I turbocharged my 1040 cc Imp in 1983 I tried various carb set ups , I ended up with Bosch K jetronic fuel injection , A race Team Hartwell head and R17 Camshaft and an IHI RHB5 turbocharger which was the smallest I could get back then , more suited to a 1300 cc engine . I ran it turbocharged as my 50 miles a day daily car over the next 15 years covering well over 100,000 miles .. Boost started at 3800 rpm and then rapidly rose over the next 1500 rpm and was off like a scalded cat .. I never had it on a dynamometer and the car weighed well over 800 kg . I estimate 160 bhp + There was huge urge from 6000 rpm onwards . 0-70mph , 9 seconds on my data logger .
50-70 3.0 seconds in 3rd gear come to mind . Your turbo space frame wold be a race winner depending on what the regulations allow . Back then I estimated if this was done professionally 200 bhp would be in range , later proved correct By Erics green hill climb car 25 years later . I did an Action day at castle combe in 1998 and no one got past ...although a 3.2 litre capri 50 yards behind going through avon rise started gaining when my waste gate got hot and stuck open ! Currently re-jigging with a sport camshaft and much smaller Mitsubishi water cooled turbocharger ... more suited to todays traffic conditions .

Awesome sound Andy, I reckon the Imp engine's strong enough for the extra bhp! I like the fact that it's in a mild state of tune regarding the camshaft. Is the engine in your track car of a similar setup minus the turbo?
