@@bfpncsr3608 What that the one with lots of moving blocks and a weird camera? I think one with a normal camera, so it just feels strange would be fun.
@@inverlock Yeah it's the exact same bug just in a different game. Any game with an infinite coordinate system is susceptible to a similar issue. Once numbers get big enough (in this case by moving insanely insanely far away) the computer can no longer be accurate, so things like your position get buggy as it loses accuracy and tries its best to estimate the closest value that it can deal with.
@@StardustTM_well its not exactly the compiler, its just a side effect of floating point errors. In lots of programming languages the type 'float' can describe numbers with decimals, such as 125.6666666. Each float is still stored in 32 bits. To still get lots of decimals in this number, the comma can 'float' - the value 125 can have a lot more decimal places than the numer 125000000. Consequentlly, when you do anything far away from the center of the coordinate system, you loose a lot of decimal places, and thus any sort of position/rotaion transformation will look stuttery.
Bwoah, the top 4 are all insanely cool maps. I think my personal favorite is the glitchy physics one. I didn't even know that was possible! A tournament on (some of) these maps sounds really fun! Also loved seeing my map in the thumbnail :D
You'll get glitchy movement in most video games when you go far away from the map origin. Video games usually store player position as floating point numbers, which are basically binary scientific notation. Floating point numbers can store fractional values, and values that are far greater than an integer of the same size, but they get less precise as the value gets larger. Get very far away from the origin, and the imprecision in your position will be large enough to be noticeable. For games where that is a common problem in normal gameplay, due to normally moving very large distances, (e.g. spaceflight simulation games), and where dividing the map into separate pieces with loading zones isn't an option, a common solution, at least for singleplayer ones, is to simply keep the player at (or at least near) the origin, and move the universe around them.
@@zuthalsoraniz6764 thanks for the technical explanation. I was somewhat aware of this due to being an old time Minecraft player (Farlands). Didn't know it was possible to extend the build area (or move the mapblocks?) that far outward in trackmania though.
@@concinus I don't know how human-readable trackmania map files are, but this could probably be done by opening the map file and just adding the same large number to each block's coordinates on one axing.
Now I'm really want to watch that Boundary-Break like video of detail analysis of how floating point imprecision is affecting visual and physics in various versions of TrackMania at different levels of imprecision.
In my opinion the top 4 map wasn't really a bad ideas map, it was more like a challenging cool ideas and difficult transitions map, which looked really fun to play though.
@Simon Albrecht you can clearly see that for example top 2 is based on a really bad idea though and probably not fun to play, while top 4 is not based on a bad idea in my opinion and looks a lot of fun.
There are technically ways around floating point imprecision (dynamically change the origin), but very few games ever do so since you can just not put content that far away from the origin.
The Top 3 were all incredibly unique maps - I want to see a strictly vertical COTD now! Would make a great 1st-Of-The-Month track.
There was one, 1st February 2022

"i threw physics out the window" may be my favorite concept ever in a map, even if playing it sucks lol
It reminds me of the old extreme distances in minecraft where all the physics and world blocks became super buggy, before becoming an impassible wall.

Imagine a mapping comp where you must use atleast one of every block
Imagine that...
Would be like 20 minute maps
@@xnferno yes they would but scenery
@@xnferno The one I made took ~20 hours to validate...
@@tomasznazar8914 I guess scenery wouldn't be included😆
2nd place: So someone is close to discovering Far Lands in Trackmania, huh?
lmao really, it feels the same
@@aspidinton now we just need a trial map being built out there like sth by simo_900
Damel simply using floating point imprecisions at high values with a normal map, great idea !

Someone should totally make a no physics campaign variant!
Great top 6! Loved seeing my map too (second from last)
The physics one was by far the best imo. It is so weird and unorthodox that it perfectly fits the theme. Would be a great troll cup of the day aswell
Now I'm really want to watch that Boundary-Break like video of detail analysis of how floating point imprecision is affecting visual and physics in various versions of TrackMania at different levels of imprecision.
A01, but in the Far Lands
I will make it to an Edge video... someday...

I mean, the idea of a Bad Mapping Competition is a little bit of a contradiction in itself, that's the joke…

It was nice of you to include maps in the video even though they didn't make the cut. This was a cool competition. :)
some very talented mappers here, great video man!
very cool, didnt think my map would make it this far! :)
also first and second place are both so cool damn. and also the other maps haha :)
My god, I didnt know the farlands exist in Trackmania. That is amazing
Yo the top three are sick, I love the aesthetic on the last one!
the two last ones are awesome, these are the only one rly fitting the theme imo, the 3th place also kinda fits but yeah
Pretty sick choice of music 👍🏻
Yes, we absolutely need the tournament on the painful maps
A tournament with thid map would be really cool
The cool thing about the physics map is that this happens to every single game that exists if you go far away from the center of the game world.
There are technically ways around floating point imprecision (dynamically change the origin), but very few games ever do so since you can just not put content that far away from the origin.
Good music choices!
Wow i've never seen anything like #2 before, didn't know that was a thing
We made it Pog
brilliant stuff
Track 4 should be a cup of the day
A trackmania tournament on these maps really sounds like the best of the worst ideas ever!
Mom I‘m famous. I was in an Edge vid 🥦
I wanna see the tournament happen. The break your keyboard tournament
i think it would be fun to have a competition on this but my potato pc from 2011 doesnt agree with tm2020's hardware usage
How do I join the mapping competitiion? Where can I get a pinged notification?
Siema byczku, ten angielski to pozna człowiek wszędzie
do you do this full time?
sick maps
Finally got a top position :)
imagine small kacky map in one map
Nadeo, please pick one of these for 1st June COTD
Nice
I dont think that you chose the right map. It was a bad mapping competition and Neonrides is absolutely amazing.
The one from the thumbnail looks let's say interesting 🎉😂❤ great maps, thx everyone
that first place map BWOAH
your map was DEFINITELY the best
Number 4 is the best one
How many world records do you have?
yay finally

Cool to see Geometry Dash
Why is npesta in the top 6 map??

you should comment your videos bro instead of that music
Fake. Most of the ideas were actually good.
