Bit of an urban myth about the service interval of 50 years (caused by Grand Seikos errors in translation from Japanese to English quite a long while ago) - the service INTERVAL is much the same as any other quartz watch (maybe every 5 years, or more like only when it stops working lol) however the service LIFE of the movement is expected to be 50 years (or more). This was clarified by Grand Seiko a fair while ago after repeated requests to them to confirm the 50 year service interval. Big GS fan here, have couple of HAQ's in the collection at the mo....
If it does breakdown, just buy a new movement from GS and replace it.
Even a basic quartz watch can do twenty years without service.
Very truthful and honest review. I have had this watch for a while now and I can concur it is a bit of a scratch magnet. Size, finish and the accuracy is unbelievably satisfying to say the least. Also love the fact that my OCD is not triggered by a misaligned second hand. I have also grown quite fond of the bracelet, although it's not quite on par with other competitors at the price point. I found the watch looks fantastic on most variety of watch straps.
fantastically shot video! truly breathtaking scenes of the lovely GS! top drawer content mate...
Fantastic Grand Seiko watch. I agree with your review fully with the exception that you didn't mention the 19mm lug width and no micro adjustments. This could lead to a poor fit for some people. Finally, amazed the winner didn't claim the beautiful Champagne dial Grand Seiko so keeping my fingers crossed for the next draw. Excellent review as always Gary. 👍👍
I just purchase the SBGN029 version two days ago. It'
s absolutely one of my favorite watches ever. This thing is so incredibly well made. Really enjoyed your review.
Love how you explain the inner gubbings in this beaut of the watch, really informative 👍
Very beautiful! I'm not much of a quartz guy myself but very interested in this offering from GS. Thanks for the informational video.
Hey Gary, great review on a gorgeous watch. Definitely something I would wear😍. Keep up the awesome videos 👊🏼👊🏼
I like the look of that one, and still crazy how accurate it is. Also shocked the winner hasn't come forward yet for the other Grand Seiko....fingers are crossed I might still have a shot at that one!
I agree 100%. I have the blue dialled one and it's fantastic. Only 1 other negative point you missed is the lack of a micro adjustment on the bracelet and the lug width of 19mm! This has been rectified in the new auto version of this very watch with a 20mm lug width and micro adjustments. I was hoping the new one here would have also adopted this bracelet as well, but they went with 19mm lugs and the normal GS clasp we all hate so much. I wear it with a blue rubber strap simply because of the lack of micro. A pity. Otherwise a wonderful watch and my favourite GS in my collection!
I meant to point out that the half links aren’t actually half links so there is a sort of micro adjustment capability but you have to use the links in different combinations to get the finer adjustment…I’ll make a video on this I think
@@ILikeWatches2 I would definately like to see that 👍
Hi Gary, I think Seiko should hire you for P.R. and they would increase GS sales substantialy! Now seriously, your arguments for these movements has won me to the cause. Keep it up and regards.
Thanks…I enjoy sharing information on watches that people might not know much about…this was fun to film
I think it's good that the case sides are polished. It's easier to remove scratches from a polished case.
I agree with you Gary. For me I would like this model to have the red GMT hand that the SBGN029 has. The fact that these models have lumibrite is another plus because so many GS models don't have that.
Wow, glad to hear that you're gonna draw again the lucky winner for that SBGX263. I hope I still have a chance to be the lucky one 🙏😄👍
I have a hard time thinking of a luxury watch having a battery in it, but the movement does seem interesting.
😊 agreed. Good value. Hope they do not discontinue.
Beautiful watch. Wasn't a big fan of GS but have had the pleasure of handling a couple. Amazing finishing.
Great looking watch, I do love this quartz watch because of its precision and looks!! I have automatic watches and they don’t have the accuracy as this watch plus they are way heavier.
Beautiful and great macro shots to really show off the workmanship
Thanks
Quartz movements are great, I lile them just as much as auto's, and a movement this accurate is just amazing!
I started collecting Seiko 5 watches. Love them. Future goal is to buy a Grand Seiko. But for now it's out of my price range. Love your content
It's all right Gary, I'll take that GS that the other guy didnt get in touch about. That way you know its going to someone who's been a subscriber from the start and appreciates all that you give back :-)
Nice a concise review. Thank you. What is your wrist size?
I have eight watches in my collection, and five of them are quartz. As a first $2000+ watch, I would happily consider a GS quartz as a top choice.
Do Seiko make any affordable quartz watches? I prefer quartz myself.
@@colydeane They do, though the only one I'm familiar with is their "Tank" lookalike.
I’d love a GS and will definitely be on my bucket list.
Appreciate all you do!
Wow fantastic watch, I'm saving up to buy that GMT Grand Seiko its stunning !
You won’t be disappointed
I have a black dial Quartz GS SBGX261G (Not GMT) and I love it. Quartz is not a problem for me and there is a lot to appreciate on my £2,000 watch. It is an item of real beauty and the light refracts and flickers off the high end polishing. I like the sapphire crystal which has a UV coating within, rather than on the outside. I love the precision of the hands and the clean, framed date window. I like the bracelet with the one big exception....90% of the time in the UK my wrists don't expand, so on a rare day when the sun does come out the lack of a slight expansion-on-the fly is an irritating oversight.
I will not buy another GS on a bracelet until they sort it out. IWC has an exceptional bracelet expansion system. Just depressing the IWC logo eases the links out a few mm in either direction. I will buy a Rolex OP as soon as I can just for this facility .... but ... you know the rest!
Great review and I love this watch...
Great content thank you very much
So professional. I like your reviews my friend.
Nizar
The watch is not as gorgeous as the Champagne one, but a beauty anyway. Shame that the winner didn't claim it, but better for the rest of us xD.
Seiko are the fathers of the quarts, springdrive and so, and thus getting a watch from them with such technology shouldn't be a negative. The watch is pretty complete with great specs and design. Not grail worth it but great allrounded.
It is a great watch, thank you for this video
Very nice watch. Great video!
It's a beautiful watch Gary and definitely worth it. I used to be hung up on quartz, thinking it was inferior but in many ways it's quite the opposite. I don't think anyone seems to want that watch in your giveaway Gary, so feel free just to send it to me. It'll save a lot of bother!😜🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol…sure
Great looking watches, love GS.
Beautiful, but that date window 😥 . Great macro shots, I loved the clip where your face appeared on the side of the case 😎
Lol…thanks
Well, I'm glad to see that the reason I still don't have my Mech Suit is because all the good Japanese scientists are working on watches. Come on Seiko, save some scientists for the rest of us.
If I wanted a GMT and had the funds available, I would definitely choose this GS.
This one is a beauty, and, OMG, it’s a GMT. Big thumbs up from me.
Thanks for the video
All quartz movements are equal, but some quartz movements are more equal than others! 😉
great watch.... i really like it .... cheers
All grand seiko deserves respect, lovely watch
Hey I supported your Kickstart and love my Exciton ii.
You never told me how I could get in on your next development though.
I got quite a few "vintage" HEQ seiko’s to fix… I love them too…. Some 9xxx and a few 8Fxx I think they were, perpetually calandar ones… but lost the guide as to how to set the date correctly… I could probably figure it out again?
Stunning GMT. Love it
I’m torn between getting the blue dial version of this and a Tudor (either bb36 or 55) as my first (and only) luxury watch as a 50th birthday gift to myself.
Lovely watch! Gary, will you please review the SanMartin Milsubmariner Dive Watch SN006?? Would love a head to head with the Steinhart Vintage Military too!!! atb snack.
it is a beautiful timepiece even i'm not into gmt...
I'm someone that wouldn't spend much on a quartz watch but this Grand Seiko is a bit different (if I'd been the winner you would definitely heard from me by now) as is the Longines VHP.
In the GS Boutique for something else in November and wanted to have a look at one of these before I left - They kept selling out their stock apparently
Great watch. 👍🏻
These 'superquartz' watches are absolute stunners!
I wish they’d make the second hand sweep more like some other quartz watches. I’m sure they could do this without lowering battery life too much.
Absolutely stunning GMT. Thanks for sharing your content Gary... And by the way, count me in for the redraw 🤣🤞
Quartz Grand Seiko pieces offer simply the best value you can get in entry level luxury time pieces.
GS are getting on many more people's radar now. Get one while they're still as accessible as theh are!!
Una hermosa obra de arte de la relojería japonesa 👍
Hi Great watch indeed. Would I be able to purchase this cheaper in Japan off there this month?
My favorite is the champagne dial one
This case shape looks quite similar to my SPB207. Have you put this side by side with the new Prospex MM200 GMT that came out recently? I wonder why Seiko doesn’t do more HAQ releases like this… I would go for it simply for the heritage of Seiko being the Quartz innovators.
It is stunning!!!!
Beautiful watch
Can not believe it is not. clamed maybe one of us will be lucky next time
Video series idea Gary: people send you photos of their collections and you 'roast' them ... FYI the ugly bad decision collections are more fun 😁. (As an example In my 52 watch collection I still have a Ochstin and 2 Lige watches).
I've seen this done with fragrance collections on youtube and they are big hits.
I would worry too much about certain people using it as an opportunity to register a copyright claim…I don’t show any images others provide for this reason
@@ILikeWatches2 ... gotcha ... I get it no problem. 👍
Am I missing something? The links you gave do not seems to link to your Jan1st giveaway. Thx
A nice retro watch mate
Stunning
This is a great looking watch. As you said this is not an affordable watch.
Currently I have my sights on this very watch, but I'm concerned about the fit with no micro adjust. I've vowed never to buy another butterfly clasp watch for the same reason, after having to return a Longines Conquest vhp. I'd be very interested in a video about your findings using the half links Gary.
I have been eying the conquest but have been concerned about fit too.
@@watsondna I adjusted links of my conquest VHP and it has bigger size and small size links with you can adjust. Finally I found the best fit after my 3rd trial. I literally love this watch right now.
@@yasindemir Thanks for the info. I am going to try to find one in my area and get it in hand just to see for myself. However, other's experiences are always helpful.
It’s possible to get a great fit on the GS. The ‘half links’ are actually around 2/3 in length of a full link, so by combining the full and ‘half’ (2/3) you can really get a great fit.
See below
+4.2mm - Remove 1 full link and add 2 short links
+6.8mm - Don't remove anything, add 1 short link
+9.4mm - Don't remove anything, add 1 full link
I got a perfect fit, with just full links removed. I’m not sure why people dislike these bracelets - seem fine to me (so far). Sure, micro adjust would be great - but that zaratsu finish on the sides though!
I don’t like the design but appreciate the supreme quality of this watch.
PS Watches of Switzerland in London sell GS now, they had a GS quartz watch with a seconds hand that was substantially missing the markers 😲😱, I’m wondering whether the shop had adjusted it to make the Swiss watches look better quality!
What a beautiful watch. Unadorned and to the point. I would love it if it wasn't for the price 😒. Greetings from Bavaria
GS is my favorite!!
Hi Gary, any chance you may be getting one of the Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto watches on the channel to review? Next drop goes live on Thursday for people looking to buy
Unlikely…I really don’t like how it looks…
You are correct about 2 variations of GMT movement but I classify them a bit differently than you do. There's one that makes perfect sense (like the GS) and one that is pretty useless crap.
Great watch for the buck!! I need one 😉
So nice🤗
I've handled a few Grand Seiko 9Fs and it seems their second hands never line up perfectly as claimed... how was yours?
It looked the same in the video but it’s possible it was just the angle.
Is this perfect for 7 inch wrist
Tell me , have ever made reviews for Venicianico? I believe they deserve it
Looking for the link to enter the competition, but can't spot it. Can anyone please reply with a copy paste of it.. cheers
I'd like to win that beautiful Grand Seiko. About one third of my collection is quartz!
Coming to the review rather late. Love the look of this Grand Seiko but would prob go for the blue scarlet with red GMT hand. For £2,900 did my eyes deceive me in that on the watch reviewed the second hand does not perfectly hit the markers? That would stress me out especially with a quartz and the money paid out.
I got a second chance to win the GS!
Fingers crossed🤞
Why didn't the date change at 12 o'clock?
Love their HAQ movements but I just wish they fitted them into cheaper, more basic cases as I just want the accuracy and not the fancy trimmings. Zaratsu polishing does not impress me at all.
Even if I wished to spend that amount of money on a watch I would not do so unless service or repair were done in the UK; I do not want the hassle or expense of sending it back to Japan.
You mentioned the quartz accuracy of normal watches as being +/= 15 seconds / month. 35 years ago I had quartz watches that had accuracy better than 15 second / 6 months; a level that was far better than is apparently achievable today. So much for progress
I think the black white is actual daylight hours
I like the 3 hander better.
What a stunning and beautiful watch, I'm more than happy with quartz especially one of this quality and I do prefer the
SBGX 263 and maybe I'll get another chance if there's a re-draw fingers crossed
Gary can you give me the GS already please? It's taking up previous space for new exciting watches! George
Did anyone else notice the date changed at 4mins and 20 seconds past 12? What’s that about?
The previous models have the right amount of brushing and polish, these have a bit to much polish.
So this watch is a GRAND Seiko... Explorer 2 !🤔
🔴With 39mm instead of 42 mm for the Rolex ✅ 🔴More precise quartz movement +/- 10s per... YEAR instead of +/- 2s per day ✅ 🔴better waterproofing with 200m instead of 100m ✅
Then, the price💵 : ≈3 500€ for the GS instead of ≈9 500 for the Rlx 😍
Ad before is the exact watch. Lol
I like my Swiss mechanicals, but this review combined with my current accuracy issues caused by a magnetised balance are making me think twice....... Oh yeah, "nice"!
how do I enter the competition for the beautiful GS?
I put a link in the video description just now…sorry I forgot
@@ILikeWatches2 Thank you
18 minutes too late for the first comment!
great watch
👍
I find it utterly bizarre that most watch reviewers never talk about thermal compensation or the effects temperatures have on accuracy. Unless they happen to review a GS 9F movement. And even then it’s an afterthought. I guess everyone that has the money for real watches somehow live only in really warm areas. I just want one person to go outside in the winter time and tell me what it’s like wearing the watch when it’s -25*F to 10*F.
For this kind of style, I would get the CW C63 Sealander GMT any day!
