Vortex Defender-ST: The Best Vortex Micro Red Dot?

- I test the brand new pistol micro red dot optic, the Vortex Defender-ST. It uses the Delt Point Pro foot print or the Doctor Optic foot print. Vortex has produced two previous red dots, the Defender-CCW and the Vortex Venom. Both of those dots had performance issues. Do these dots do any better? Check the review and find out!! I like the updates they made to it. I've been happy with the original Defender I got when they launched, zero problems
Thanks for reporting that. I have the defender-ccw and it is solid, just not a fan of the battery life, has yours been bad or not too bad?

I don’t have any experience with Vortex pistol dots. I think they make really good rifle red dots and scopes. Great video Trigger Bar🤠

Looks good, but all their pistol dots have been crap in the past so only time will tell. However I do love their HD scopes.
Yup, they have many lovers of their scopes…red dots have been…disappointing. 😂🤣. So far this is in the right direction
Looks good TB. I can recall taking a few shots with a Venom, but really haven't run into too many Vortex red dots. I had an odd toob blip, will see if it's a recurring theme, lol.

My first Slide Ride Dot was a Vortex. It was either a Venom or Viper. It didn't last until the water got hot. Now as for as Scopes and T1 style Red Dots, no problem with Vortex.
Yah I think that’s our hope, we know they can do quality stuff, why not a red dot. Time will tell with this one. I’ll keep you all posted with my friend!!
I don't know if that would cause a failure or not. I have seen a few people have reliability issues. 3of7 Project claimed the gun was unreliable but, I don't think I recall seeing a failure the whole time he complained about it. He seems like an honest guy. Then again he is a Seal. RMR is my favorite.
I’ve had that gun a long time and first time it’s been unreliable after the first 200 rounds and I for sure have over 1200 rounds in it now. It’s possible that wasn’t it but I was really bearing down hard right on the magazine. When I roll the pressure off I didn’t have another failure. It could have been something else but it sure felt like that was the issue.
@@triggerbarPhD Yeah, if you have that many rounds through her, I would call that good even if the failure wasn't induced.
@triggerbarPhD I went back and watched 3of7's video on it. He had one malfunction but it was with a Pmag and steel case.
I am a huge fan of Vortex and their Optics. I own several of their high-end long-range Precision Scopes they're wonderful. As far as micro dots I'm going to stick with holosun. I hate that they're made in China. They have been really reliable and I beat the hell out of the k model that sits on top of my Smith & Wesson Shield Plus. It just keeps working

Considered one of these, but ended up with the 507K mainly due to the green circle dot. Might grab one of these just to try out, but my eyes have issues with a lot of dots, especially fine dots of course. Love how this comes with a variety of screws. I also really like the top mount battery of course. Nice review! Hope you’re having a great week!
Thanks Christian. The only downside is it’s for the venom/doctor cut. Not many pistols out there favor that cut…

Agreed. I have the ccw. I don’t find it to be bad but the battery life and shutoff interval is terrible. Seems they fixed some of the issues. I hope the buffering or lag is better but honestly I couldn’t see that with my ccw like others could so I hope I’m just not a bad judge of that…
Please, Vortex, get a win for the pistol dots.

Yah I don’t want it smaller. I’d prefer bigger for a pistol.
