Great video. Straight to the point and what viewers need to see to get the job done. Headed off now to fix a metal door that I’ve been putting off for years.

Wow! I didn’t think you would answer! Thank you! What I need to know is when do you spray it with Rustleum Rust Stop primer or something? After the bondo job is done and sanded nice, like just before you paint it? Should you spray the primer over both the bare metal parts as well as your parts where you put bondo?

Yes I would spray the primer over all of it as soon as possible then wait for it to dry and go over with the house paint the next day or later after it had fully dried. Some of the rust stop products have to be brushed on and should be put on before the primer. Use them only on the metal. Using it only on rusted parts. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for those products.

Great video! Thank you for the help! Do you have any recommendations if the metal panel has a wood grain pattern?

Sorry, but I not encountered that issue and don’t have anything to offer for that. Thanks for watching and good luck with it.

Thank you for the awesome video. What grit did you use for the final sand after the Bondo hardened, may I ask?

I think it was 80 grit first and then 220 after that.

What did you use to cover the area that you sanded down to the metal but didn’t get any condo on it? Won’t it eventually rust through the acrylic paint coat?

I think rust bleeding through is a valid concern. The one in the video didn’t have any existing rust and I immediately painted it and it didn’t have any issues. I did another one for my son, and didn’t have time to paint it. I told him to paint it before it rusted, and he didn’t. It was also in worst shape and had some rusted metal that I cut off. The rust did bleed through on his and I will end up redoing it. When I do, I will plan on using one of the rust stop products at Home Depot or Lowe’s.
