  • Here is how i play the Billy Strings version of "Rock Salt and Nails" (Song written by Utah Phillips, released First by Rosalie Sorrels in 1961, Billy's version is inspired by the J.D. Crowe and The New South version, details on billybase website : billybase.net/song/rock-salt-...)
I have transcribed it from that youtube video (Amsterdam 7/11/2023 live) (Thanks @rialto1961) :
    • Rock Salt and Nails - ...
Note that i don't use the same pick movements as billy, i didn't feel comfortable with.
Hope you will enjoy that video ! To be honest, i hesitated a little to upload it, i am not really proud of my play & tab quality, but i don't have time to make it again.

Thanks for another brilliant transcription, and play through. I've been slowly learning East Tennessee Blues, for what seems like months! Although I've played guitar for years, acoustic and flatpicking is new to me. So many notes to try to memorise!

Thank you very much! I agree with you! I've been playing electric guitar for many years but flatpicking for a short time too, less than a year. Like you, it takes me a lot of effort to memorize all those notes !!!! :-) And when I learn a new piece, I quickly forget the previous one, I have to play them regularly. But it's starting to become a little less difficult, and a few automatisms are being created over time. It's still difficult, but exciting and addictive! Good east tennesse blues training!
