Thank you! Yes, Sethi De Clercq I very much want to learn how to use all the tools that come with my Google Drive! I am especially curious about Google Drawings, Sites, Sheets and more about Forms. Specifically: Forms: Can I use forms to make print out tests that have lines to write answers on instead of a small square text box. Sheets: Is there a way to Delete everything outside of my chart? SitesBLOGGER- what are these useful for? Do I need a hosting site to use Google Sites? I'm looking forward to ANY more Google Drive or Google Tutorials, and Word Tutorials. I'm a bit confused by the Word Cloud feature and how to use it on various devices. The whole New Word Filing system seems confusing to me as well. How do I file things in Word. Thanks so much for producing the very best tutorials! I'm really looking forward to more! PS, I'd like to recommend that you edit your channel navigation by displaying the playlists you have created under your upload playlist. The CZcams channel navigation edit tool is a small pencil icon that appears when you slide your curser just under the bottom corner of your CZcams Banner.
Angela Schans mind telling me, a newbie and long time ms word user, how to 1) scroll through a large text document using the arrow keys and/or 2) how to snap to a specific page in a large text document? Thanks.
peachmelba1000 Scrolling with arrow keys- I don't know. However, Command up and down takes you from the beginning to the end of the document- but you got me there on the scrolling and page thing- I used to do it with a page up and page down button on my keyboard- Thanks to you- I noticed my current key board does not afford me such a luxury. I have no idea! But snapping to pages or parts of a large document- THAT is easy! Pretty sneaky too! The trick to that is using a table of contents, and headers(invaluable!) To insert a table of contents you must FIRST make sure the Google Chrome page is FULL screen because it is the very last option on the list of insert tools and you will not be able to see it unless you are working full screen. When you select insert table of contents, it will automatically place a table of contents where ever you left your cursor (hopefully at the top of the document) The table of contents will appear empty until you have headings in your document. It's really awesome, because the table of contents is simply a list of links to each heading. Enjoy!
Well, I tried that but unfortunately bc my file is a novel in progress (190kb and 230 pages - so far), there are no headings. There are chapter titles but they were never set up to be headings (it's an old MS Word file). When I engaged the table of contents feature it scanned for a few seconds and said it found no headings. I'm starting to think I may to reformat the file....BUT...I'm having serious performance issues based on the file's size (I think) and wrestling with it to reformat it may not be worth it. Ever experience any such performance issues with really large text files?
Google docs automatically saved to your drive account. As long as you have an internet connection it will be synced and accessible anywhere in the world. You can see if it was saved and sync at the top of your page where it says 'All changes saved'. The sharing is only if you want to collaborate with others or give other viewing right to your documents. Hopefully you find many more videos on my channel as you begin exploring Google docs. It is a great application and the online sync is super useful.
+PATTY PERRY You are welcome. Do watch the other tutorials on Google Docs and let me know what you would to see next. I will do my best to record another Google Docs Basics video, and would love to hear from everyone what sort of things they are trying to do with docs.
This tutorial is for absolute beginners. I have many other videos that will hopefully show you some things in Google Docs you didn't know yet. Thank you for commenting though!
Can you eliminate the limitations on the page so you can write from top to bottom without such large borders at the top and bottom. I would like to fit more on the page
Absolutely! I've got another video on more advanced layout related features here: czcams.com/video/O2_rTACqWFQ/video.html You can set the page borders by adjusting the margins in File -> Page Setup
Here is a question regarding Google Docs: I am trying to embed links in my document. After embedding the link, the link does not open on clicking the words to which it is linked, instead it only shows up the linked URL. Any suggestion?
Anand Rangpara The way Google Drive and Apps works with hyperlinks is that it shows you the link when clicking on the hyperlinked content. This allows you to change the link by clicking on Edit. However when that same document is published for general viewing you link is no longer editable and work the way you want it to work. Have a look at File- Publish to achieve this. Also when you send the document to someone without editing privileges (Share - View) they will click on the link and the page will open. I hope this answers your question.
This is exactly what I have been wondering about. I thought the link shown to me will be same for others too. I had no idea that it doesn't work that way after sharing it. Thank you your detailed reply. I had been expecting it.
+Don Wood scroll over is currently not a supported function. You could turn the document in a hyperdoc (linking verses out to the relevant website or file) or use the built in functionality of footnotes to references different verses.
I give up. There's nothing there that I can see where I would type in Acts 2:38 and then the mouse hovering over it, pops up the whole text to be read without having to leave the document that mentioned it. It sounds like it's supported, but I do not find anyway to actually do one. To give you the example as to what it's supposed to do, see www.faithfacts.org/world-religions-and-theology/101-reasons-baptism-not-necessary-for-salvation and when you hover your mouse over the citation of the verse it pops up the actual text. Will Google Docs do this or not? Thanks
I'm what you are trying to do is currently not supported in Google Docs or any of the other G Suite products but I've a Mouse Over Scroll over effect for a long time myself, so I would suggest you send the feedback in app. You can Submit Feedback or Feature Suggestions for Google Docs by: 1. Open a Google Docs document. 2. Go to Help > Docs help. 3. Click on Send feedback (at the bottom). 4. Type in your feedback suggestions. 5. Press the blue Send button. These suggestions are used by the Google Team to decide on updates on new functions.
For as far as I'm aware it is only possible to have your first page (Title/cover page) without an automatic page number. You can start the page numbering from page 1 or 2.
Cripes. That's how Google starts a "BASICS" tutorial (I got here from the #1 hit on Google, who should know, right?)??? How do I set up GoogleDocs and organize docs in the first place. Gees, I KNOW how to edit!
Set up docs and organise docs? Sign up for an account with Google and open your Google drive by navigating to drive.google.com For all other questions you might have, have a look at my other videos as I'm sure you will find plenty of guidance there.
+sale dada no worries. Simply use the return key for next paragraph and shift+return for next line. Once you have done that you can find paragraph settings and add line spacing to have your paragraphs stand out. I hope this helps you.
I need to have half a credit in tech classes to graduate high school... The only class available for me is a google docs class... I already know almost all functions of Google docs and a ton of keyboard shortcuts.. I really don't want to go to this class...
I hope you can still enjoy learning new things along the way. Being a trainer I know Docs very well. However I still come across new and exciting things weekly and these save me a lot of time. It might feel like you are not learning new things now, but nothing stops you from investigating further, watching more videos and hopefully you will find something you can now apply and use. Wish you all the best!
You know Kung fu panda's level zero? Well that's me with google docs so don't laugh! I start by following the tutorial ; go into my drive, click 'new', click 'docs'...but then get this message; 'Sorry! Document look up failed! It's possible you deleted the file.' I can't get further than this point. Anyone got any ideas? I am running an Acer R11 in stable channel (whatever that is.) I'm also confused by the different versions of google docs. If I search 'googledocs' in my browser and save it as a bookmark it opens with a home screen which has various templates inc. blank oage, resume, letter etc...It's more like Microsoft Word. Now, the google docs app I downloaded from the webstore has a more bare bones functionality with limited tools. Is this primarily for offline use? And finally, the google docs app I downloaded from playstore opens in the browser and says 'chrome extension'. Not sure why or how this is different, better worse or when it should be used. I did notice that the online version is slower. Want I want is the functionality of the online version with the speed of the app. Not sure I have properly grasped the idea of apps as programmes yet but need a clear explanation of the different google docs formats. Like I said; level zero! Any help much appreciated as this is google driving me nuts!
Well, I got it working. I uninstalled the docs apps from web store and playstore then reinstalled individually and tried opening a new doc from drive each time. The playstore google docs app was the culprit. I have absolutely no idea why though. I thought Chromebooks were supposed to be easy?! My initial impressions are that they are good for people who want to surf the web, youtube, amazonetc... and for quite techie types who enjoy the challenges they throw up in order to get real work done. For those without the patience or time to re-learn how to use a computer in order to get some basic COMPUTING done then I reckon they might be frustrating. Maybe I'd be better off with windows 10? Also, I was led to believe that the performance was fast. It might boot fast but word processing is slow IMO. It might be I just need to get a more capable machine. Only 2GB of RAM on this.

cool
It's looks like you have an "undo" option. If so, how did you do that?
Command Z on a Macbook. My guess is Ctrl Z on a PC?
I need to know how to download a Google doc to my computer... It would not change it to word or any of the other choices under file.
Have you tried refreshing or clearing the browser cache. Under file, download as it should give you the option to export a word document.
Do you have or know where there is a tutorial for Google Docs with mouse over text of bible verses?
+Don Wood scroll over is currently not a supported function. You could turn the document in a hyperdoc (linking verses out to the relevant website or file) or use the built in functionality of footnotes to references different verses.
THANK YOU! I was using "mouse over" thus "scroll over" is the term. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.

I'm what you are trying to do is currently not supported in Google Docs or any of the other G Suite products but I've a Mouse Over Scroll over effect for a long time myself, so I would suggest you send the feedback in app. You can Submit Feedback or Feature Suggestions for Google Docs by:
1. Open a Google Docs document.
2. Go to Help > Docs help.
3. Click on Send feedback (at the bottom).
4. Type in your feedback suggestions.
5. Press the blue Send button.
These suggestions are used by the Google Team to decide on updates on new functions.
How do you save it? Or does it automatically save it?
Everything is automatically saved.
Good
I'm a bit confused. What is a header and a footer? I've seen it so many times and I'm not sure what it is or how to use it.
A header and footer is text that will appear on every page of your document. Great for long form publications and to have page numbers.
