This game has a lot of potential, it just need more characters imo, the Eosd cast is just too raw to make an entire game just for them, so ofc more characters would be nice
Disagree, you need to make a theme song, a whole story mode, and new models and voicelines for EACH. ONE. Chosing a a single 2hu game and making a cast centered on that one is a much smarter decision
The problem is that most people know of the esod cast. So it would make sense to focus mostly on them. Unfortunately I fall under that category as a very rare meiling fan :( we need more love for her

It holds a special place in my heart for being my first Touhou game, but after new competition came with the Genso Wanderer games, Sky Arena, Azure Reflections Spell Bubble and even Antinomy of Common Flowers it's hard to find more positive things to say other than "the UN Owen remix is really catchy"

I recognize that newer artstyle. It's also used in Genso Rondo Bullet Ballet. Which I always assumed was the first ever Touhou game on a console. (2016 I believe) Seing this game, they both have a lot of similarities, like the same bland background for all the VN scens with just one strip of location detail in the middle, similar modes with each character getting a story and beating up every other character in said story, an arcade mode, the same artstyle as I said and even similar chibi models. While I never played Kobuto, I have some fond memories of Bullet Ballet, despite also not being the brightest game out there.. It had a better variety of characters tho.
I remember seeing a nintendo switch copy of this game randomly when looking for something else at a department store. I was so excited to see a Touhou game in the wild that I grabbed my phone and took pictures of it like it was some sort of tourist attraction. I wasn't able to actually buy the game, though.
This game might as well be someone's bizarre fanfic. Like someone wanted to make a fighter fangame but also heard about Yukkuris and decided to include Reimu's Yukkuri and also focused it mostly around EoSD's cast being incompetent simpletons because EoSD is the only game they've heard about and they mostly went off of what the fandom's done rather than using the official sources. Seriously, what even is the plot for this game? Remi gets bored so her and Patchy preform a ritual to give her something new to do while Flan does whatever the fanbase wants her to and everyone else is just kinda... there.
Ironically, Flandre was the one positive thing I took from this game iirc. And then I saw the other fanworks and the official materials(Though I am still very surface level with them) and I don't vibe with Flandre anymore, lol.
I actually like this game. Maybe Touhou Sky Arena is a better 3D fighter with more content but I liked the simpler gameplay here and the fact that Rumia is playable. I just wish that this game had more playable characters and arenas though.

I got the deluxe version of this game on the switch when it first came out. Wow I forgot the final boss was a Yukuri. While in theory the mechanics of this game is as deep as any other fighting game, in practice the controls feels very terrible and janky. Also the online play lobby is constantly empty. Somebody made a Discord server for this game. It died after a few months and the owner had a mental breakdown and deleted their account. I still kinda feel bad about it.
I guess I will... Get the game for myself and try playing Youmou, I love her too much to let the opportunity to play her pass. Also, good video, as informative and interesting as ever, maybe even better!

As someone who has played this game lots I will not only take you up on your challenge of beat 44 but also the top three characters of the game are remilia then youmu then koishi so the dlc is worth it. Remilias spear just gives me nightmares. You walk down the street and then homing spear that deals 45-70% of your health just snipes you, what a great game!
Oh, I actually played Koubutou back in the day. It was pretty fun, but could use some refinement. I think the OST was good but it's been so long I don't really remember anymore. Very recognizable style though - as soon as I saw the screenshot, I know which Touhou game you're talking about. I think I remember playing it as an alternative to Sky Arena or was just looking for more Touhou fighting games, but it's a pretty unique game on its own.
I actually bought this game on PS4 shortly after I platinumed Genso Rondo, since they were both published by NIS America. Controls took a while to get used to, but I eventually platinumed it too.
The camera is like this because Virtual On camera was like this. I remember on Saturn you can only lock on the character when you dashed or jumped... Fun game though

I think this game is fun, not perfect, but definitely not a 3/10. It works and you can have a good time with it playing with AI or a non competitive buddy. What hurt it in my eyes was the mistake of charging £37 pound at launch cause it’s too expensive for not enough stuff. On a sale I recommend anyone to try it. Also it’s the closest we got the the GOAT that is Gundam EXVS ( V-On’ ture successor) on the Switch
A funny thing about this game is that the switch cover is actually translated to other languages, but the actual game isn't. So me and my friend actually got jumpscared by casually finding a Touhou game that had been translated in italian (and reading the back cover was fccking hilarious), so we bought it to see the translation and we found out we just wasted money 'cause the game is only in english
I got a sealed copy of this on PS4 for $7, simply so I could get the Platinum. I am still unsure whether to have regretted that decision or not. And thanks to the game’s imbalanced AI and the game itself being unbalanced, I have PTSD from Marisa’s “Kurae-!” and the beam noise after.

That online play was super dead even back then did not help matters. Also, how the heck do I not remember Youmu being in this? 6:23 Wait, it got updated way beyond when I stopped playing? For literally who? I feel like I am the only one bringing this game up these days, so I can only assume I was the last person who has played this on a casual level.(Not literally, but it very well feels like it.) Oh wait, after checking my switch, this now makes sense. I don't remember Youmu because she presumably released after I stopped playing(I just don't own her DLC), she was released in 2019, 2 years after Koichi(Otherwise, maybe I just didn't have any cash for her). Again, for who? Who is still playing this game??? xD Is there a secret competitive scene for this?
