The Methodist church was birthed as an awakening movement to call nominal Christians into the full breadth of life as a child of God. This meant moving beyond justification, or forgiveness by sins, and into an ever-deepening relationship with God in which we are conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. This is called sanctification, or being made holy.
