  • The fishing has been very good to excellent for my clients and I. Still murky water condition as you can see on this video but the trout are feeding everyday just like us. Saw two redds on the way to the main channel, there used be a whole lot more many years ago and we did have some good amount of rainbows reproduced but some people went after the spawning trout including guides thus the reproduction rates went down significantly. Subsequently, NM Fish and Game started stocking triploid trout for about a decade now thus very few wild rainbows are left on the river nowadays. I have been fly fishing for over 4 decades so I know why almost all Catch and Release fisheries are deteriorating but almost no one wants to listen to me...

Is slapping the water with your rig another form of the “San Juan Shuffle??”

I am confused. Were you nymphing or dry fly? I thought Yong Wing is a dry..... yet u were fishing it with a Y-OJ which is a wet. I didn't see any indicator, even though u mentioned an indicator. If you weren't using an indicator, it looked like u did not detect some of the strikes, but it didn't seem to matter as they were on at the end of the drift anyway, so they really like your flies

This Yongwing can be fished as an emerger (subsurface with wings snipped), often rigged with Andy's Flasher. The other Yongwing is fished as a dry with full wings.
