- Adding shims to the primary spring on my 97 yamaha vmax 500. This puts more preload on the spring, increasing engagement rpm.
Clutch shims. These are .060, the ones that I saw were .072. Whatever... send it!

Ok perfect. I race a car with a 440 pro x in it and I was trying to find out how to adjust the clutch to launch a bit quicker. This is perfect.
torquing is important,70 psi at first then back off and retorque to 48psi approx, makes a difference where the primary sheave engages the belt. Thanks for posting.
I'm going to shim my 340cc. Gonna make it hit hard.😮
Dude, I shredded a belt getting stuck in heavy wet snow. Yamanha Triple 7. But now my sleds clutch doesn't engage until 5k RPM. I'm new to sledding & learning a lot. Previous belt engaged around 4k. I think I might need a new spring or rebuild primary. Thanks for the vid tho, certainly helpful.
Thanks! Great video, I learned a lot!
Excellent video
Wow! Thank you!
Or you could buy a spring with more preload.
Do you know how to split the sheaves on this clutch?
I haven't done it on one of these. I have on polaris, but I'm sure they're different.
@Whitestrash thanks for the reply. Yeah, possibly because I can't seem to split it apart.
@@TheHunter1o1 I know on polaris you need a special tool for the spider and it takes like 250 ft lbs to break it loose.
so this will make the cluch engage at a lower rpm ?
Higher rpm.
Hmmm ok. Does that affect the top end ? Does that affect the acceleration? I’m confused ?
@@Metcalferacing_29 it shouldn't effect the top speed. It just helps launch a little harder. Quicker acceleration off the line.
