    I own a 2007 Expedition and honestly it's one of the most trouble free vehicles I've ever owned. With only 138,000 miles on it , I haven't experienced any of the problems he went through, but I did upgrade Struts to Monroes and it rode better than new , drivers side window regulator went bad , and actuator that controls the vents in the rear went bad. Replaced spark plugs with 117,000 miles along with a bad coil. Only major issue I have had was recently with the fuel pump going out. But hell, it's 14 years old and I had 137,000 miles on it when the pump went bad. I would buy another Expedition tomorrow if I had too , great vehicles...

    Only problem I ever had which is a problem with ALL cars is I had to replace the blend door actuators because the gears are ALWAYS made of plastic and break. I had to replace vapor canister vent solenoid once. Thats it. The best car I’ve ever owned.

    @leonarddaneman810 Před rokem +11

    The sparkplug and heads were redesigned about October of 2007, the date being on your driver's side. Always good to see if you have that updated part.
    At around 180K, good to have saved up for a full timing job. If you are detail oriented and handy, about $800 in parts. While the engine is open, replace all the roller rockers with the upgraded part, and also install a new high volume oil pump. With new phasers, solenoids, and chain guides, you will be good to go for another 200K or more.
    If you can find a good master mechanic, they will charge $3000-$4000 for the job. Sounds extreme, but even Mazdas and other 'premium' cars require this costly but essential service.
    A/C plenums can go bad. You will know when you hear a 'clicking' when the plenum door gets stuck either in the dash or by the row two floor vents. A shop will charge $800 or more to R&R, so if you have thin arms and small hands, and a couple swivel head closed end wrenches, you can do the job yourself.
    If you have the deluxe 6-CD Player, it will stop ejecting the CD's. It is usually because switch contacts inside the changer get dirty and all they require is cleaning. The CD Changer is easy to remove, but it isn't easy to get inside that player (made by Pioneer).
    The automatic foot rails need regular cleaning and lubrication. Scrubbing all around the motorized hinges and then a quality 'dry' lubricant will extend the life and function.
    I've owned my 2008 Expy for six years, 206K miles, and it is a runner and with extraordinary highway fuel economy . . . 22-25 mpg . . . but, is a pig in the city . . . and my unit has the 7 contact trailer connection and heavy duty rear struts, so is rated to tow 9200 lbs . . . those are rare and definitely check that out if you are shopping used.

    Great video. My wife's 2011 just started this bubbling on the tailgate, but was luckily manufactured after the spark plug issue. Only other thing I've seen that thought would make the list is the blend door actuator. I've replaced ours twice, and when I replaced it the first time, the one I pulled out wasn't original either (previous owner must have replaced it too).

      Blend door; hint, don't turn the temp control all the way to either end. That's when the parts reach stress points and the little plastic piece snaps. I was warned about this long ago, and so far, no blend door actuator failures. The difference in vent temps is virtually nil, you won't notice it at all.

    EcoBoost models with non PI engines (rare option!) will have turbo and water pump issues at 100k. While you're truck is torn apart it would be of the better of your interest to replace the VCT (Variable Cam Timing) solenoids because they arent far from failing. This is for the standard 3.5 ecoboost. I have the Police Engine option in my 2016, no issues running 56k strong, I have been told they are more durable as well. 🤞🤞🤞

    I have a 2011 Expedition 5.4 Triton 3v and I have to let everyone know, if you have this engine, replace the timing chain tensioners, VTC solenoids, cam phasers, and oil pump at or around 100k miles. The sooner the better because the biggest problem is the timing chain tensioners, the seal around them fails and allows the oil pressure on the tensioner to bleed off, causing a noisy start from the chain slapping around and it can cause a lot of expensive damage to the engine! I managed to catch it early and I'm glad I did. Not a bad idea to also replace the valve roller followers and hydraulic lifters while you're in there, they like to go bad too. Hey, you know what they say, Fords are great after you replace all the Ford parts!

    LOL, the MAF bit is in regards to every mass air equipped equipped vehicle. It's not a problem exclusive to Ford. For that matter, cleaning the maf sensor isn't noteworthy. I check mine once every few months. The second gripe I have....everyone thinks ALL the 5.4 are bad about spark plugs. After 2008 the 5.4, 4.6 used different spark plugs that didn't break. Or spit plugs out.
    Yeah, phasers are sometimes known to go bad, but changing your oil and using good oil will go a long way in preventing this.
    I own and drive daily an '11 Expy. It's a great truck. The blower motor resistor is indeed a common fail item. Easy fix, though.

    • @gregmorrill4783
      @gregmorrill4783 Před 3 lety +2

      Yup, same. '11 EL version. Love my truck. Just replace blower motor resistor today as it happens. Just the resistor cause though cause there was no corrosion or melting or signs the motor had gone bad. Resistors have a lifespan, and my truck is 10 years old and still had the original resistor. 🤷‍♂️

      Actually, it was *during* the '08 production that they switched spark plug types and coil boot types...so you have to know exactly when your '08 Expedition came off the line to know the correct parts to buy. You can find out when on that sticker that's on the frame ...when you open the door you see it, usually near the floor. Mine was built in July '07 so I use Motorcraft SP546 plugs and black coil boots, Motorcraft ignition coil DG511

    205K miles on my 2015 EL EXT 4x4. Original transmission (6 speed) failed under warranty (70K miles) and replaced. I hear this is uncommon. Zero issues since. Drivers side power seat has bad gears, started failing by 100K miles. Steering wheel telescoping motor starting failing at 100K miles. Drivers side turbo startling leaking coolant from cracked o-ring at 100K miles. Suspension starting going bad at ~100K miles. Replaced at 150K miles with Monroe (drives the same as new). Throttle body failed at 150K miles. Blend actuator for blower zone failed at 180K miles. Water pump failed at 180K miles. Coolant hoses rotted out and started leaking coolant everywhere at 200K miles. Backup camera died at 200K miles. MAF sensor showing signs of failure at 205K miles, e.g. rough idle. Outside of this, it's been the usual maintenance items. 5K oil changes and spark plugs changed every 100K miles; still on original coils. Never had a misfire. As far as wear items, my 2015 eats breaks, rotors and tires. I need new rotors every other break job, which is expensive. Worn tires every 40-50k miles, no matter how cheap or expensive. Even wear, zero alignment issues, even when suspension was soft. Tires just don't last. The 4x4 components are rock solid. I do a lot of high altitude, winter conditions and never been stranded, even on worn tires (heavy and evenly balanced for an SUV frame). Overall it's a very reliable vehicle. No phaser or timing chain issues so far (fingers crossed). I plan to keep until it's not worth fixing anymore.

    Great video about the 2007 to 2017 Ford Expedition.
    Thought I have never experienced any of the problems in this video.
    I have experienced some other problems and or issues with my 2008 Ford Expedition.
    One of them is the front drivers and front passenger side windows.
    The wires/cables that are connected to the drive motor and to the part of the windows.
    Keeps breaking and I have tried to mickey mouse them back together again. By soldering where the little led ball used to be another little ball.
    That worked for a little while but it didn't take long before they broke again.
    My only other solution was to just break down and buy replacements. But even those didn't take long before they did the same thing.
    I still have a few other issues with it, but I am not going to write a book about them.
    The only thing that I can say about my 2008 Ford Expedition is. That I have never had any problems with the engine.
    As long as I kept up on the maintenance with regular oil changes, air filters and checking to make sure all the fluids are topped off.
    The damn thing still runs like it is brand new.

The only other niggling issue is running 5W20 oil per Ford's recommendation....seems they did that for just the US market to improve fuel economy. Other countries same engine is specified for 5W30, so that is what I do. And of course, change the oil every 5000 miles and use full synthetic, and Ford OEM oil filters. Do this and the engine lasts and avoids some of the common problems like timing chain, phasers, etc.

      it's just an attachment that you use with a socket wrench except that inside the socket it's fitted for spark plugs instead of normal bolts. Very easy to use, just apply slow, steady pressure. Just do it by hand, do it with the engine warm, and don't use an electric wrench or impact driver to remove them and you won't run into problems. Also a little squirt of penetrating oil down in the cylinder after you've got the ignition coil off will help.

    Apply dielectric grease to the steel bolts threads and back side of the bolt contacts the aluminum. Is called electrolysis. "Exchange of atoms between 2 dissimilar metals".
    Same thing with the spark plugs. No manufacturer in the nearly 39 years I've worked on vehicles has the manufacturer applied dielectric grease to the spark plug "threads". . Tha same can be said for unitized wheel bearings and the hub surface where the rotors make contact. As well as where the aluminum rims make contact with the rotors or drums.

      A common problem with these is the hood latch sensor on the expedition/f150 goes bad and senses the hood is not latched even though it may be closed completely. You’ll also experience ghost alarms if this is the case.

    So i got some weird problems with mine. It's an 04 and whenever i turn on the AC, if i come to a stop, it shuts off. Just today i had the curiosity to play with the window buttons on the driver side. I held one and a noise coming from und the hood slightly changed. The more buttons i pushed at the same time, the more the noise changed. Eventually i held all 4 window buttons at once and the truck just shut off. No idea what is going on. I'm assuming something electrical? Anyone have any idea?
