- My first time in the Azores! This beautiful archipelago has been on my bucket list for many years now and I am so happy to be able to check it off! I absolutely will return but maybe to Lajes...

Ponta Delgada is the busiest airport within the Azores; and is the gateway on to São Miguel island. The airport has direct service to North America and mainland Europe. The busiest route is Lisbon. In 2018, the airport saw 1.8 million passengers making it the 5th busiest airport in Portugal.
The airport is also the main hub for SATA Air Açores; the regional carrier that serves to connect all the Azores islands. The airport is also the main hub for Azores airlines; the longer range airline that connects the archipelago with the rest of Europe and North America.

The power of the B777 GE (I think) engines. Probably needed on 5,500 to 6,000ft of runway by the looks of it. PDL runway in only about 7,700 ft in length. I didn't even see the piano when rotating!

How is oceanic clearence given from here? At my local which is Shannon. An aircraft routing through oceanic aerospace must have clearence prior to take off.

Açores aren't the islands. Açores is the archipelago. Each island has a different name, as you should know.
PDL is the busiest airport in the Azores, just like he says. I fail to see your problem.
