  • In today's homeschooling videos I'm talking about one of my favorite educational companies, Evan Moor! We use so many Evan Moor workbooks and I can't say enough good things about them! Today I'm sharing how to teach science quickly and easily, and at very little expense! I'm comparing three of the different science workbooks that Evan Moor offers so you can decide which one will work best in your homeschool family! I hope this video is helpful! Make sure to give it a THUMBS UP if it was!

    I hope today's video was helpful! If you homeschool, do you do science every day? What curriculum do you use for science?

      @@eo6357 We're still using it and I love it! This is my first year teaching it myself and I look forward to it every day! I've learned so much about history that I never learned when I was a kid! That's one reason we stepped back a little bit on science this year. I wanted to focus our attention on math, language arts and history.

    I like the Skill sharpeners science workbooks. They are super fun with Easy experiments. Also easy to look ahead at the topics and get books at the library and look up documentaries on the same subject.

    Great review - gave me a real sense of what Evan Moor offers for science. I like that these pieces of curriculum are straight to the point and I agree with you that it’s important to focus on reading, math and writing in terms of time in the homeschool day and make sure that other subjects don’t interfere. I like how using the EM science seems to allow science to be included without taking hours. I’ve found the EM curriculum pieces I’ve bought for my girls to use for other subjects in the past to be really high quality, so I’m going to integrate some of these science materials too!

    So agree with you that science should take less time then other subject at younger age. I just finished reading a book how to be a lazy mom and still raise a smart kid. I had to read this as I perfectionist and I dont like it :)). I learn how to breeeeze and smell the flowers. So the author said it is important set priority and include craft, art, music in your child routine. And learn language and math and history, and study science briefly. Get dipper into that subject at the same age when they will learn chemistry, physics. Because all that sience will be there in dipper lever and kid will be mature enough to comprehend. Right now with my kids 9 and 6 I focus on piano, craft, and other languages. I just switch my gear as it towards our end for this school year. We have few more weeks to go and we will continue to do some fun activities during their summer brake.

    Can you use only reading books and workbooks for homeschooling without buying textbook curriculums? What's your opinion... I am going to homeschool my son when he's ready right now he is only 2yrs old so just figuring out what I want to use and how I want to teach him.
    I kinda get the workbooks vibe from Evan Moore books just my opinion

    Hello, does this mean that you stopped using BJU science grade 5? Plus the the home science tools kit for grade 5? Just wondering if you completely switched to only Evan Moor and did away with BJU plus Home science tools. Thanks

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 3 lety +3

      We did for now. There's nothing wrong with BJU science, and I definitely plan to use it again in the future, but I wanted to step back a bit on that so we could focus on math, language arts and history! Plus, I've learned through my high-schooler's homeschooling journey that it's not necessary to focus too much on science in the early years.

      @@aplacetonest Hi! I read your last statement about your high schoooler's journey and it not being necessary to focus on Science too much. Is this because they cover everything again, anyway, in high school? I've been stressing about missing something and "how to get it all in." However, I'm learning that I may just be overthinking it and worrying about things I don't really need to. So when I read what you said, it just made me wonder your reasoning behind that. I just found you and love your videos! Thanks for the encouragement and help along the way!

    Do you know If Evan Moor workbooks have the higher grades?

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 3 lety

      I think the highest level they have is 8th grade but, depending on the subject, I wouldn't focus too much on the level. With some subjects I don't think it really matters what age your child is compared to the level such as: geography, paragraph editing, etc.

    When your daughter turns 18, and is a adult next year, are you going to let her have more choices and freedom? By this I mean phone access, driving, other choices.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 3 lety +13

      I will have to give her more freedom but I will also continue to guide her because a parent's job doesn't end when a child turns 18. Whether she's 18 or 80, I will continue to give her my opinion and try to keep her safe. :)
