    Kinda agree that boots on the ground is best. But, into my 8th decade and after cataract surgery, I think I see the tracks and trails just fine from the seat of a 4 wheeler.☝️🤠

    I’m hoping I’ll be able to get some traps out shortly once deer season goes out. Quick question, one of the places we trap has a lot of red clay do you think we could get away with using 18” stakes instead of ground anchors?

    • @CarolinaCoyote
      @CarolinaCoyote  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I know guys that all they use are stakes. They double stake them. I’ve never used stakes before

    Your content is so informative. I’m not a trapper myself, but I have friends that do, so I’m really thinking about trying it out. Your videos definitely make me feel the need to try and manage the predators on my hunting property.
    I thought in years past you were using the MB 550’s, or am I mistaken? Now I see you’re using Dukes.

    • @CarolinaCoyote
      @CarolinaCoyote  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thank you!! I highly recommend doing it, it’s extremely fun and beneficial for your wild game. And I’m using both now! I bought 12 Duke 550s just to see how they performed

    • @tommclain8100
      @tommclain8100 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@CarolinaCoyote have you seen a different between the Dukes and the MB’s?
      The crappy part about trapping where I live (Northeastern WI right on the border of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula) is there really isn’t much value in the furs (market is terrible) and we don’t get much time before freeze up. Our season starts mid October and we could have freezing temps and snow by the end of October, beginning of November. This year was a weird year. We had snow around Halloween, then it melted, and we had mild temps with no snow until the first week of the new year.

    • @CarolinaCoyote
      @CarolinaCoyote  Před 6 měsíci +2

      @tommclain8100 I haven’t seen any difference in the duke and mb550. My money will go to MB because I would rather buy things made in the USA instead of from china

    You ever used a flake/powder antifreeze in your sets? I'm running low on wax dirt and antifreeze seems like it might be cheaper per set. Could you give us a "ranking" in your opinion of baits and lures from loudest to softest or vice versa? Be cool to see that in list form!!!

    • @TheVenariEffect
      @TheVenariEffect Před 6 měsíci +2

      Not to interject. I just saw your comment and it rang true to me right now. I’m in Ohio and we have been in the single digit temps for a handful of days now. I used ”ice melt” driveway salt and table salt mixed with peat moss and caught a coyote this morning. Seemed to be the best alternative to not having wax dirt. Just put the rock slat in the bed, then peat, then table salt, then more peat and then more table salt. Hope that helps in your area!

    • @jackrose7261
      @jackrose7261 Před 6 měsíci +2

      He used to use antifreeze but according to Issac waxed dirt is better.

    • @CarolinaCoyote
      @CarolinaCoyote  Před 6 měsíci +4

      I’ve used driveway salt before but when the trap would sit for a while with no activity and I eventually pulled that set I could tell where the salt was eroding the trap. Traps are expensive, so I stopped using that method. I’ve tried the table salt, but I found that it takes a lot of table salt to keep the set functioning, it also eats at the traps but not as fast, and if it rains the salt will dissolve and then your back to a frozen trap. I’ve tried bedding the trap in only peat moss but always had trouble getting the trap to bed solid on that fluffy stuff. Doesn’t help that the majority of the dirt that I trap in is red clay. Everybody has their own way of freeze proofing their trap set and I have found that wax dirt works the best for me.

    • @CarolinaCoyote

      I keep using the bait until the container is empty. I’ve got some baits that are pushing 4yrs and I’ll still throw them into a set here and there

      @@derekcrank289 Bought my place when I retired and put it into wildlife management for tax purposes here in Texas. Been targeting coons and bobcats to help the turkeys. Had 6 hens come by twice while deer hunting and 12 come by another time. So I think I've helped. But, I saw coyotes a lot while on stand so I'll get active at them.
      Said that to say, used some old bait that had gotten a little rank in the summer heat and caught a buzzard.
      Luckily, he was suprisingly chill about getting set free because the closer you get to them, the less attractive they are.

    • @CarolinaCoyote

      I don’t “bed” the trap in peat. I only put peat inside the jaws of the trap. I bed the trap with wax dirt and then pack regular dirt.
