Wow. The cradle can be the great equalizer and might be the most popular upset move of all time. Ruiz should’ve stuck em but he mule kicked out just in time. We’re continuing to see these world champ freestyle guys having to adjust early in the season. And yeah, there’s a big adjustment to it. 🙏🏼

If you’re good at a cradle then you really can pull any match out of your ass, but a lot of kids will get good at it and then overextend themselves to get it when they shouldn’t. A truly masterful wrestler is one who knows how to cradle very well but doesn’t use it unless it’s an optimal situation

@@zacharyschram9855 Beautifully said my brother. 👏🏼 Early on in my HS days, in 9th & 10th, I’d place at state but didn’t feel I could get over the hump on these top guys. I privately told my coach this and he recommend “I become a problem to everyone on top”. As you could imagine, I wasn’t too excited about that. I loved wrestling on my feet.
2 state titles later and I was far from the strongest, fastest, or even the most technical. I made the decision to be in the best shape out of everyone and focused on my top game for the entire summer between Soph and Jr. year. Back in the late late 90s-early 2000s, no one was tilting and riding very hard. This is South Carolina we’re talking about. Not the best breeding ground. 🤣
But I just perfected my tilts and wore everyone down with a blanket ride (crossface/ far ankle ride). I slip a leg in or threaten the tilt and literally 70% of guys would make the mistake of stepping up with that far leg. And I’m draped over just waiting like a kid in a candy shop. I’d lock up an outside cradle so quick, get hip to hip, and they wouldn’t know what happened until they were looking up at the lights. It wasn’t fancy. It wasn’t cool. But that bitch was effective. To all HS kids out there, focus and dominate on top and you’ll gap everyone that isn’t. 🙏🏼

This kid(Messenbrink) in one of the worst matches I've seen him Wrestled, STILL battled and won.
He is a legit NC Contender and you KNOW he wants to knock off fellow Arrowhead alum Keegan O'Toole...and I think he'll do it.
He blends old school Iowa with new school PSU so perfectly.
He'll shoot 40 times, he doesn't give you a chance to catch your breathe(Iowa)...but he's creative and he's drilled every position SOOO many times and(PSU+Askren like fanaticism).
PSU may well have a 3X at 133, 2X at 141, 3X at 157, 4X at 165, 5X at 174, Champ at '84 with Truax this year, 4X at 184 and if Kerk is engaged at all, a 2X at HWT with a returning 3rd at 49, and while '25 has been the curse, they have studs in the room and bigger studs like Lillendahl, Basset(I assume they follow their cousins to PSU) AND about 6 or 7 world medalists coming in next year, plus the #1, 5 and #25 guys in the '25 class. NO program has ever attracted tbis type of talent, but when you see the NLWC sending so many to the WCs and Olympics...
    It makes sense.
Now where the hell does Gibson, Facundo, Barr, Sealey, the Wisconsin twins and EVERYONE else fit in the next couple years?
    But my prediction this year
    125-4th(Davis)
    '33-NC(Nagao)
    '41-2nd(Bartlett falls to Woods).
    '49-top 4...wide open and took 3rd as a frosh
    '57-Champ
    '65-Champs
    '74-Champ
    '84-2nd
    '97-2nd(Trumble pulls off the upset)
    HWT-2nd Gable is back...right?
All time team record for points adjusted for era beating the '82 and '97 Hawks(IIRC) by 15+ points.
And they'll be better in 2-3 years!
    Fuuuck we need more parity...

Has your prediction changed at all as of current events? Cause I don’t agree with a solid portion of your list. (But I also jinx the people I go for 😅)

      @@xzjayz7925 Yeah.
      '25-Davis is a top 4 still
'33-Wide open, but I think he's top ~3. I thought Vito would take the Oly, he's not.
      '41-Runner up
'49-Van Ness is injured, so Kasak, IF they take off his RS, I think he's rd of 12 by then. If not, Evans is a 2-2 type Wrestler.
      '57-Haines NC
'65-Messenbrink....obviously the odds are stacked against him, but I think he can do it. PSU guys improve so much as the year goes by.
      '74-Starocci is lighting everyone up.
      '84-Truax-Top 4.
'97-The upset was silly and Trumble is taking an Oly.
      HWT-Kerk...all day. Gable's not back.
Penn St doesn't break the team mark...but shit, you have to factor in how they OVER-perform at the tourney. But I'd say '41,'57, '74, '97, HWT, they should all be favorites.
'65...it'd be an upset, but all great careers start with upsets.
'25 is SO wide open, Davis could win it, but WTF knows. Fix may still drop despite what he says.
I think they have 10 guys capable of Wrestling in the Semis. Either the Semi's or coming back and being in the consolation semi's and Kasak is not far off from where Haines was last year. Though...Kasak may still end up in RS as PSU doesn't really need him.
And yes, I still think PSU will be BETTER in 2-3 years...as insane as that should sound.
