Thank you Declan. A benefit of addressing some of these questions is that it makes me reflect on what I am trying to achieve and lay that out methodically which can only assist my thought process.

Thanks Mark for sharing your thoughts on this good question. From this episode I would pick out your point - "There are many different systems and its probably more important to have a system than what that system actually is ". I think this helps investors take responsibility for their own decision making by formulating their own system / strategy rather than adopting some one else's formula however talented that someone else seems to be. Of course it can be useful to include other people's corner-stones in your own strategy mix like looking for businesses with moats for example.

Thank you David. Often our system / strategy modifies over time not only due to knowledge and experience but also down to personal circumstances and needs. I still have several relics in the portfolio which were dividend ‘ballast’ from when I was working in a precarious profession and wanted the comfort of a reliable second income stream. These have not been added to in some considerable time and would expect them to exit the portfolio at some point as their importance and weighting has declined.

All very valid observations Mark. Personal circumstances do change over time and we have to adapt to that. In investing there is always lots to learn and experience to be gained. When I first started building my portfolio coming originally from Yorkshire I thought a small cap was what you put on your head

When I saw the title I thought perhaps you would be explaining why you married me?

Haha. You have certainly been a good long term investment but alas not available on the ‘open market’.
