    Reverse planning has been my life saver! I am NOT a planner, I get so stressed out when the plan changes and then I feel totally unprepared and unable to adapt. By having a loose structure and routine, and just writing down what we did instead of what I hope to do, I'm seeing that we're actually accomplishing a lot more and my kids are leading the process more which saves me extra time and worry!

    So helpful thank you. We have to pause our math especially so I don't get the satisfaction of checking off the box everyday. But I have to be ok with that. Y'all have full days, do you need to limit out of the house commitments to help? I feel like even just a couple things out of the house each week really throws us off! Thank you for your concise videos!

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, we definitely limit out of the home commitments during the week. We try to only have 1 thing (maybe 2 if we’re in a good groove and it’s worth it! 😉) going at a time. But our days are flexible and we’re relaxed enough that if something comes up that is more important, I’m ok pausing what we’re doing to take care of that.

    Thank you for sharing this because it made things so much easier. I will be homeschooling my 6 year old starting this June (where she would have been in 1st grade). I was wondering what cores to put in her schedule. My cores planned are math, language arts and reading and Spanish because she loves learning Spanish. I did add history and science as electives for 2 days a week but am wondering if her schedule will be too much. I just want to make sure she is having fun learning, after all she LOVES learning.

    Thank you for all the tips on how to begin. My oldest of three is only starting preschool this year but I'm already trying to absorb all the good advice from more experienced homeschooling moms and figuring out what I feel will work for us in the upcoming years. Did you do a lot organized things with your kids before the kindergarten age? I'm trying to keep things simple but some days I already feel anxious that we're not "doing enough".

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Před 2 lety +1

      You are way ahead of where I was at that time! I have never done anything very structured with any of my kids at that age. One of the biggest hurdles we have to get over is the understanding that learning happens all the time and we don’t have to force it or regiment it into certain times or even certain ways. Especially for littles. Keep it focused on having fun while exploring different letters & sounds, shapes and colors, and numbers & counting. Read books together, play games, explore outside. That’s it! Enjoy your time together! ❤️

      Thank you so much. That's very reassuring. It's hard sometimes when family and friends keep asking "so when is she finally going to school?" regarding only a 3yo. I'm currently reading the books from the summer book series, and they are helping so much. I'm so happy I found your channel.

      @@mariabartoszuk2047 It might help to look into things like the school system in Finland where they don’t even start school until age 7 and they rank at the top for education around the world. There are no studies showing that beginning education earlier is helpful. It’s actually shows the opposite with starting formalized education earlier being more of a detriment. It all goes back to you being educated yourself about the actual information and holding to your own beliefs about why you are choosing this path so you don’t get bothered by what other people think. Check out the book “Dumbing Us Down” by John Taylor Gatto. ☺️

    Great information! Thank you. We are new to homeschooling and you mentioned that in Washington State you are required to teach 180 days. I also live in Washington State and was wondering if you could point me to that requirement or law. I know we are required to meet the same hours as private school which is 1,000 hours but I didn’t know it had to be over 180 days.

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Před 2 lety

      You bet. State law is 180 days or 1000 hours of instruction. Homeschooling definitely does not take 1000 hours to complete all the work, with perhaps the exception of some high school curriculum. You can find more details for all the states at HSLDA. Hi Erin. For your boy who is on Singapore Math level 6, how much work does he do daily from the workbook? Does he do the Intensive Practice books? My daughter is on a same curriculum but currently on 5b Intensive Practice. She can manage these problems but sometimes takes a lot time just to do three pages of it, for example, and, on those days, she been having hard time following up on her daily routine. We have been trying so hard all this summer to figure this out.

    • @TheEclecticHomeschooler
      @TheEclecticHomeschooler  Před 2 lety +2

      We just do one lesson per day in the US Edition workbooks. I don’t have the Intensive practice books. Personally, I’m not a big fan of doing endless worksheets if I know my kids understand the concept. I prefer to keep it simple and move on when they’re ready. ☺️
