The Art of DJing: Octo Octa - A capella DJ tools

- Live from Dekmantel’s 2022 conference, Octo Octa demonstrates one of her signature DJ tools: a cappella records, which contain several tracks of repeated vocals or phrases.
“I have a number of a capella records that I put on top of music all the time. Part of the fun of DJing is presenting music in ways that weren’t originally intended. It’s a really fun orchestration tool that you can use and put over anything,” she says.

I was there in the workshop that day at Dekmantel, and what a lovely and talented person is Octo Octa, her set b2b Eris Drew for the festival was definitely one for the books! ❤
Cheers from Costa Rica, girls!
You were right next to me, front row, for Hunee & Antal 😂♥️
Hope you're doing great!
Ftr, djs have been doing this since the 70's... it actually gave way to sampling but was always a staple in NYC clubs. Peech boys, Thelma Houston, Jimmy Castor Bunch, Grace Jones etc,. on top of beats.. not hating, She does it justice... just a little insight.
this is real talk

Best example I have EVER heard of using acapellas on top of other records was from a Derrick Carter mix tape recorded in January of 1994 when he was a resident at Foxy's. Just a Monday night in Boystown. No reason to go off so hard. And it's ninety minutes of pure FIRE.
@@earthman808 Those are the ones to cherish...
One of the best in the biz and a sweet person to boot.
Met her in Malta at Glitch Festival - big fan of her upbeat house tracks and her more contemplative stuff from her excellent 'Where Are We Going' album.
Her music helped me move past a rough time in my life for which I'll always be grateful. More power, Maya ❤️
I met octo when she was a he and the promoter was telling us to say her but he called her dude and everyone was like.... umm.
@@LordHando humans are a strange bunch!
@@lifecamerakaran Trendy follower mfrs tbh
Appreciate the extra details she adds to her mixes. So many producer-DJs just do the bare minimum.
Great to somebody who knows's their way around vinyl! Super dope!
So talented!!! 🎉
This is gold
Nothing fancy she says, but it hits the spot and that's the recipe.
This was great! Going to get some of those acapella records now 😏
Proper talent!

amazing
Really nice.
Great demonstration and nice 12"s !
Yeah get those claps girl!!
And now with Stems being part of the Big DJ Softwares we don't "really" need separate Acapella's any more.
Well Rekordbox Stems Acapellas are a bit crap but its there first version so :)
I like this dj. She’s creative and active behind the decks and humble but it’s hilarious that people are calling this skilled. It’s low grade 80s djing.
❤
Where can we find the whole interview?
Way to rep Nice ‘N’ Ripe!!!
Luv her
💋
I love her so much
:)
More educational than my university bs
Laughing because I run a university music program and was thinking, I should really share this with the students.
Excellent DJ
lol
she cute
No.
@@miguimau No u.
So ... a vocal that was out of key, not even close to be in sync and not on the right tempo ... over a house track that had literally nothing other than the standard kick/bass + few instrumentals ...
What's the big deal about this DJ ?
u wouldnt get it
You know
maybe you should watch more than a 4 min out-of-context clip before judging, mate
He’s trans so getting pushed more than a better DJ because of ‘the message’
@@feastmode7931 people/DJs normally are judged way sooner than 4 minutes and a half ;)
Это что за чудо-юдо. Дак а что важнее образ или грув, ты определись уже.
I would
