One man PA PARENTEAU. Man the Avs were crazy that season Barrie got hurt and the Avs fell off. Btw the hit that got Barrie injured was highly illegal and should’ve resulted in a 5 minute major. The Wild should’ve never won that game
KTO is such a good channel/dude. He’s so dope. He used to collaborate so often with that guy…damnit drawing a blank but black dude with dreads all football content and says “que the Wayne” “cause I’m a go getter”. It’s how he started and now his channel is bigger than espn for football.

I was 14 when the US v CANADA game was on and because of the time difference the game was in during the day so my whole school gathered in the gym to watch it, this was in Canada so it’s was a huge deal back then.
I had literally the exact same experience I was so hyped to watch that in school
I was the same age, but the school knew about it so they didn't want us to gather together and cause a riot, instead we all watched in on our phones in class lol
same here! i remember we all sang we are the champions after beating the US
I was 17 and was up at 4 am and texting this girl I liked wow can’t believe that was 10 years ago.

Fire video bro nostalgic af. NHL is great now but back then it was just prime for me.
I played HS and College hockey in the late 00s and early to early/mid 2010s and I really feel like that era had the perfect mix of skill and physicality. The league was a cool mix of old school players, young talented stars, and a huge variety of unique individual play styles.
2000’s-2016 was prime NHL
id say 2000s to 2019 i'd say. Ever since covid the game has certainly been softer with not as much grit or depth and the goaltending ain't as good
Ok so I think it’s currently electric BUT I can see some points of opposition. Red wings falling apart when they were in there for playoffs after losing one mid players. Same with bedard at chi. Players not protecting themselves, players standing still watching the game they playing in. Always gonna be negatives and I think NHL NEEDS more superstars beyond the” Chicago Bedards”
I was 24 in 2014 and for me the nhl from 2000 to 2010 was best
...its because i was a kid and things from our childhood will always be held up over new things
I miss Carey Price
It's called nostalgia. The brain feels better when it is in a known scenario. When it changes, it causes discomfort.
Yeah I agree
I liked hockey 10 years ago, it was a nice mixture of skill and toughness and grit and heart!. Each team was different, just felt originality. These days, everyone has their skill players, everyone plays the same. Speed, youth, skill. Every team feels almost the same other than a few. The one good part about hockey today though, is the competition. Every point matters, and anyone can beat anyone on any given night.
unfortunately, I think analytics have been the biggest driver there, and they arent going away anytime soon. It has changed how teams evaluate players at the draft and on the open market. It has virtually coached some aspects out of the game entirely, such as wrap arounds and non-1 timer slapshots. I dont blame them, as they have the data to show that it's ineffective. However, it doesnt consider the lost entertainment value of every heavy slapper or botched wrap around that results in a mad scramble at a rebound and a subsequent scrum in front of the net.
the entire 2010s had everything exactly like skill, speed, grit, depth, goaltending, etc not just skill or starpower like the 2020s. The league is so soft now compared to the 2010s. I miss the 2010s when scoring 100+ points was incredibly rare and when the league and fans weren't soft
I actually feel like the NHL is possibly the most entertaining it's ever been in my lifetime, with me being 33. Last year and this year have just been on another level. So many insane, crazy moments.
I love that the Colorado Avalanche are the main character in the NHL. And its not even debatable. They were on their character building arc for the last 10 years and now are on top.
They were rat piss for like 6 of those 10 years lmaooo
Dude watching this video made me cry a little. As a penguins fan I loved and still love my team. But 09-18 are the years that got me into hockey. And it’s crazy how those years are over now
This era was right in the midst of when I was the most heavily invested in the NHL than anything else. Thanks for the run down memory lane. Unfortunately, for me at least, politics has captured my attention more than anything else these days and they’ve made it to hard for me to follow my team without a $200 a month cable subscription. We had three streaming services last year to get 75% of my teams games and then they put a majority of the playoffs on TNT which would’ve required yet another subscription so I didn’t even bother this year. If the NHL wants to grow the game or, at the very least keep their dedicated fans, they need to ditch regional sports networks and make it easier and cheaper to watch.
yessirr in the 2010s I was nothing but hockey lol and fitness ofc but that's not the point
This video is amazing! Theres nothing like prime crosby/ovi era hockey! Hit me right in the feels when you got to the olympics and price playoff injury 😢
You gotta love torts! Just a true gamer
Its more entertaining than ever. What youre feeling is nostalgia
You’re 13 or autistic
Playoffs were way more entertaining back then. There’s no rivalries now lol
There’s no physicality now and goaltending and defense is non existent
Facts = nostalgia got it
mediocre goaltending, no girt, depth, too soft and too much 100 point scorers now. The 2010s had everything not just skill and people weren't butthurt or soft over the littlest remarks.
these vids are sick keep it up bro
I remember teemu’s last game. That was the most emotional game I’ve ever attended. Great vid 🍻 LGD 🦆
as a Hawks fan, take me back man
I remember 2014 Olympics, Finland beating USA 5-0, Teemu Selänne winning Bronze and retiring.
Great edit.
I remember when Tampa Bay bought out Vincent LeCavalier, it felt like a bunch of teams were interested. He signed with the Flyers for 4.5 mil and everyone clowned on them for overpaying. I was excited. I thought he would be a solid 2nd line center and would be looked at like the Jeremy Roenick signing from back in the day. Not as good as his prime but still a good veteran center. This was one instance I was very wrong on. VLC was not good for the Flyers.
Hard to believe that the 2014 season was a decade ago now. 👀👀😯
Sounds like the Leaf's have not changed
Hockey is better now than ever. Only reason you could give that it’s not is the age of the pointless fights basically came to an end. The talent is far superior now
I don’t know, seeing the young superstar Bedard and then kane’s return with Detroit on Chicago ice. Been good recently. Now a year or two ago, maybe I’d have complained but self correction is working. Even the heavy weight belt has returned.
imo this is the comeback szn for NHL especially after all the covid bs. Been a great year of hockey💯💯
@@johnzioulass right. I’m trying to see the opposite opinions as to where they’re are coming from and seems to be the regular fear of change and nostalgia. Not entirely sure but it’s my best appraisal of situation, yeah?
I think my favorite memory from that season was when my dad and I went to a Blues game. They were playing Columbus and went down 2-0 in the first on some weird goals. Then the Blues scored 3 in the second and third period to win 6-2 and 2 of those goals were from Patrick Berglund. The others from Sobotka, Lapierre, Schwartz, and Pietrangelo

then corona happened and nostalgia really set in with everyone playing in the empty arenas.
oh yeah and dont get me started on post-2020. especially 2022 blowing a 3-1 lead to the rangers.
The 2013-14 season ended not only with LA coming from the brink of elimination THREE TIMES against one of my favourite teams at that time in San Jose, but also eliminating any hope of Anaheim or Chicago winning (THANKS DARRYL!!). The season also ended my interest in watching TSN thanks to the stupid ongoing debacle called 'Rogers spending 5.2 BILLION DOLLARS' on the National rights to the NHL. I really wished the Flames could have left their pathetic regional contract with Rogers and gone to Bell but now it's way too late for that to happen.
Turned this video on as I was falling asleep. Will get around to watching it but wanna express one thing.
The thing about the nhl from the early to mid 2,000’s that I miss the most was the amount of pure goals.
What I mean by that is goals straight off of a shot. Maybe a small deflection that was intentional by an offensive player.
There are so many goals in todays game where players just throw it at the net and bounces off a players ass or hits the defenders skate and goes into the net.
Don’t get me wrong when it happens for my team I don’t complain and I know a goal is a goal but it’s such a b.s goal to be fair and idk why they just don’t excite me at all.
That’s really the biggest thing I complain about in todays game.
Sometimes I actually like those goals because of the determination to score even though they’re kinda lucky they also kinda aren’t lucky if you know what I mean
Hockey has never been better. New hockey has gotten me into the sport

You didn’t have to bring up the 2014 avs wild game…. I was there and it haunts me to this day
the game was actually tough, gritty and low scoring. That was what made it fun. The 2010s had so much grit, depth and brick wall goaltending. Now the league is soft and getting 100+ points isn't even an accomplishment anymore given how common it is now than in 2019, 2017, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2007, etc
Best season ever for the LA Kings.
I'm torn on the status of today's game. I want the game to grow, and the nhl has done a really good job at making the game approachable to new fans. In doing so, I feel like the game itself has shifted away from the sweet spot. Hockey is almost the perfect game for today's method of consuming media in 20 second TikToks and Reels. Between the goals, the game is often too wide open to be captivating for a full 60 minutes. Especially so when increased scoring often means teams are winning and losing more games by multiple goals. I think the inflection point was a little less than 10 years ago, and I'd argue there was a rapid acceleration away from the mean immediately following the shortened/bubble season. As a devils fan it feels weird for the team to finally be competitive, but somehow it feels like im sitting on the edge of my seat much less. I think many of the rule changes, such as the crackdown on net front defending, are a bridge too far. Like baseball, I also think analytics have probably hurt the entertainment value of the game, despite being revolutionary in multiple ways.
we need to bring back olympics
2026 👀
I think the entertainment value of the nhl took a hit when doc emrick retired. The playoffs haven’t been the same since.
He really was the voice of the nhl! Miss that guy!
yessirrrrr!!! The game is still exciting but it hasn't been as fun since his retirement in 2020. He was one of the main figures that made me fall in love with the league and why the 2010s was the best.
Just my Opinion but it think todays NHL is way more action packed and a completely faster game all around.
But it's missing those great fights. And that's really important part of hockey.
I think there are undoubtably a higher volume of goals and highlights for sure, but that only adds up to a few seconds or minutes per game. I think it's comparitively less action packed when you consider what goes on in between. I definitely have some bias there as a devils fan though. They have spent the last 10 years designing a team geared towards today's wide open play up the ice. I have no problem with more goals, but it feels like win or lose, there are more lopsided games where the last 5/10/20 minutes are a formality.
and it soft. The 2010s was so rugged, hardcore, intense and low scoring which was why it was fun then but now more blowouts are happening and literally everyone is getting 100+ points and there isn't much grit

@@MSZFilms it definitely was. I started watching hockey that season and the bruins hawks rivalry was fun. Bruins are really good at being dominant till it matters most though smh.
Everything dosn't suck now.. thats being dramatic, right? But things sure are different. For sure the NHL and hockey has changed with society. No stopping it... but I do miss the old days!
Haha went for the dramatic opening I guess it worked haha😁💯
The post-2004 game is less interesting imo because it put an absolute emphasis on speed and finesse over everything else. A lotttt of NHL players make the cut over others simply because their skating is superior, even when their overall skill set is kinda mediocre compared to the pros of just ten years ago.
I’m sorry but there’s no way the average player today has a worse skill set, no way when you see games from only ten years ago you can see how much the nhl has progressed already like everyone back then wasn’t as skilled and they weren’t as poised. If you had someone like Quinn Hughes or Cale Makar back then they’d dominate even more
Wait, 2014 was already 10 years ago?!
Having watched hockey for 35 years, I agree with you. The lack of major stars despite so many teams and so many jobs is really surprising. The 80s was insane on ice. The 90s was also insane but also with expansion, back when expansion was exciting for all of the NHL. The 2000s was kinda bad, but the superstars were legends and the wars between Detroit and Colorado. The 2010s had the best playoff hockey with the four kingdoms...two from the East (Bruins and Penguins), two from the West (Kings and Hawks) along with a lot of strong teams in the West but it tailed off heavily in the latter part of the decade. Since the early 2010s, there hasn't been that much action...there have been some mini-dynasties but they all played against non-dynasty teams.

People saying that NHL is entertaining more than ever now are totally wrong, let me explain.
Hits per game, fight per game are decreasing over the years. More flopping from players and much more controversy / inconsistencies with the refs is at the highest it's ever been.
I will not deny the talent the league has right now with Mackinnon, Kucherov, Hughes brother on the rise etc. But 2014 had the prime Ovi, Crosby, Price, Kane and many many more generational talent that we won't see for many years. (arguably most of them are first ballot HOF)
International tournaments was happening in 2014, now Bettman doesn't even allow the players to do so. Some of the most electrifying 2000's hockey moments was happening around 2014.
Hockey now is relying much more on a ''system of play'' and can become boring for some (not saying the game BECAME boring, but for the newcomers it can be + can also be a result of my very first point I made above)
If we are strictly talking about entertainment, 2014 wins it by far, the game was relying less on a system, more hits, fights, more tournaments, better highlights, better storyline in playoffs etc.
Exactly. It's annoying that all these karens try to get fighting out of hockey. Hockey needa fighting. Humans will always like to see people tearing each other apart.
Also Datsyuk was still playing then
thank you. The previous generation of talents in the 2010s of Ovi, Crosby, Stamkos, Price, Kane, Malkin, the Sedins, Datsyuk, Iginla, Bergeron, Perry, Panarin, Hedman, Kopitar, Quick, Thornton, Pavelski, Tavares, Marchand, Lundqvist, etc gets taken for granted in many different ways. The 2010s decade was so low scoring with lots of grit, toughness, depth and high intensity with stellar goaltending. That is what made the game fun and enjoyable. Even with guys who weren't superstars and were more like chumps like Bolland, Burrows, Big Buff, Maroon, Kesler, John Scott, Chara, Lucic, Dustin Brown, Getzlaf, Backes, Abdelkader, etc had their fair share of significance and importance to teams and the game itself. The game now is so soft compared to the 2010s with everybody getting 100+ points now and there is very little fighting and mediocre goaltending.
how the fuck is varlamov still in the nhl
Dude we don’t need to be so negative, yeah sure that decade was good but chilllll we’re gonna look back on this era the same way
we aren't being negative soft little cupcake. We are saying what is real. Don't be butthurt by that like other fans who have pussified the league the last 4 years.
bro don't know where you were in 2014... but Price was the best goaltender by far that year, not Lundqvist. You said it multiple times in the video so I'm here to correct you. Sorry. Lundqvist won a Vezina in 2011-2012. Carey Price won the Hart (league mvp), William jennings (fewest goals against), Vezina (best goalkeeper), and Ted Lindsay (most outstanding player), in 2014-2015. It's not even close, Price was the best player in the league in 2014, and if he didn't suffer so many injuries (thanks to Lundqvist's classy teammate Kreider) he'd have had a better career than Henrik. That's not an opinion, Henrik is a great goalie, but Price was way better in his short lived prime.
2013-2014 stat comparison (year leading into 2014)
Henrik Lundqvist: 63gp 33W-24L-5T 2.36 GAA .920 sv%
Carey Price: 59gp 34W-20L-5T 2.32 GAA .927 sv%
2014-2015 stat comparison
Henrik Lunqvist: 46gp 30W-13L-3T 2.25 GAA .922 sv%
Carey Price: 66gp 44W-16L-6T 1.96 GAA .933 sv%
Factor in how good a team the rangers were at the time, which Lundqvist played a large part in by giving them top notch goaltending. Still the Rangers were stacked with talent like Rick Nash, Marty St. Louis, Mats Zuccarello, even a young JT Miller, and a solid d-core.
then look at the 2014 habs lol, who had max pacioretty in his prime and that's about it. (sad when the 3rd and 4th highest points on the team are two defensemen, Subban and Markov) Carey Price quite literally put this team on his back and stole game after game.
Don't know where you were but hank put up a crazy 2.14 gaa and a 927 save % when it mattered most in the playoffs while price had a 2.36 gaa and 919 save % (yes price got hurt but your disrespect for the king is crazy)
and idk about you but 2015 was 2015 not 2014 (what the video is about) when price won all this hardware you're mistaking 2015 with 2014 lmao
Montreal was 21st in the league in goals the rangers were 18th in 2014 you're acting like hank had some explosive offensive team carrying him which just isn't the case, I love both goalies, both guys deserved better teams in front of them, but you seem to think its crazy for calling hank the best goalie on the planet in 2014 which he might of been there is definitely a case for both son
@@user-nq4hj5eh9v Henrik was easily top 3 in 2014, but it's disrespectful to say he was the best when he wasn't. Price was. So I'll throw your own words back at you. I'm an ottawa sens fan which is about as unbiased as you can get in this debate. Get your eyes checked.
@@soccermtb13 people like you are the worst, since when is having your own opinion disrespectful? guy in the video literally said "the great" Carey price when mentioning him both goalies are great, and you could even have the opinion that rask was the best goalie in 2014 he did win the vezina after all
@@user-nq4hj5eh9v since you said it was I was disrespecting henrik by pointing out price was better in 2014 lol? bro I'm just using your own faulty logic back at you. I remember this era well, Price was the only reason the habs were a "playoff" team. The rangers were a much better team, and could have made a deep run with an average goaltender. If anything Henrik got robbed of his chance to win the cup by a team that seemed to always choke late in the playoffs, and price was robbed of his chance when kreider took him out on a breakaway. The two best goalies to never win a cup. But in his prime Price was no doubt better, Lundqvist had a much longer career and was extremely consistent over it. So perhaps bes goalie of the decade, but not better than price in 2014 or 2015.
@@soccermtb13 im gonna end this debate here by saying in your original comment you made it seem like the rangers were some powerhouse when that just wasn't the case and that's why hank had success, that is diminishing how good he really was for no reason, pretty disrespectful don't see the faulty logic both are great tendies and yes you're spot on in 2015 nobody can debate price was king, but in 2014 you can make a case for a number of goalies
Personally, I believe the 90s were the best years of the NHL.
90s trap hockey bro? hell nah. Try 1980s
@SaveznaRepublikaJugoslavija I was born in the early 80s and although I've been watching since I was basically born, I don't remember much from the 80s NHL

Gotta split the 90’s between Russian invasion and trap phase. Late 80’s til the early 90’s were great. I like today’s nhl the best probably. Or the blackhawks run lol (bias)
@bochafish I get it but for me, the skill, the hits, the fights, the passion, just doesn't seem to be there like it was.
