  • Cass Scenic Railroad: Parade of Steam 6-17-2023.
Father's Day weekend has become a tradition for many to visit the Cass Scenic Railroad since 2020. Back in 2020, (in the light of that year's troubles) Cass decided to hold an event (that you only were able to see during a Railroad Heritage Weekend) to showcase Cass was ready for anything. So that year they held their first Parade of Steam. As a result, around 1500 people showed up to see all of their operational steam locomotives, and they began running open air excursions a few weeks later.
Here's our video of that year's parade of you want to see it:

Fast forward to 2023, we make our way back to mountains of West Virginia to see the parade of steam again. Unlike 2020, there are now 4000 people that showed up, and there were many vendors compared to 2020 when there were no vendors. Just like the previous years they had the same five steam locomotives in the parade. Regardless of the massive crowd and the lack of any new locomotives, we had a fantastic time.
The locomotives in the parade (and their whistles) consisted of:
Shay #2 (MD Whistles Reading 6 chime)
    Shay #4 (Lunkenheimer 3 chime)
    Shay #5 (Homemade 3 chime)
    Shay #11 (Powell 3 chime)
    Climax #9 ("Mann's Creek" Crosby 3 chime)
*Shay 11 officially turns 100 years old this year.
Enjoy the sights and sounds from the fourth Cass Scenic Railroad Parade of Steam!
Here are some of the people I met during the parade (if I forgot anyone I apologize ahead of time):

Both Shay 4 and Shay 5 sounded a lot like 4501!

Man, climax #9 really sounds like Tweetsie Railroad #190 before her whistle was modified.
