Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another reaction to ABBA with "I Have A Dream." After reacting to the spanish version of "Estoy Sonando." Frida's voice was remarkable, this time with the english version we get it all. See my reaction now!

This song was immensely huge in many European countries back then in 1979. A big hit here in Germany as well. Frida's voice is incredibly beautiful and warm - timeless!
At the ABBA concert I went to, a local kids choir came out in the middle of the song and sang the chorus. Also Dancing Queen was the last song and I was jumping up and down and Agnetha laughed at me.

Dereck!!! So glad you felt the positivity in this song and made the connection to its uplifting message in a terrible global time like this. It should be an anthem for the world right now. Frida: she just sings, doesn't she? No showing off, just pitch-perfect delivery of each note, letting the words speak for themselves. The tune has a couple of key tonal jumps in it, and she nails them: no safe sliding up or down. Very happy you liked it, Dereck...cos we like you! 😘

Christmas 1979. In the UK we had Pink Floyd with The Wall at number 1 and ABBA with I Have A dream at number 2. Those were the days when chart placings really meant something magical.
3:35 His first name, "Janne", is pronounced like "Yann Eh". Janne Schaffer one of the most well known guitarrists in Sweden, and he has played with Toto and Bob Marley to name a few.
Him and Rutger Gunnarsson (på elbas/gitarr) were in some ways almost like ABBAS extra inofficial members...excellent,first class guitarrists.....probably among the best in the world..

Outstanding song. This is a pure Greek Syrtaki with only difference - it doesn't fastern closer to the end, it just pours out to the Blue Sea Choir.

after ABBA recoded this for the voulez vous album they went on tour and many times they would sing this in concert with local childrens choirs in towns and cites the went to. am sure there is a live version of this on youtube if you are interested to watch it

Another great reaction, Dereck. I Have A Dream was never one of my favourites but over time I've grown to like it more and the message it imparts is so relevant- particularly at this time when the world is so troubled. The song has been accused of being cheesy but everyone likes a bit of cheese, don't they? When's that ever been a bad thing? And Frida's vocal is as flawless as ever. You have many gems yet to discover in ABBA's back catalogue. Watching you react to them has rekindled my love for the songs (and the group) all over again so thank you for that.
This was there last single of the 70’s and in the UK got to no 2 but had therd been a chart on the Christmas week it would have got to no. 1. It was covered by the Irish boy band Westlife in 1999 and was the last UK no. 1 of the last millennium and the first of the new millennium
This sounds like Greek bouzouki in the background along with the guitars. The whole song has a Greek flavor. In my opinion.
Yup, it has a very strong Greek flavor, rhythm, guitar, etc.
Although the song seems to divide ABBA fans (some think the children's choir was a bit too sugary sweet), I have always loved it. It's a real anthem of hope, beautifully performed and arranged.
Another recommendation would be "Our Last Summer", a stand-out track from the Super Trouper album. A wistful ballad with a stunning Frida lead and exquisite vocal harmonies. It's also one of Agnetha's personal ABBA favorites.

This was covered by the Irish band Westlife in their first album I think, maybe you should check that out, as well as some of their other songs, they have amazing vocals. At the time I didn't know that it was an ABBA song, but love this version, and you're right it was very good for when we were all going through lockdown and the pandemic. If also gives me a lot of Greek vibes, which I hadn't realised before until listening to this just now.

Thx Dereck ! It's not guitar, and not sitars North Africa , But Of Bouzouki , a kind of guitar Greek Traditional with more rope. They had to use a traditional Greek formation, such as the mandolins of the Italian quartet on the title. ONE OF US.
Thank you. I think sometimes a review of the instruments should be looked at before the song is played so that Dereck can speak from intelligence. The bouzouki, also spelled buzuki or buzuci, is a musical instrument popular in Greece. It is a member of the long-necked lute family, with a round body with a flat top and a long neck with a fretted fingerboard.

I don't know if you have reacted to ABBA's My Love My Life, but you must. It is the most beautiful and underrated song by them along with Cassandra. Trust me, you will looooove it.
It's deep indeed. It's obviously referring to Christianity. "I believe in angels" (Biblical angels) "When i know the time is right for me, i cross the stream" (This is like hearing my preacher every Sunday). When you die you cross the stream into heaven. But then they say it's a fantasy and a dream which makes me wonder if they are mocking Christianity or praising it.

As I said in my previous comment, I Love ABBA, and I love to watch your reactions to them. You asked for suggestions, so here is my suggestion.: I would love to watch you react to the song called What about Livingston, released on their 1974 album Waterloo. The Wikipedia synopsis of the song describes it as a song that "admonished Swedish youth for their disinterest in great explorers". The Guardian said the song had "weird lyrics". The Telegraph seems baffled that such a song exists, commenting "believe it or not, there’s an Abba song called What About Livingstone? I love this song and I think that hearing your reaction to it will help me figure out why I like it or if I should like it at all.

A nice review and I think, Dereck has now reviewed all the songs from the original Voulez-Vous 10 track album except 'The King Has Lost His Crown', one that often gets over looked. Interestingly he has review both songs that were recorded in Spanish and the singles released either side of the 1979 album, Summer Night City and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!. The only other 2 completed tracks from this ABBA period were 'Lovelight' (The B-side of Chiquitita) and 'Dreamworld', a song ditched at the time of recording that was completed but felt unsuitable. There are a couple of demo's associated with 'Voulez-Vous' that were never completed. 'Just A Notion' and Rubber Ball Man', eventually released as part of the 1994 'Undeleted' demo. So Dereck is going to need to dig deeper into ABBA history to complete his own ABBA education! 'Our Last Summer' and 'The Way Old Frinds Do' and essential from 'Super Trouper', ;Move On', One Man One Woman', and the three 'Mini musical' songs from The Album. 'Two For The Price Of One' is the only song from 'The Visitors' Dereck hasn't listened to and there's a whole catalogue of earlier ABBA songs 1972-76 that Dereck has barely touched on from the 'Ring Ring', 'Waterloo', 'ABBA' and 'Arrival' albums. The only remaining song from ABBA GOLD not reviewed is 'Thank You For The Music'.

The two Abba Gold came out in 1994 I think, it was a birthday gift in CDs, and they were invisisible through the comeback or their music on Disco Polyester nights in clubs. They made it clear that they were never recording as a band again and a year ago I heard rumours that they might come back...Wha...,
They don't speak Spanish, but aimed for one of the most spoken language to translate their hits. Many did it , MadonnaSting, etc...
Thanks for the ABBA. I know it's kinda off the path but Benny's acceptance speech at the RRHOF would make a great reaction. When I watched him humbly tell where all the music came from. Well it all made perfect sense.

Hey Derek - this song and Chiquitita are the only non disco influenced songs on the Voulez-Vous album 💿- released as a single as 1979 was the year of the child / I appreciate this song way more now than then - it’s very relevant to today - there’s an Abba book called “the complete recording sessions” by Carl Magnus Palm - I think u would find it interesting- please stay safe mate 👍😷😊
In the Spanish version, I find their singing is more heartedly. While this is a bit more orchestrated.
Love both, but the Spanish one is unbelievably good. One can not compare human voices with instruments.
