Great Western Railway, TFL Rail, Heathrow Express and LU Trains at Ealing Broadway on April 9th 2022

  • 2nd Visit to Ealing Broadway on the Great Western Main Line first visit since July 2019 and also the terminus's of both London Underground Central and District Lines
    Featuring services from Great Western Railway, TFL Rail, Heathrow Express, Central and District Lines
    Ealing Broadway first opened as Ealing by the original GWR on December 1st 1838 over 8 months after the first section of the Great Western Main Line between Paddington and Taplow
    The current name dates from 1875 when it was renamed Ealing Broadway
    The District Railway todays District Line opened from Turnham Green on July 1st 1879. On March 1st 1883 to September 30th 1885 the District Railway began operating services to Windsor todays GWR station at Windsor Eton and Central however was not a success was abandoned and since then District services have terminated at Ealing Broadway although it wasn't until 1905 when the District was electrified.
    Today Ealing Broadway services originate from either Upminster or Tower Hill although occasionally if District Line is not running Piccadilly Line can substitute although only occurs if there is Engineering Works.
    The Central London Railway todays Central Line was extended from Wood Lane on August 3rd 1920 although Wood Lane (Central) closed in 1947 and replaced by today’s White City station. Today services originate mainly from Hainault via Newbury Park and Woodford via Chigwell.
    There are 9 Platforms at Ealing Broadway Platforms 1-4 on the Great Western Main Line, Platforms 5 & 6 for Central Line and Platforms 7-9
    The present station building layout dates from reconstruction in 1965 replacing the original GWR station building.
    Some of the roundels on the District Line platforms are replicas from 1909 which were installed in 1992.
    At the time of filming the station has undergone major rebuilding in preparation for Crossrail which at present operate under TFL Rail having taken over from Heathrow Connect in May 2018.
    Over the coming months TFL Rail will be rebranded as Elizabeth Line when Stage 1 of Crossrail from Paddington to Abbey Wood opens however full operation of the line is not due until May 2023 which Reading services will originate from Shenfield via Stratford and Heathrow Terminal 4 and 5 services will originate from Abbey Wood via Canary Wharf.
    Worth noting that Heathrow Terminal 4 station remains closed since the Covid Pandemic began in March 2020 however is due to reopen in the summer along with the terminal itself according to the Oweners of Heathrow Airport however no set date has been announced.
    Electric services on the GWML began operating in May 1997 by Class 332s on Heathrow Express from London Paddington to Heathrow Airport Junction although it was a year later when the route was opened to Heathrow on June 3rd 1998.
    Great Western Railway stopping services mostly were served by Class 165 and 166 Turbos however since January 2018 when Class 387s took over with services running every 30 minutes to Didcot Parkway and some fast services during the day beyond Didcot Parkway to Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central as well as Newbury.
