As for the subtitles, if you prefer them, keep them. Having them in the edit also has the secondary benefit of us knowing the dialogue without you having to include the audio in certain scenes, which can help you avoid copyright
I got used to subtitles quite young since my mother is deaf in one year. Although I don't need them per se, I find that having them makes it easier to branch out in to film types that might initially turn me off, like foreign language, different accents, or genres like horror where I don't want loud audio. I feel that I'm better as a person now in that I can understand accents that I needed help with a few decades ago. Besides, no one is getting any younger. Better to get used to subtitles when it's your choice than when it isn't.
The issue with subtitles is that it causes the reactor to miss way too much. Solo reactors shouldn’t use subtitles. Period. You can see them reading the damn subtitles. Plus, the current reactor here has the new reactor syndrome that I just can’t stand, aka looking everywhere but at the damn tv… phones or looking at themselves in their camera. Ugh. So for new reactors as well subtitles I’ll just add even more issues for them to follow the plot and then inevitable cringe follows of the classic “tv says something clearly and concisely” reactor less than 30 secs later asks a question that the show literally just answered and then the best “says exactly the opposite the show just told them and use that as fact for the following episodes”
They said there were 4 main kinds, not 4 only, so yeah the Addams family are human but freaks & geeks (like in the circus sense). Remember the teens with no faces in the background, & Wednesday is in the psychic category, a seer specifically. The original 60s show did establish that her mom & Grandma Addams both are sensitive to spirits & often held seances in order to connect with them fully. So this version takes it a bit further & says they don't have to necessarily hold a seance, I guess depending on the person's natural talent level & how much a spirit is trying to reach them.
Yeah, they were breaking them up like Jocks, goths, nerds, stoners in our social hierarchy in schools. Not every student fits a group Enid named. Just like not every student fits in ours.
Ha, I spent most of the first episode wondering why you weren't mentioning Gwendoline! I have a special thing for her since I've seen her on stage twice and you always get a little thrill when a face you've seen with your own eyes pops up on TV. She was the reason I started watching. I kind of vaguely remembered the Addams family TV show from when I was little, but didn't know too much about it. But I have seen five now and it's a really fun show with an incredible lead. Came for Gwendoline, stayed for Jenna.
I don't know. I mean, at least in this rendition, Wednesday has a sadistic side, but I don't see her as really evil at all. I get the impression that a lot of her most sadistic lines aren't exactly honest, but are more so a mask that she puts on to shield herself from the world. She's still very human, and clearly has a moral compass, even if it's a bit more lax than most people's. But, I mean, the whole show she's seeking justice and trying to prevent herself from causing something terrible from happening. If she was truly sadistic, I think she would have reveled in that instead of fought against it.
I think the joker is far more merciless and sadistic than Wednesday, we are literally comparing a weird goth girl with a fable for dark and morbid stuff with a sociopathic serial killer who likes to kill in creative ways that he finds the most funny
Enid told Wednesday that Fangs, Furs, Scales, and Stoners were the four major groups. We have seen students with no faces (whom I assume are Changelings or Shapeshifters) and Rowan appeared to be telekinetic, while Xander is able to bring his drawings to life, and both Rowan's mother and Xander's father are Seers (like Wednesday and Morticia) so there are lots of other "Outcasts" at Nevermore.
13:24 I'll say this as if I haven't seen any more of the show than this, so as to be completely spoiler free, but I actually think it could actually be really nice if Wednesday did end up falling in love and being with someone. A lot of modern media has this focus on emphasizing female independence at the expense of romance, which I find can actually be pretty toxic. Being in a romantic relationship doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your independence, and I feel like Wednesday would be a perfect character to explore that, for her to come to that realization that she can have emotions and be in relationships without losing her self-sufficiency.
The Snap Twice was a reference to the original Adams Family theme song were the music would suddenly stop, and then everyone would snap twice before the music would resume. this would happen several times in the theme song.
With the blinking in the scene at the therapist's office there are three explanations that come to mind. One, it was filmed early in the production before the director fell in love with her not blinking during takes. Two, Wednesday knows it is an odd trait that she does not want the therapist to analyze. Three, Jena had dry eyes that day and couldn't help blinking. Personally I lean towards option One.
If you pay close attention, you'll notice that the only time Wednesday blinks, is when someone says something that really throws her off her stride. Something she really didn't see coming.
Great reaction, I really love this show, Jenna Ortega is perfection as Wednesday, also really like the pausing and giving theories and thoughts throughout the episode
@12:15 To Wednesday, relationships are transactional, so her saving him, being repaid by him saving her fits in with her sense of how the world should work. "I do something for you, and you do something for me." This will be how she interacts with everyone throughout the show. When ever she asks someone for to do something for her or to do her a favor, it is always either preceded or followed by her doing something for them.
I think I saw Wednesday blink, possibly a couple of times throughout the entire season. From what I've found out, it was intentional. Jenna was able to blink whenever the camera was not focused on her.
The Fangs, Furs Scales and Stoners are a representation of standard "cliques" you find in regular high schools: jocks, cheerleaders and so on. As Rowan said and I agree, people like Wednesday, Rowan, Xavier, Principal Weems, Eugene and so on are the outcasts even amongst "outcasts". They do not conform to the larger more established cliques. It is never said in the series what they are, but I would like to call them Gifted as they all to have seem to have distinct powers or unusual interests: telekinesis, telepathy, animating artwork, shapeshifting and so on.
I prefer having subtitles. Also, I prefer the clip/ pause format. Two reasons: first, pausing frequently and commenting reduces the chance of copyright claims which will increase your output. Second, if you comment on things as they happen we see your thought process, how things change, and have context. If all you do is summarize at the end you might as well watch off-camera and just post reviews. @12:30 "Usually coming of age dramas ... involve romance in some way." -- That's only true in the past few decades. Traditional COA (or bildungsroman in literary terms) is more about losing childhood innocence, discovering your place in the world, making moral choices, and deciding on a life path. Think Treasure Island, Little Women, or The Outsiders. Making COA about romance is a post-Twilight phenomenon.
@10:24 The point of the boot scene with Christina Ricci, is that she saw the tape down the middle and planted one foot on each side, making her a neutral party, not on any side.
Without the subtitles, you missed that the school has a variety of outcasts. There's 4 common cliques: the fangs, furs, stoners and scales. But you missed seeing the faceless, the overly hairy and more.
I like and prefer subtitles. In older shows they enunciated and had to practically shout their lines so that the boom mics could pick them up. Now actors can mumble their lines....and some times with accents or background sound/music it's hard to hear, so 99% of the time I'll use subtitles. Some times I even have CC on for youtube videos. But since most CC on CZcams have terrible accuracy, I have the off 50% of the time.
Wow what are the odds, I havent seen your channel in like over a year, I use to love the LOTR reactions, I was looking for someone reacting to wednesday and stumbled across the new channel, Sweet!
> The Addams Family, at least some would be Paranormals which are people that can use Telekinesis, Clairaudience, Clairvoyance, Precognition, Retrocognition, Telepathy, etc... Wednesday seems to have several related to having visions, such as, seeing past or future events by touching someone or object reading when touch an object. > Dexter (2006) was a series about a serial killer that killed serial killers. A bad guy that kills bad guys. > You should keep subtitles on. So when you talk over the video we can at least read what is being said. Also, sometimes what is said isn't always clear. There is one word in this series that even when listening for it I swear it sounds like a different word. > The Addams Family (2019) is the only movie I haven't seen and it's CGI animated. In this movie I was told Wednesday has telepathy and is the first incarnation of her with a special ability.
The actress who plays Dr Kinbott was in the movie Last House on the Left, always cool to see her in this role. Edit: I think it’s cool you’re taking notes! 😊
Current tech, boy could Buffy and the Scoobs used cell phones, and that same connectivity for the Charmed sisters, even pre Superman KalEl over in Smallville too. Though a crystal ball would have been handy too.
The Addams Family would fall under other. The comic strip mad them look like zombies without ever confirming that. The original series made them out as strange weirdos but always eluded to real monsters existing in their universe. Cousin it is a walking fur ball;Thing is a hand; Lurch looks like Frankenstein’s monster; Grand Ma Ma acts like a witch; and Uncle Fester looks like s zombie. I know you didn’t want to see Wednesday hit the bullseye but the Addams Family is proficient is fencing, archery, sword fighting and marksmanship. There was no way she would miss.
I'm With you I hate the spoilers too. I would love for you to react to Orphan Black, but you have to skip the What's coming up sequence because they have huge, huge, huge *HUGE* spoilers in them.
Hope they do what was done with Castle and bring her novels to this world. Feel Viper is Nancy Drew by way of Raymond Chandler Sam Spade, a Veronica Mars kind of gal.
Anti-Villian. Mostly a good Guy/Girl but sometimes their actions are Villainous or Evil. Like many Comic Book Heroes that do Bad things for a Good cause.
hi!!!💕 i’ve been working on how i would want a possible patreon to work this time around and i have lots of ideas! i probably will launch it in the new year:)
How often do you get people saying "don't guess what's going to happen"... I don't understand why people watch reactions if they don't want to see someone actually reacting, lol. Unless maybe they'remeaning to be like "hey, don't worry too much about guessing, you'll find out" in a positive way? 🤔 Anyway, keep guessing. It's one of the reasons your reactions are great.
It's a good show but the problem is that the Addams family/Wednesday isn't among normal people. So the nuance of being drastically different isn't as impactful as it has been in previous incarnations. That's my only problem with the show.
Your pauses during reactions annoyed me a little at first, but your comments during those pauses were always interesting. I used to have the same problem with another reactor, but I got over it.
Bro, even in the normie school is unbeliveable that she is the only goth kid there. Like, when was the last time Tim Burton entered a school? Kids wearing all black with heavy dark make up is very common
I clicked on this reaction video thinking "Hey, she kinda looks a lot like that Cass girl from back in the day with her GOT videos." Then it started hitting me a little.... so I went to briefly check out your other videos on this channel and one apparently started with "I have my little sister Grace here with me today." Ok.... So you internet-died and then came back as a really pale ghost with pigtails. That's my headcannon now.
I think you’re over analyzing for instance I could say that I always suspect the least suspected person on the cast to be the antagonist in this situation to me that would be the Christina Ricci character
As for the subtitles, if you prefer them, keep them. Having them in the edit also has the secondary benefit of us knowing the dialogue without you having to include the audio in certain scenes, which can help you avoid copyright
This! I personally prefer them too.
I also like the pausing to comment during the reaction instead of all the commentary at the end.
It's also good for us, non native speakers, I understand almost everything in written form, but when it's spoken, I sometimes don't catch something.
I agree. These are Grapevine's videos, and she should make them the way *she* prefers.
I got used to subtitles quite young since my mother is deaf in one year. Although I don't need them per se, I find that having them makes it easier to branch out in to film types that might initially turn me off, like foreign language, different accents, or genres like horror where I don't want loud audio. Subtitles yes as for the arrow bullseye I thought it was widely known that Wednesday Addams was an expert in all weaponry that has a blade/point.
The apple/archery scene was a homage to a similar scene in the Addams Family movie.
Ha, I spent most of the first episode wondering why you weren't mentioning Gwendoline! I have a special thing for her since I've seen her on stage twice and you always get a little thrill when a face you've seen with your own eyes pops up on TV. She was the reason I started watching.

When Enid was explaining the various groups to Wednesday, she refered to them as 'fangs,' remember?

Xavier. (Xander is a normie in Buffy...)
"Please don't do it... okay, the apple was a nice touch". Wednesday can pull out these tropes.
I loved that you could tell that the animated spider was still collard of graphite (pencil lead).
If you are going to keep the volume down very low on the series, please do include the subtitles.
Enjoying your reactions 🙂
13:24 I'll say this as if I haven't seen any more of the show than this, so as to be completely spoiler free, but I actually think it could actually be really nice if Wednesday did end up falling in love and being with someone. "Hello everybody, if you couldn't tell I am dressed."
That is a good thing because otherwise I wouldn't be able to watch this at my public library. 🤯
The Snap Twice was a reference to the original Adams Family theme song were the music would suddenly stop, and then everyone would snap twice before the music would resume. this would happen several times in the theme song.

Or Wednesday was just uncomfortable with the situation, and was blinking more because of that
If you pay close attention, you'll notice that the only time Wednesday blinks, is when someone says something that really throws her off her stride. Something she really didn't see coming.
Yes, keep subtitles on! It makes it easier to follow if volume is on the lower side.
Glad I found your channel. I used to watch "my weirdo friend cass." Are your old videos somewhere besides Patreon?
Great reaction, I really love this show, Jenna Ortega is perfection as Wednesday, also really like the pausing and giving theories and thoughts throughout the episode

Independency doesn't mean you can't have a normal relationship. It's just in the 21th century most people still think they own their partners.
try telling that to someone in a BDSM Dom/Sub relationship....
4:13 When Wednesday smiles it is beautiful and terrifying.
It's great to see you back, Cassie
I think I saw Wednesday blink, possibly a couple of times throughout the entire season.
From what I've found out, it was intentional. Jenna was able to blink whenever the camera was not focused on her.
epic line.... :"he´s hyde-ing something" so good...

I always prefer when subtitles in reactions are on because I can't hear too well and don't fully understand otherwise
@10:24 The point of the boot scene with Christina Ricci, is that she saw the tape down the middle and planted one foot on each side, making her a neutral party, not on any side.
I love this show. It was fun re-watching with you.
I can't wait for season 2
For most people, see Wednesday smiles, RUN AWAY! Personally, I am intrigued.
Suddenly thinking Wednesday probably loves unicorns. She could probably carve the horns into weapons. 😅
Without the subtitles, you missed that the school has a variety of outcasts. There's 4 common cliques: the fangs, furs, stoners and scales. But you missed seeing the faceless, the overly hairy and more.
Take note as to what firms are in Kinbot's building. One has had some broadcast real estate.

Embracing the cosplay life!! Glad to see it! I also like the jungle vibe of your filming room-that plant on the floor looks Massive lol
I've been seeing more and more girls with Wednesday pigtails lately too. It's not a bad look at all honestly.
Beyond guillotines, another of Wednesday's hobbies is demolition as she and Pugsley liked to join Gomez in blowing up their train set.
Just as there is an Antihero, there is also an Antivilain: a person who does bad things for a good reason.
Wow what are the odds, I havent seen your channel in like over a year, I use to love the LOTR reactions, I was looking for someone reacting to wednesday and stumbled across the new channel, Sweet!

amazing show just loved it,,, thx for doing such a great reaction:)
"I find social media to be a soul-sucking void of meaningless affirmation."
Have you seen the "Adult Wednesday" youtube series? It was really good. The writer/actress was head writer for "Santa Clarita Diet".
She is the key,the why the monster saved her.
The Addams family have psychic abilities
The actress who plays Dr Kinbott was in the movie Last House on the Left, always cool to see her in this role.
Edit: I think it’s cool you’re taking notes! 😊
Wow. You are almost psychic when it comes to this show.
Current tech, boy could Buffy and the Scoobs used cell phones, and that same connectivity for the Charmed sisters, even pre Superman KalEl over in Smallville too. Though a crystal ball would have been handy too.
They released it for the long Thanksgiving weekend. It's also a bit of Ironic humor because Wednesday hates Thanksgiving.
I love how you go on a such a tangent 😂. I'd like to watch movies with you. I loved hearing your theories. And 3:06 totally agree.
Lighting is just right to behold your Beautiful countenance. 🥰

Subtitles are fine. especially for reaction videos since the volume on the shows are typically low making some dialogue hard to here.
I saw Enid and Wednesday as reflecting the relationship that existed between Principal Weems and Morticia.
no... morticia and weems are more like bianca and wednesday if they were forced to be room-mates
@@Metzwerg74, from her own statements I believe that Larissa and Morticia were much closer until Gomez went to the Rave 'N with Morticia.
Christina's last name would be pronounced 'reachy.'

So glad to see you back on CZcams. Will you be restarting your Patreon?
hi!!!💕 i’ve been working on how i would want a possible patreon to work this time around and i have lots of ideas! i probably will launch it in the new year:)
The arrow scene would have been better if Xavier had hit the bullseye first then Wednesday did the apple trick.
well... the way it is, it shows, that wednesday clearly can´t learn anything about archery in this club, so she looks on for a different club...
28:34 - I didn't figure that out until I had seen episode six, good call! btw, subtitles help, cuz we can't really hear the show.
How often do you get people saying "don't guess what's going to happen"... I don't understand why people watch reactions if they don't want to see someone actually reacting, lol.
Unless maybe they'remeaning to be like "hey, don't worry too much about guessing, you'll find out" in a positive way? 🤔

I was ALSO Wednesday for Halloween this year. You look way better than I did. It could be the long, grey beard.
Butterflies? With the Adamses, try bats. Or ravens.

It's a good show but the problem is that the Addams family/Wednesday isn't among normal people. So the nuance of being drastically different isn't as impactful as it has been in previous incarnations. That's my only problem with the show.
Not the Taylor Swift reference lmao “ur on your own kid” and “anti-hero”😂 or maybe I just hear her every where cuz I’m oppressed with her😅
Your pauses during reactions annoyed me a little at first, but your comments during those pauses were always interesting.
I used to have the same problem with another reactor, but I got over it.
regarding Wednesday's roommate, I am 100% on the Enid-Wednesday ship train. is it called Enday? Wednid? ???
the hitch hiker scene reminds me of peewees great adventure. large marge

They didn't actually say their was only those 4. They said those 4 are the biggest groups. Also i actually prefer subtitles

Pretty sure the fangers (vamps) are inherently goth - we just don't have any of them as main characters yet.
This TV series is a total fit for you.

You skipped the cello scene??!!

You look so much like Sarah Pascoe! 😀
