This video was how I discovered Angelina. I thought how cute: some kid's first song singing about playing the piano and painting pictures. Then I thought, boy what a beautiful voice. By the end I thought that was actually pretty profound. The melody became an ear worm for a day or two. I kept humming it to myself. So I looked up Angelina to see if she had any other songs on youtube and I would up binge watching for hours. Talk about falling down a rabbit hole. That was a year and a half ago. Not a day goes by where I don't listen to her. I have traveled to see both her concerts in the US. I've learned her whole backstory and watched just about everything she has put out online. She has changed my life for the better, but her music can be very addictive. ❤
This was far from my introduction to her, but like you, at the beginning I was like, "OK, I see where this is going…" And then the "stealthy" line caught me a bit off guard. Same with a few others. But then when she finished the line "Maybe life is a warm embrace…" with the words "from someone safe", well, that just floored me. I mean, come on… That's gotta be one of the best lyrics of 2018. If you had asked me how to finish that line, I could have worked on it for months and never come up with anything anywhere near as perfect as that.

I am always struck by how profound Angelina's lyrics are in this song (and others too), But even this pales in comparison with the book she wrote at 9 yrs old, with much of that taken verbatim from her journals at 6 years old. Although she is singing it at the age of 12, she wrote it when she was eleven and recorded it at that age for her CD "It's Magic". Simple words by an 11-year-old child describing the things that are important to her at that age, but when one listens carefully, one realises that those words are of great emotional depth and describe things to which all of us can relate. For me, that a child can so clearly tell us in simple words what is important to her is remarkable, and then when one listens closely realises that those simple words describe an intellectual and emotional depth which is certainly unusual in one so young.
When I first listened to this song, the first few lines, I thought, this sounds like a 10-12 year old wrote it. By the time the song ended I was in dis-belief that someone this age could think with this depth. Old soul she has. The following 2 lines are what did me in: "we come, we see, we go" = born-live-die: the good and bad--just to acknowledge this in life. "Shield" and "7th Heaven" are along these lines and her EP esp. the first song, (singing to love) and the last 2 songs which are spectacular. Her writing often includes the listener and she also writes leaving at least some of the lyrics up to the interpretation of the listener. On Guitar: Ivan Mendez, was her guitarist in LA, since she was 11 years old and he came to AJ through a friend who did not want to accept the job of accompanying a girl's rehearsals, there are many videos playing together, he was there for a couple years with her and then he left music to dedicate himself to his profession Master of Business. AJ's other guitarist in Norway is Egil Clausen, who has accompanied her since she was a child and is a family friend, who recently reappeared. On Piano: Dylan Meek, just like AJ, is a child prodigal of music, with a university degree in Jazz, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer, nominated for a Grammy, he comes to AJ from the hand of Ivan Mendez, start with this song and then Dylan continues to accompany her for a while longer and appears in several videos. I always assumed it was given to her by her family, but someone commented, it was from the Norway Military Band with whom she recorded her 1st album, It's Magic. When she was 15, she upgraded to a 103 for her private use. Republic Records has built her a recording studio & filled it with professional equipment.
You have to remember she’s an artist, using images to express herself. For instance, “going to school” means (to me) never stop learning and references to sister and grandma mean (again to me) how important family is to one’s life.

Angelina is the type of individual that knew, instinctively, at a very young age, what she wanted to do with her life. She then endeavored to immerse herself in everything having to do with fulfilling her musical ambitions. I greatly admire Angelina’s laser focused self discipline and dedication to honing her skills. It goes without saying that it required a tremendous amount of personal sacrifices to accomplish her musical goals. Discovering Angelina was a positive life changing experience for me. IMO, Angelina was divinely endowed with highly advanced musical intellect, intuition, instincts, and feel. She is the most unique and incomparable young female artist I have ever heard. She literally is a stand-alone artist in a sea of talented young female vocalists. It’s a foregone conclusion that Angelina has already accomplished her childhood dream of becoming a super star.

Hi Gina. Wanted to acknowledge one (of many) things I find so satisfying in your reactions. When you speak of being gobsmacked every time in the moment when the... I'll say 'expansive'... quality of her art and her person strikes home in almost every song. And of course particularly when it is an original, and everything is essentially hers. We all feel that moment and it does not fade with repetition. The best description I have in my own mind is that she insists we focus (as we too seldom do) on the question "What does it mean to be human?" Angelina always has an answer at hand. Gina, did you notice the Neuman TLM 102 mic she got for her 12th Birthday. I always assumed it was given to her by her family, but someone commented, it was from the Norway Military Band with whom she recorded her 1st album, It's Magic. When she was 15, she upgraded to a 103 for her private use. Republic Records has built her a recording studio & filled it with professional equipment.

You have to remember she’s an artist, using images to express herself. For instance, “going to school” means (to me) never stop learning and references to sister and grandma mean (again to me) how important family is to one’s life.

Angelina is the type of individual that knew, instinctively, at a very young age, what she wanted to do with her life. She then endeavored to immerse herself in everything having to do with fulfilling her musical ambitions. I greatly admire Angelina’s laser focused self discipline and dedication to honing her skills. It goes without saying that it required a tremendous amount of personal sacrifices to accomplish her musical goals.
Discovering Angelina was a positive life changing experience for me.
IMO, Angelina was divinely endowed with highly advanced musical intellect, intuition, instincts, and feel. She is the most unique and incomparable young female artist I have ever heard. She literally is a stand-alone artist in a sea of talented young female vocalists. It’s a foregone conclusion that Angelina has already accomplished her childhood dream of becoming a super star.

Angelina wrote new lyrics for two famous songs by Amy Winehouse, "Back to Black" and "Rehab" since it was inappropriate for a preteen to sing the original lyrics. For "Back to Black" Angelina wrote the new lyrics in the 24 hours prior to the recording, then needed just two takes.

Angelina has been writing songs since she was 10 years 0ld - So far 12 have been released: Oslo, What is Life?, Shield, Million Miles, 7th Heaven, Love Don't Let Me Go, Now I'm The Fool, Fire and Rain, All My Fault, Good in Goodbyes, Diamond, and Our Time. Angelina has stated that she has written about 100 songs that have yet to be released. Her songs are taken from her Journal writings. When she was 10/11 she rewrote the Lyrics to Amy Winehouse's Back to Black and Rehab to make them more age appropriate at that time. In addition, Angelina performed an unreleased original song Princess of Ruins at her Las Vegas concerts - if and when that is officially released it will be her 13th original.

Hi Gina. Wanted to acknowledge one (of many) things I find so satisfying in your reactions. When you speak of being gobsmacked every time in the moment when the... I'll say 'expansive'... quality of her art and her person strikes home in almost every song. And of course particularly when it is an original, and everything is essentially hers. We all feel that moment and it does not fade with repetition. The best description I have in my own mind is that she insists we focus (as we too seldom do) on the question "What does it mean to be human?" Angelina always has an answer at hand. As she grows, her grasp of the question will broaden and her answers become even more inclusive. Makes me wish I were not as old as i am. Many thanks for your openness to the experience. Jim P

The incident Angelina sings about happened when she was 6 years old. Angelina then met an orphan girl who wanted to be called Princess, but she had no castle. Hence, Angelina gave the song the title Princess of Ruins.
