      As much as you're digging this, you really should do the catalog, in order, from inception to now. It'll be good for you to experience their evolution, the TOOL Army will love you for it as it'll allow them to tell you the band's story.

      Personally I don't enjoy their first two albums as much as the later ones but yes it does show their evolution as a band to go in order. Vicarious is a fantastic song with a message about human nature that certainly doesn't pull any punches. I freaking love this song. I'm 61 and definitely a long time fan, even of a couple of their early tunes ha!

  • @monkeycutter
    @monkeycutter Před 8 měsíci +114

    I would recommend reacting to just the music with lyrics as opposed to any of their official music videos. Each of their official music videos has a life of its own and can be distracting if you're diving into their sound. However, they're still really cool productions. Parabol/Parabola are worth your attention. Their catalogue is unreal and not album/song sounds the same. Every song takes you on a journey. They are so smart and technically sound.

    • @RallyBud
      @RallyBud Před 8 měsíci +7

      Echoing everything @monkeycutter wrote (lyric videos EXCEPT Parabol/Parabola...watch official video and read the amazing lyrics before). I'll add that you will freaking die watching the drum cam view of Danny Carey during a live Tool performance of the song "Pneuma" (simply astonishing). The studio version is equally mind bending. Hell, it's one of the greatest songs I've ever heard (and I'm 54).

      And using decent Headphones as well as Lyrics Only videos (like Parabol/Parabola as 1 seamless track, no pause) is a good idea ... with Headphones You dive even deeper into the sound and get almosted emersed/surrounded by it, as if the sound becomes 3D, get to pick up on all kinds of little subtleties and the sound engineering work as well ...

    The lyrics make me emotional because he talks about how our nature is to be morbidly drawn to death and violence and tragedy just so long as it isn't happening to us personally. Be proud. You are getting into Tool at a young age. Some people need to mature to a much older age in order feel their music. I’ve told other reactors that Tool has a way of coming to you when you need their message. Whether the message is delivered through the instrumentation or the lyrics, we each get out of their music what we need at that time. I’d suggest Sober before 46 and Two.

    Do 7empest if you're liking the guitar. Any song by Tool will blow your mind, you have to do the whole discography. F.Y.I. They have 5 studio albums and an EP called Opiate from 1992. Their first studio album Undertow was released in 1992, then Ænema released in 1996, then Lateralus released in 2001, then 10,000 Days in 2006, and finally after a 13 year hiatus came Fear Inoculum in 2019. They also have a live recorded album called Salival you need to check out too. You won't be disappointed with any of it. Just be ready to see music in a new light. When ever you do Lateralus's title track, watch a video explaining how they used the Fibonacci sequence to create it.

    I think Tool can take you to different places, places where you haven't been before. It's like an emotional purge. I'm 65, so I feel Tool very deeply. It's really healing music because it wakes you up to your inner self. Namaste.

    Electric guitars with distortion is like the chaotic noise of the atomic universe, amplified and sent straight into your headphones.

    That man behind the drums is a master of polyrhythm named Danny Carey! At 6’8” he’s known as the human octopus and can play 4 different rhythms at the same time! He’s on another level along with all of his band mates!

    Crying is, for the most part, and emotional release. People tear up in all kinds of specific situations, highly variable, person dependent. You tear up at the best music ever made ..... could be worse ;)

    Just start front to back bud. You can't go wrong. You'll love it. If you're an anything like me, it will be tears, laughs, wonder, awe... they have a singular talent to evoke emotion.

    Yes they are a particularly gifted band. Every member is a master of their craft, their drummer Danny Carey has a phd in percussion, Maynard is a geneous writer, Jones is a awesome guitarist and he also had alot to do with the visual art and album art.. this band is a rabbit hole, while your at it look into their 2nd and 3rd bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer

    When I was 13 Tool lateralus was the first album I had ever bought on cd… changed my life forever and I still can’t get enough. The Grudge is the first song on the album.. definitely give it a listen.

    Alright bro, you got another sub. I'm hooked on watching people discover Tool - They've been my favorite band since the 90s. Keep 'em coming, and we'll hang with ya. I suggest The Grudge, Pneuma (drum cam video), and H.

    I once had "10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)" stuck in my head for a solid 3 1/2 weeks. That song requires a bit of backstory it's about his mother who spent 27 years paralyzed after a stroke and the way she was treated by members of her church who said it was God's judgment of her.

    This album was released in 2006 if im not mistaken. They are indeed a 90's band but this video is more modern as you are thinking.

    I discovered Tool when i was in middle school (2001) and their music carried me through my deployment in Iraq in 2010. And after all these years Tool is still one of the greatest bands I have ever listened to.
    Edit: Check out The Noose by A Perfect Circle. Same lead singer.

    Hey man I just saw your reaction to the Pot yesterday. That song is very make-it-or-break when it comes to seeing who falls down the rabbit hole. Your reactions made me hope you’d fall in.
    There are no favorites, but here are some euphoric listens:
    The Grudge
    Parabol /Parobola
    Lateralus
    Decending
    Pneuma
    If you want a pure listening experience with no lyrics pulled up, be warned that you will NOT be able to hear all of them the first time through. If you want to follow the lyrics, you might get more from it. Maynard James Keenan’s writing adds a mind blowing depth to the music. Spiral out 🌀

    LATERALUS is one of their top songs, the message and music are epic. Vocalist Maynard James Keenan is a genius poet. As you continue you may notice how Maynard and Adam Jones guitarist play off of each other, its one of my favorite things to hear and really evident in the song JAMBI. Enjoy the journey and SPIRAL OUT
