, I just traveled the first time with my Wandrd Prvke 21L and realized I could leave all my camera gear in the bottom and my laptop in the sleeve because fold open and BOOM! The only thing that hung me up? Didn't take the Kindle out.
When you've just got a small bag going through security this isn't really important but when this is literally all your shit, how that one bag goes through is definitely part of the calculus of whether or not I'm taking it. Which is why my Prvke just got promoted to regular travel duty. And why I think maybe I should have gotten the 30L. (Camera gear takes up a lot of space).

I'd suggest getting both TSA Pre and Clear. You walk up to the Clear lane, your fingerprints are your ID, they escort you to the front of the TSA Pre line and you put your stuff on the belt.
Nothing comes out. Boom you are through. Well worth the money, and if you're a Delta medallion member you get a discount on the service
