Okay, so I just read about interpreting dna results for sibling dna tests and the “combined relationship index” isn’t based on percentage of your relationship. They basically give you a numerical value based on the number of STR (short tandem repeat) markers that are the same in your dna strand. Yours is a 3, which means you have 3 STR strands in common. It’s not enough to determine a familial relationship. This doesn’t mean you are siblings of any kind, only that somewhere in each of your family line you have a common ancestor. Y’all are all good. Now, I’m not a doctor or geneticist or even in the medical field. So I really don’t know anything and am just giving you info on what I read. Anyway, just be happy and plan that wedding! 😊

So, that rating of "3" is not a percentage.
In fact, don't the Police and Federal Law Enforcement use a profile of five or six of these "STR" markers?
If I remember right, a match of three in that test would put them as being just sort of average. A fourth hit would be suspicious, and a match on all but one factor would show they were definitely siblings. 💡
Not bad. But, IMHO, they should still get at least one more test from another service, and a third to be certain of all results.

I said in the first video comments that you would probably be distant cousins, and you found out you are distant cousins. This is probably due to sharing a common ancestor 4 or 5 generations back. Given that you are both probably of Scandinavian descent, you share a common ancestor. Be proud of your mutual heritage. I suggest that you both get an Ancestry DNA test to explore your roots.
Having a 3% isn’t bad because everyone is related in one way or another. My parents have a 7% and still got married😊

Imagine the results said: "...were not conclusive in determining... _HOWEVER_ Libby is definitely Hunter's uncle."😄.
Other than having identical hair and skin, you two don't actually look alike (but God bless the weird people in the comments sections for making this fun content a reality👍). 3% is sharing a 3x great grand parent or multiple more distant relatives. i assume there must be something in your history that you arent sure if you are siblings or not. 1st cousins share about 25% of their dna. if you are really interested you should do one of the autosomal dna tests. they are good to about 4-5 generations back. you may discover relatives you dont know you have.

Nothing to worry about re: the DNA tests. You could actually be 3rd or 4th or 5th cousins but nothing to worry about.

I dated a guy who my mom told me was my unbiological cousin... I literally cried he was so nice. He wasn’t related by blood because his dad was adopted into my distant family on my moms side but it was still weird. Luckily we’re still on good terms and still talk

As long as they are happy.
We haven't got enough information to determine anything. 3 common strands could be an indication but it depends from where they were taken. We all have a lot of DNA in common even with tomatoes, and that is in a huge portion of the DNA. So the very first thing would be to know from what region those strands are from. If they are from a region that determines you family traits then it might mean something, but if it's a random region we have in common with everything else, because life is made of the same building blocks apparently, it means nothing.
DNA analysis is far from being an exact science, the notion is dominated by statistical power, from determining a single nucleotide, that is "called" on a statistical basis after millions of reads - but after 1 unique chemical process - to the scaffolding of genes that is somehow a composite result.
Those results will depend on: did they use a 1 cell DNA sequencing otherwise you get a composite signal of various cells, what bioinformatics did they use to normalise the results, how were those result interpreted and so on.
For such a "consumer grade" application I doubt they paid 3 grand a reaction if you pay 25 USD, looks more around the price of a genotype so there is to wonder what they did.
Point being if you want to know really you should not go with a Marketing trendy website but get in touch with a specialist lab that will be able to do a bespoke job. Depending where you are I can put you in touch with a lab if you want.

To that great of a difference, out of the genes that vary in people, you would have to find two people whose last common ancestor lived back when homo sapiens all lived together on the African Savannah,
Maybe, _maybe_ if you compared someone from North Sentinel Island to someone else from an uncontacted tribe in the Brazilian rainforest you might get a 3% result.
My Advice? Stop payment on the check you sent them and send out some samples to another service, instead. 😒

At 3 percent you are either second cousins or first cousins twice removed, or some variations of this. Two things 1) I would get another DNA test from a different company to confirm or refute this. 2) I would make sure to meet with a genetic counselor if and when you are planning of have children to aid in avoiding any recessive genetic disorders that may be at high risk.

From what found on the internet is that 3% DNA match is equivalent to 2nd cousins, it is legal in every state for 2nd cousins to marry and is quite normal. Weirder was that it is legal in 19 states to marry a 1st cousin.

Something to keep in mind, up until we had modern highways and automobiles, people didn't travel to far to find a mate, and if it happened to be a cousin- then it was not a big deal. No one thought this was taboo until Hollywood started making fun of cousins marrying in tv and movies. Rural areas especially had more cousin marriages than bigger towns did.
