We would like to see a video on LOG vs RAW.
but it's two completely different things. RAW does not have attached color space neither gamma. You need to choose how to interpret RAG and You can choose LOG gamma and colorspace or REC709 or even REC2020.
@@MarcinRutkowski yeah that's the point though
Raw is not a video file. Itâs a data file before debayer and it has metadata about the data.
Light in physics works linearly. But human eyes perceive light in a logarithmic curve.
Who is we? :)
But logarithmic curve is the way to shoot data. RAW have their own LOG like ARRIRAW or REDCODE. Like somebody have wrote before RAW wasn't decoded. It's mean we can change ISO, white balance or contrast and ect. with no destruction)
We can shoot in S-Log and C-Log at MP4 and MOV containers in cameras. But Sony and Canon have their RAW codecs to shoot the same way but in RAW)
You're quickly becoming my go to channel for video editing. THANK YOU. Keep it coming!
I always learned something REAL from your channel, Qazi. Thank you for this!
awesome man, a dynamic range video will be super dope. Thanks for the great content.
Salaam qazi bhai. I'm glad your doing these videos from the absolute basic. This is what I wanted to see. Easier to understand too
Great explanation, thanks Qazi. I think a future dynamic range video would be very useful too, hopefully you'll add that one to you list. Thanks again!!
Awesome video! Please make a video about dynamic range!
First video of yours that i understand 100 %
What is LOG? Baby don't hurt me. Don't hurt me...no more (sorry, I had to do it)
đ
awesome like always â„ïžâ„ïžâ„ïž
Sounds like the song.. "What is love"!! baby donÂŽt hurt me.. no more..... You Rock Qazy!!!!
Good rant :) Great content mate!
Amazing Contentsđ & Plz make a video about stops of dynamic range!đ
Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge,
Definately it will be great if if you can do a video on dynamic range,
Also waiting to see your workflow for the Braw log profile,,
I found this page after looking for Davinci Tutorials. I believe your explanation is the greatest. Subscribed and liked.
Please do a video on dynamic range... And this video was way informative. Thanks for the knowledge bro...â€
I have been going through your course and this was still really useful. Thank you.
You're welcome. #fcmfam
thanks for your valuable information,,and ilke to see a video on Dynamic range ,,thank you again
Love these videos. Can you do a video on grading videos from a Blackmagic pocket camera? Interested to see your workflow for those
Yes please, a video on dynamic range will be great.
Thanks for addressing BM's failings. This is the first place I recommend people wanting to learn about colouring. I am finding there's a lot of people really keen on the colour editing when they're getting started with software and to have someone who can make things seem simple enough to understand is really helping the next gen for colourists!
Appreciate the love
thankyou brother !
Thank you!
Mee too. Keen to know more about dynamic range
thank you so much
Dope tips
Yeaa we need video about Dynamic range
Would love to see a video on how you'd colorgrade Fujifilm XT3/XT4 10bit 4K F-Log footage. You've mentioned this camera once in an older video and you were also pretty impressed about its unique look. I think it's such an underrated camera with a lot of potentials and still worth buying in 2021/2022.
Anyways - grate video mate! Happy holidays đžđž
Would love to see a dynamic range video. Also would love to see you color grade Fujifilm F-Log
Amazing video, to a computer scientist for me this is priceless to get kick-started into working with one of the most complex entities in video production, which is color grading. What I wanted to know is your opinion on whether it is better to use hybrid log gamma against logarithmic footage? Why and why not? Thank you in advance and keep up the great work with the channel :)
my color guru
Haha - 2:09 - "they really need to stop". Amen brother. BM has a way of complicating things when not needed. Great video Qazi!!
Haha. You get it. đ
I keep seeing these comments and im not sure I get it. Ive ben shooting for a loooong time, everything from canon, to Sony a7 lines, to BM and on and on. I dont find anything about BM process that is confusing. in fact their menu selection trees are the most simple ive ever seen (especially comparing to Sony). Just shoot BRAW using the latest color gen science. theres nothing complicated about that. Maybe theres some other process that complicates things but I havent seen it. in fact sometimes I feel like my choices are very limited on BM cameras
Mannn you channel is THEE spot for video!
Question - Shooting on iphone, using an app to shoot in log. what to do with CST?
Thanks bro. About to do a video on that soon. Stay tuned.
yeeaaahh do the dynaimc range video ! being a cinematographer yourself i think that you also should do a video about how to lit some thinking about the grading itself ( luma, sat, hue ) is it better to shoot as close as you want the final product be? also i been having trouble with noise in cameras like RED or Blackmagic pocket or Sony fx9/fx6 even when i intend to do some low key exposure and leave some black spots in the shot, and if a low it to much it makes WAY too much contrast for the client but when i finally get to the sweet spot where i park my blacks it gets some noise, i know that all of this would be better if i take your course, unfortunally i cant afford it but some day i will
Please do a video on export settings in Davinci for CZcams and Instagram reels
I don't see someone better than you hear on CZcams teaching about colour grading really appreciate your work man and thank you for teaching right way âšđđ»đ
i know he's a mad man. Like, honestly makes me want to buy his courses once I think I'm sufficiently good enough
Appreciate the love, brother.
Cullen Kelly too.
I agree ! Nobody better than you for DaVinci on CZcams !
Yes I need to know more about HDR
according to the difference we can see from the two wavefoms, apparently the CST version is providing more information, or we could say it has larger room. so i suppose there may be a little different in the color space from the Lut, probably just a little bit narrower? or maybe the contrast is a little bit stronger inside the Luts that davinci is providing
Definitely interested in the dynamic range video, and specifically how it affects working with the footage in post. I understand the concept of dynamic range, but what does more or less dynamic range look like when youâre working with LOG footage? Are there examples of where less dynamic range causes issues when correcting and grading? If so, what kinds of situations cause that? Especially when delivering in Rec709. Thanks!
i think the image won't look like when u deliver in log profile
I'm a Sony A7SIII Lover. can you explain what is dinamic range and what is log 3
How to grade film grade
Great video! I II'm always confused on colour s[ace transform, where to put it and the most importantly how to get my footage to export looking like it did in the timeline! haha, so confusing
Hi! Very helpfull jobđ„đ„đ„ is it possible to make a video about LUTs ? There is very confuse for me to know how can i use LUT and at what moment. And the difference between LUT for Look and LUT for correction , what is usually the stuf with LUT? The pro colorworkers use 2 LUT on differents moment? Thanx!!!
would love to watch a video on dynamic range...plz
Yeah please upload video about dynamic range
I am wondering if you have a video like this but for Premier Pro.
What is fstop and dynamic range, how to use these to two get perfect shoot. Please make a tutorial on it.
Please do a tutorial on how to color grade lg cine log for the lg v30 smartphone, it's really a great phone for filmmaking...
hey qazi what about fujifilm F-log can you please explain something about that as well and of course I want to know about stops and Dynamic range.
It'd be great if you can please explain what's the difference between Log and Raw (like ProRes RAW / Blackmagic RAW)?
love your stuff and been a long time viewer. im not sure I understand why BM would be confusing. shoot BRAW with latest gen color science. Thats pretty much it. They've simply left the older versions if people want to use them.
i just bought sony a7iii and i dont understand how to shoot with the Dynamic range . You can cover the dynamic range topic
Agreeing with a couple other commenters below. The past year I have completely switched to shooting in BRAW and would love to see you do a video going into more depth about the issues with BMâs color science when it comes to conversion. I watch so much of your stuff but Iâd LOVE to get your full break down on BRAW because many of your vids are from Alexa LOG. I try to apply a lot of the methods you teach from AFTER conversion but as far as pre-conversion I am taking my best guess. Love ya Qaz man!
Hey Adam! I am definitely not a colorist, but I own the BM 6K and whenever I grade it (because I just find it frustrating to scroll through all of the BM color spaces) I just always use Arri Alexa for Color Space and for gamma I always chose Arri LogC - this gets me to a greeat starting point (idk, thats definitely not the right way, but it works great!)
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals i donât even use LUTâs anymore with my BMPCC4K and just grade from scratch. Though I agree the Arri conversion is pretty good and probably better than the BMâs conversions I tried... sometimes if I feel lost in grading from scratch Iâll put on one of the BM or Arri LUTs to see what they think ânormalâ is.
@@SebastianFriedrichVisuals just use the latest gen.
Make a video on dynamic range
Hey dear quazi, it was a bit confusing for me like beginners with the cameras u speak regularly like DJI, Alexa, etc. Can u plz make a video on that first.
Please make video. On dynamic range
If I need to work on the vfx for the plate, what the color management process should be? Thanks!
Can you maybe make a video if you don't have the best equipment?
For example GoPro footage?
Yes I need to know what is dynamic range...
new to all this and just use my iphone, which i think is 8 bit unless using the hdr, i love watching your vids have learnt a lot from them, could you do some vids on filming/grading using phones. thanks
newer iPhones can shoot 10 bit. also can shoot dolby (which is like their proprietary HDR color science). if you shoot in dolby you can edit it and save it to Vimeo, they are now hosting dolby footage, and if the viewer has a standard rec 709 screen it will automatically down convert
@waqasqazi I have doubt on this if we use different log ( not a native log ) like If I use sony camera and shoot video on cine 4 or hlg2 so that time how to convert in to rec709 using CST??
Hey Quazi, I got a Sony zv1. I new to making videos and color grading. Should I learn with hlg3 or slog 2 and why?
You showed us two methods of converting LOG to Rec.709, but I can also just enable ACES? Would that be the same thing?
Your videos are really helpful. I do find the wall to wall music playing under everything to be very distracting.
Please make The French dispatch look breakdown. It's so beautiful
Yes I want to see what is dynamic range
Pls sir make video on dynamic rangeâ„ïž
Iâm saving for next year buy ur class
Let's go!
I want to know about of dynamicrange thanks.
I heared that shooting in log might be not a good idea, if you only have a 8 bit camera. Is it better to use a less flat profile, such as cine 4 from sony in that case?
Hi again. Is it possible for you to explain the difference between Slog3 to Scinetone. I'm wondering what is Scinetone dynamic range in f stops. I can't find the info in Sony website. Also I'm having difficulty to nail the right exposure when shooting in Scinetone, any tips? Thanks for you amazing tutorials, after seeing you I understood how much other "pro" CZcamsrs actually don't really understand grading in depth. So millions thanks!đâ€ïž
â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Hey can you put the seminar online somewhere. My boss is a slave driver and I can't make the livestream.
we need a video on DYNAMIC RANGE
Perfect rant on Blackmagic LUTS. I tried them, gave up and just grade from scratch.. pick 2 or 3 shots in a project grade all three together, make a custom LUT for that project then apply that to the entire project then tweak it. Perhaps not the smartest or effective way.. but learning fast on my own. Maybe it comes from photography side where you have a Tri-X film and graded or multi grade paper and filters, and your pick filters or papers depending upon the negative and then with testing figure out which grade of paper, exposure etc or earlier in college multi graded paper so you can just change a filter in the enlarger.. then expose paper, move from tray to tray, then wash, then dry, then take out in the lit room (20-40 minutes from start to finish to get a test strip with various exposures to then start dialing in the image before you figure out where to dodge and burn.. so video grading by comparison, is FAST and easy.. hahaha. Yeah I know.. itâs not, but itâs fast vs old film/paper enlargers in Black and White or even more so color reversal film or positive (slide) to paper. (Illfachrom/Kodachrome etc) My limited experience with trying any LUT especially the dozen of BM LUTS to rec 709 was that it clipped more than I would clip and I had to put as much effort fixing the generic LUT as I would be just grading from scratch. For me it seems easier and more logical. Does anyone else grade that way? Is it just because I have older style of skills or is there an advantage? I totally get the idea of having the generic REC 709 conversion on each clip however.. even if I donât use it.. just to see what BM or other company says is âNormalâ Sometimes I have it on to preview footage then turn them off and grade how I see the world.
Yes dynamic range video would be good. I figure camera manufactures lie about dynamic range anyway, much like stereo companies do about wattage.. (20 watt RMS continues 8 ohms vs 2,000 watts peak 4 ohms etc. about the same thing by the way...in fact.. the 20 watts RMS 8 ohms is probably more). But yes.. 12 stops of dynamic range off the sensor... maybe.. at exact ISO (less important with RAW or BRAW but VERY important if shooting Prores 10 bit). And exposing to how the camera prefers to be exposed for, (above and or below middle grey for different ISOâs for different LOGS for different cameras... and shooting correct exposure like you would with Film or Alexa or to the right for Blackmagic, Sony, Canon etc to clean up the noise in the shadows and mid tones and grade down a couple stops in post). - thatâs when 8 bit really started to fall apart for me... though shooting correctly 8 bit log, you have NO wiggle room for mid tones and shadows.. nothing threre.. could only bring down highlights.. ok enough rambling... but yes, would like to hear your thoughts and comments on my ramble at some point.
Do one video about ACES 1.3 vs Davinci gamut and why pick one over the other. thanks
Will do
bro i watched the free training till the end but i did not get the link for the downloads...
Grazie!
Hi bro how to dowland your assets video?
â„ïžâ„ïžâ„ïžâ„ïž
i have a red one mx and a bmpcc4k
I did the 1h course and I followed it until the end but I didn't received the free materials Qazi. How can I get it?
Could you make a whole video on HLG footage for us broke bois?!
what about using HLG ?
Is it the same approach?
I love slog
When you say that Blackmagic Design has too many log profiles do you mean BM RAW versions? I believe hey are on version 5. When they are brining out new versions they are making them better. Am I missing something? Loving the content.
I would love for him to go more in depth on his problems with black magic color science as well.
i want to see dynamic range
What is dynamic range?
Yes.. Please. your most Video's about red cam footage color grading, but we have basic cameras like sony.. So please make more videos about how to color grade SLog, we are waiting for that Video's.
Watch the free training then
Whatâs best for bmpcc6k
If we are shooting a night scene or a moody scene, should we still shoot in LOG? How do we do that without getting noise?
If you have a choice all the shoot in log.
What is rec709
Are we still able to achieve that awesome final look without having the equipments ?
Sure you can. Skills over equipment and confidence over doubt. đȘđŸ
Dynamic range
DO THE DYNAMIC THING! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can someone enlighten me about this so-called hack log profile?
How to grade 8 bit footage especially the slog
Watch the free training
Love this man as a blackmagic shooter it pains me to say you're right about the different color spaces and sometimes when doing a CST transform depending on what you pick it completely changes the image but I will say once you get a hold of it the image looks fantastic. Thanks for the video i'd love to see one where you talk about shot matching and different ways to go about matching shots for a commercial or music video. Thanks!
Watch the free training for the shot matching.
Who is you Mentor? Qazi
My sony a6600 has only 8bit so log is maybe not the best way. What about HLG BT2020 ? What is your professional opinion about that?
