Amazing how soft that intake snorkel is! I have a 1984 XR500R RFVC engine and those have basically turned into plastic! 😀
Congratulations on a very nice bike!

Snorkel was definitely an aftermarket or replacement, like you said most that old are just hard and brittle, or people just throw them away and put the pyramids on the carbs. I sold it last year, think was my 5th one, have more fun getting them right anymore than riding I think. lol Made the mistake of getting a Hayabusa a few years back, nothing has been the same since. Only one close was another H2 I had the motor done by Paul Gast, had it 60 over bore, milled heads, 42mm carbs with a Purple Haze transmission. That thing would keep up with 80% of the new bikes on the road. Anyhow thanks for watching and dropping a comment.

Cool. Helping me with my son’s KX 60…. Having real trouble getting this slide to want to actuate. Cable is fine. I don’t see any galling on the slide…. But the spring isn’t pushing the slide down into the carb. Needle is seated properly. Something I’m not seeing. Is it a bad idea to attempt to use a thin film of lubricant on the slide? 🤔

If you have some emery cloth you can use it, you don't want to dig into the slide or a 0000 steel wool and a little Brake Cleaner or Carb Cleaner. Make sure you do the same on the inside of the carb, could just be some "gummed" up goo on the inside preventing it from free flowing. May not even be able to feel it with your fingers. Again don't "dig" into the metal but just clean it up good. I didn't mention the obvious but if you haven't really messed with carbs, the slide only goes in 1 way, if you have the side with the idle screw on the wrong side it will not drop all the way. Hope that helps.

I have a dirt bike carb I’m putting it on a different vehicle but the slide won’t even go into the carb I cleaned it and looked everywhere for damage there is not a single scratch or bump anywhere and I make sure I put the slide in correct the way but it just won’t go in and I don’t know what to do

Try to remove the needle jet and put the slide in without it. Possibly bent the needle jet or your main jet is not set properly. Found a good cutaway of a carb i.pinimg.com/originals/24/02/9c/24029cc4c773140b20d1d31b6800139e.gif maybe will help. If the carb was working when it was removed from the other bike, technically it should go back together. You said you checked to make sure not backwards, If I had to guess something stuck in the main jet, not set correct or bent needle. By removing the needle and just dropping the slide into the carb rules out damage to the slide or the carb if it slips in check your jets, if it doesn't just slide in, you have some damage or "goop" somewhere on the slide or in the carb. I would not recommend sanding them but if you have some Emory cloth clean them good with that.
