Aidan Sanita It's mostly Progressive Death Metal, but there's too many secondary genres to list. I'd say calling it prog death or extreme metal are also valid
Exact is the wrong word. They definetly have influences from Fallujah, becoming more atmospheric, but they have different impressions with their atmosphere and their song structures are different, lots of differences but still plenty of connections.
Pfft, yeah, sure dude. Except for that their sound is wholly different. I love both bands and listen to them both a shit ton, and the only comparison I can make is the brief bursts of atmospheric elements and really tight drumming with a heavy use of double bass syncopation. And honestly, maybe in this particular track I can understand where you're coming from. But listen to any of Rivers song and you'll realize pretty quickly they're otherwise vastly different. Both great bands though.
Most of Fallujah's music comes across as pretentious, and falls to the trappings of most songs being written by one person. Way more guitar wankery and pointless "atmosphere" in Fallujah songs, if you ask me. This band feels 100% more "organic."
@@calebafile4306 bruh...they're stilll tuned low. They're a step in a half down and the 7th string is dropped. that's LOW for a guitar tuning. It's impressive that the tone is so clean when the lowest string is F#
Sometimes you wanna go where owls know your name. And they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same. You wanna be where owls know your name.
River of Nihil is one of the most interesting projects at the moment, their last album is a gem, great production, great riffs, this bloody guys makes me enjoy music in another level!!
eiencorea fantastic show. Only problem the hardcore dancers... moshing is cool not karate... but lucky I'm 6'3" 260 so i just run into them hard. Dying fetus killed it. Rivers was amazing jam session
I'm pretty new to RON, but this whole album is incredible! It's the only thing playing in my car for the last five days. "A Home" is my jam. Already bought my tickets for the Dallas show. I absolutely cannot wait.
Oh my god how does rivers of nihil keep getting better, they so perfectly manage to mix the sounds and ideas from all of the bands i like, but make it into one beautiful song.
*puts slide on finger in solo* me: :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
The song structure is perfect, love the dynamics You guys are excellent writers, love this album. In 2020 i been spending more time watching bands , Thank God for this content Cant stand these reaction videos popping up everywhere.
I still come back after all this time. I saw them live with Revocation when the album came out and they are as ethereal live. Love this song in particular.
I KNOW. I am SO SALTY about Fallujah's new album. I was a huge Fallujah fan. I remember when I found The Flesh Prevails on here and just listened to it non-stop. Ironically, Monarchy was recommended, and I never sat down and listened to more than a few songs. Then Dreamless came out, and it was good, a bit different from The Flesh Prevails, but... still in that same "ambient tech death".... thingy. Then Owls came out, and it wasn't on my radar for a while, cause I don't know. My boyfriend threw it at me and I was all :o. So then Owls became my album I wouldn't stop listening to. And I got to see them for my Valentine's Day gift all was good. Until Undying Light came out. It broke me and made me so sad. I was so excited to see Fallujah was putting out a new album, but they lost the guitarist and the singer, who did the ambient stuff. What hurts the most about Undying Light is that you can hear tiny bits of old Fallujah in there. Tiny. But it never comes out as the ambient tech death that it used to be. Plus the singer... got worse. I mean, their original singer wasn't amazing, but he was working on it- he improved between Flesh and Dreamless a bunch I thought. He still fit better than what they have now... tl;dr I'm salty as fuck about Fallujah.
@@MarioSpeedWagon That is odd! I think Owls got put out, and the hype grew over the summer. By the end of the year, it seemed like everyone that liked metal- or at least more than what they play on satellite radio, was talking about it!.
Thanks for this video - it's how I got introduced to RoN. This one and Clean have become my absolute favourites. Oh, and let's appreciate the discrepancy between Jon frickin fighting for his life and Brody being like "Bro, you breakin' a sweat yet?"
Im looking for "rock daddies" and "salty dads" in the comments and theres none in sight, so whats with all the butthurt defensive people expecting them?
Comment sections are always full of people complaining about people complaining who aren't actually complaining. They don't have the emotional maturity to just say "I like this band" so they have to hide behind some made up problem.
Gus Machine "Criticize" implies analysis. They're just going to whine that this doesn't sound like the same rehashed AC/DC riffs they've been listening to for the past 40 years.
I was hearing it today thinking "I so need to get an 8 string" actually happy i only need to get new strings to learn this song. Never tried Ab tuning before... Sounds really good!
Huayu Ke Ab standard is rarely used. Cannibal corpse and Deftones have used it, with CC down tuning 6 strings. This band is alot better than I expected.
Their new album is pretty damn good.. ive been on the cusp of really liking this band during their last album, but this one got me.. its really fucking nice! Going to go back and give their last 2 albums a fairer shot now! Cheers!
You guys aren’t fair 😞 owls don’t give a shit about what I play lol . I wish I had made more better use of my time when I was younger than just partying. Awesome song and play through. You guys are gonna go places🤩
My one and only complaint I could ever have with these guys. I wish they'd use a 7 and a 6. Possibly 7 and 9. Just something that brightens the chords a little more ya know. Still make masterful music. Truly superb shit man.
THIS IS JOHN
Love that pause after Jon introduces himself 😂😂
They did him dirty
Zoomed in on that mfs face and everything, that's exactly why I never smoke weed in public
@@daredevil2724 This is probably why dude left the band. RIP.
Possibly one of the most innovative bands in modern Death Metal
Im okay with you putting this in a subgenre but I just can't tell if they conform into one.
Aidan Sanita It's mostly Progressive Death Metal, but there's too many secondary genres to list. I'd say calling it prog death or extreme metal are also valid
Indeed, you can also check Defeated Sanity out! you gonna like it man!
Ocean Gateways Insomnium meets opeth/btbam and Kenny g lol
Any band that uses saxophone gets my vote 🗳
.THIS IS JOHN.
lol
Damn, Kiesel's got the modern metal community by the balls.
"I'm JON!" the awkward continued hold on his face is so funny
Everything that modern metal should be. This album was so refreshing and I've already listened through it a dozen times
Rivers Of Nihil continue to evolve and impress.
Exact is the wrong word. They definetly have influences from Fallujah, becoming more atmospheric, but they have different impressions with their atmosphere and their song structures are different, lots of differences but still plenty of connections.

No way dude, being in the same genre as another band now means you're ripping off that band no matter what.
(jokes)
Most of Fallujah's music comes across as pretentious, and falls to the trappings of most songs being written by one person. Way more guitar wankery and pointless "atmosphere" in Fallujah songs, if you ask me. This band feels 100% more "organic."
Absolutely LOVING the more proggy vibe of this record so far.
This album will be one of the best of 2018.
The album is a classic since it birth!
I voted it album of the year. I can't wait for the Pittsburgh show!
you sir were correct
Best of 2018.
Night verses 2018 album is way better
I'm obsessed with this sound. Never even heard of these guys until this album. Can't wait
Vincent Del Gaizo its a damn good album to start with, indeed!
I'd advise you to scope their entire discography
I really cant understand why they have so bad reviews in encyclopedia metallum. I think the guys in that shitty site are all so fucking idiots.
gotta say, with how low they are tuned their guitar tone is exceptionally clear. good song too, can''t wait for the neew album
Technically, their guitars aren't tuned low. They just have a lower string on them.
@@calebafile4306 bruh...they're stilll tuned low. They're a step in a half down and the 7th string is dropped. that's LOW for a guitar tuning. It's impressive that the tone is so clean when the lowest string is F#
Those bridge cables they have them strung with would be helping with that, but yeah, great tone.
They use baritone scale guitars, which will help a bit with that.
It’s amazing what having a properly set-up guitar can do
Sometimes you wanna go where owls know your name.

Fan fucking tastic comment my friend, this murdered me.

One of the greatest bands on earth right now. Guys are in such a roll. Need them in Finland asap.
eiencorea going to see them tomorrow night with dying fetus and thy art is murder.
Michael Markle Damn that is going to be a cool show! I am beyond jealous 👀
eiencorea I'll get in the pit for ya
Michael Markle Awesome!🤘
eiencorea fantastic show. Only problem the hardcore dancers... moshing is cool not karate... but lucky I'm 6'3" 260 so i just run into them hard. Dying fetus killed it. Rivers was amazing jam session
They definitely grabbed the scene of metal by the throat with this record!
Absolutely marvelous!
How the fuck can you not like this being a metalhead?? There is no answer for it really.. Wow.. Mind blowing
The riff at 2:27 is one of the sickest riffs i've heard in a while
I'm pretty new to RON, but this whole album is incredible! It's the only thing playing in my car for the last five days. "A Home" is my jam. Already bought my tickets for the Dallas show. I absolutely cannot wait.
Watch this video every day. Love it!
Great! Reminded me a little bit of Fallujah with the ambient riffs.
Seriously the best album released in a looooong time
Love the mix of modern death metal, post metal/rock, and the Dredg-esque parts.
Holy shit it's totally Dredg-esque. How did I not see that before
Oh my god how does rivers of nihil keep getting better, they so perfectly manage to mix the sounds and ideas from all of the bands i like, but make it into one beautiful song.
still gets me every time.. damn
Just fantastic
YES!! ...and he just whips out a slide and goes to town. I'm loving this album.
*puts slide on finger in solo*
me: :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
Haha! Me too!
Man, he played the hell out of that slide.
that slide looks like i should be smoking out of it
country style for sure !
The bass in that intro is the real MVP here...
The song structure is perfect, love the dynamics

dual seven string action this is heaven
This album blows my mind. Absolutely amzing!
What tasteful gentlemen writing tasteful tunes!
You guys are killing it! Can't wait to see another live show.
Slide riff in a metal song.
Dig
August Campbell i mean Zakk Wylde did in no more tears when he played for ozzy soooooo😂😂😂
Great simply great, god what compositional geniuses are they.
Truly fantastic.
Type O vibes from Brody's black Keisel.
Creepy green accents
Absolutely love the fact they have a saxophonist in their band🤘🤘❤️❤️ being one myself you don't see that in many metal bands🤘❤️🤘❤️
I still come back after all this time. I saw them live with Revocation when the album came out and they are as ethereal live. Love this song in particular.
This song is beautifully crafted! Insane playing!
i love this band
This whole album is freaking phenomenal!!
The most anticipated album of the year.
Absolutely stunning

We’ve all been there!
Pretty darn good. Like their sound
That riff at 4:10 so good!

G D A in that order
Rock Daddy here and I am f-ing lovin it.
What a cringey comment
Nobody knows what u are talking about
This is when you watch this kind of video that you realise how the process of writing this song might be so hardworking and geniouses!

Come to San Antonio let south Texas state the love
This is my favorite rap song
Well that was great.
oh man this song is good
Where's the bass? That's the most interesting part of this band.
If u listen carefully u can hear it but I wish the bass guy played on this video too
Gear gods has a bass playthrough of a bit of this track on their channel.
It's Guitar World. They probably just turned up the guitars for the "guitar" playthrough...
Bassist is a fuckin beast
Kings
Slide in death metal…this band rules so hard.
hope they did 1 more play through
So fucking good. God damn.
Got to meet these guys during summer slaughter
And here I am wanting to watch the bassist.
