    This was a brilliant lesson, especially with the colored stickers. I learned more in 10 minutes than I did with hours of reading. The scales and keys suddenly clicked for me in a way that it didn’t before. I feel like I’m off to the races now!

    oOoOO HHH! Thank you for this video! I dread the black keys in scales, I can never remember! But now I understand the scales follow a pattern, and I learned this from you! I have watched a lot of videos (looking for videos that aren't annoying), and you are THE ONLY ONE to mention that scales follow a pattern! It's so helpful to know that! The black keys in scales are no longer a mystery - thank you!

    Good lesson for learning scales and theory as you'll see in all music theory books. Learning chunks of 3 whole notes separated by a half step followed by 4 whole notes is a hack to learning the theory faster.

I liked your use of sticky strips as a clear visual for the flat scale patterns - I hadn't thought about in that way before and it has made things easier to understand. Your approach is really thorough and most importantly for me - allows me to see how scales are linked!

    Hello, all scale practicers! Someone asked: "When doing all 12 major scales in chromatic order, E Major and F Major both end on the thumb. How do you go from E major to F major fingering wise so you keep the speed... without doubling the thumb which makes it sound choppy?"
    I thought that was a very relevant question, (and a fun right-hand exercise challenge for all scale practicers to do! :) So here's my answer:
    When playing the last descending octave (if you play many octaves) with the right hand in E major, you would normally play the last 4 notes (A G# F# E) with fingers 1-3-2-1. Change this to 1-4-3-2 and then slide under with your 1st finger on F and continue! :) The same "problem" occurs from B major to C major, so use the same "trick" as above! Happy Practicing! :)

    • @OnlinePianoCoach
      @OnlinePianoCoach  Před 2 lety +2

      Hello there! Please don't spend hours practicing scales! 😲A good rule of thumb is about 20% of your practice time could be spent on technical exercises like scales, chords, and arpeggios, and 80% spent on learning repertoire. Fast playing you should build up gradually. Practice with a metronome very slowly, then gradually increase the speed as you feel confident. Nobody can answer how long it will take! It's like the question, "how long is a piece of string?" As long as it takes...😎
