    A translation would be fantastic!

This is a pre WWII footage taken around 1935, not in 1939, and it was included in a documentary on Okinawa around 1935-1936.
It is one of the oldest footage on Te, and the only pre-WWII footage on Goju-ryu (but there are a lot of pre-WWII photos of Goju, and a lot of them have been taken at the same time that this footage whas taken).
The footage has been taken in the prefectural shcool of ? (I cannot remember what) in Naha. We can see the students of Chojun Miyagi performing various exercises. Then there is Jinan Shinsato or Juhatsu Kyoda (it is more probable that it is Shinsato, but not everyone agrees on who it is- and it should be noted that Kyoda is not a disciple of Miyagi, but a co-disciple and his sempai) performing the beginning of Kururunfa, and Tensho. Then there is a group performing Seyenchin (or Seiinchin, or Seyonchin, or what ever you want to call it because no one agrees; but it is not Gekisai nor a Shorin kata has I've read somewhere).

The film may actually be as late as 1940. I personally don't think the performer is Kyoda, as you said he wasn't even a student of Miyagi's. I'm not confident that is is Jinan Shinzato either. He was born in 1901 and the performer here looks younger. The people at CFA magazine don't seem to believe it is Shinzato either.

Indeed, if this footage is as late as 1940, this is probably not Jinan Shinsato, because, as you say, he looks too young. I personally never thought it was Juhatsu Kyoda, because he is even older (born around 1887), and would look older, even if this footage was from 1935 (and it would be strange for him to do a goju demonstration for Miyagi).
Who ever was the practitioner, I really like the way he does his kata, we rarely see things as fluid nowadays.
Anyway, thanks for posting this gem !
Please put a link to the CFA Magazine article.

It wasn't an article but rather a comment they made on one of their posts: scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/12993621_10154110350517640_3819125518909289590_n.jpg?oh=c7838798516834340fee32b93e6ccca9&oe=5915D3E2
It still leaves the question of who the performer is. Really it could just be an unknown student from the high school that we'll never know about.

I don't think miyagi martial arts is only for self defense cuz mr.miyagi did not teach offense attack to daniel larusso , he just wanted daniel to protect himself
