    Alapana of ketharagowli is unique & is worth a piece to hear again & again. Varali by the violinist is very apt.

    I keep returning to this. Stunning singing and accompaniment. I love the hand gestures and expression. Keep doing more of that and express yourself to the max. Music is an artform and freedom of expression in all forms is something I love ❤ 😍 👌🙌

      i did not understand: "mridangam playing with krithi" please explain

    • @sriramrajan5160
      @sriramrajan5160 Před 2 lety +1

      @@climbeverest There are two types of playing as far as Carnatic is concerned , a kriti means a song . The first type of playing any percussive instrument is playing only according to the thalam / beat this type of playing would involve just playing one notation for the whole kriti and playing an ending after the kriti is sung. There is a second type of playing which is referred to as playing for the kriti , here keeping in mind the emotions conveyed by the singer certain groove is established the percussionist must anticipate the groove of the song being rendered and play with laya and volume modulations. In other words play notations which would suit the song. Play soft where singer sings softly , play loud where singer sings loud , play slow where singer goes slow , play fast when singer sings fast. In Carnatic music Playing for the kriti is more appreciated, another word is playing in groove.

    • @sriramrajan5160
      @sriramrajan5160 Před 2 lety

      It is the duty of the Percussionist to support the main singer . They have a big role in embelishing the concert, which can be done best by playing for the krithi.

  • @kanthanrao2664
    @kanthanrao2664 Před 2 lety +2

    Mirdangam vidwan Tiruvarur Bhakthavatchalam should not prove his dominance in stage than main artiste. Each and every main Artist will have their own manodharamam and Render kritis with Bhava, the percussionist shouldn't spoil through his unwanted playing furns and keep on playing Melkalam.., Just Sarvalagu will do well. Tiruvarur Bhakthavatchalam always does this and spoils the momentum of rasikas to listen Kritis. Mirdangam is misused by him and he should listen to yesteryear vidwans recordings to follow the kritis. Better he can retire and pave way to younger generation who are doing good than him for the sake of Good music to survive.

  • @shreenathdeepak
    @shreenathdeepak Před 3 lety +2

    Baktavatsalam spoils the melody of songs giving too much korvais in between songs this his habit he rolls rolls every time

    • @sriramrajan5160
      @sriramrajan5160 Před 2 lety +1

      I agree. When playing for a concert one must play under the main artiste in this case the singer, during the concert time is given for percussion solo here in this time slot the Percussionist can play however he wishes , while playing for krithis it is best to stick to Sarvalagu. It gives stability and makes it easier to play for the krithi.

    • @sriramrajan5160
      @sriramrajan5160 Před 2 lety

      Playing for a krithi should be kept as simple as possible. I enjoy playing the sarvalaghu pattern while playing for a krithi . In our solo portions it can be played with a lot of rolls.

  • @rangaveeravalli

    doesn't the carnatic music dais have a sanctity? decorum?
    what is this tea-kadai dilettante behaviour that we witness early on here in-between the krithis (as indeed in many of nowadays' concerts) - and that too between the alapana (kedaara gowla) and krithi ??! it is a sacrilege :(
    sangeetham is a nishtai, a meditative form, naadha yogam, at its highest levels.
    we are not asking for those lofty levels, at least not any more. but this, and that too for a 90 to 120 minutes-long lengths ??
    what would happen if the concerts were to be the three-plus hours format of the yesteryears??
    the mind boggles.
    no doubt the musical talent is there - the kedara gowlam alaapanai is one of a high order, chandra jodhi sweet though short, hindolam playful pleasure - but the *mano-dharmam* ?! - in that sense of the disciplined mind tethered to probity in between ??
    alas! where is it??
    as another commenter below has said - for a different reason though - it is better NOT to view the video but only listen to the audio of the cutcheris here in the youtube... :(
    ps: thankfully, now, over these years that have gone by from the time of this concert 7 years ago, he seems to have outgrown such compulsive distractions...

    With many musicians (including this vocalist) these days, one has to close the eyes and keep the ears open. They sing well but their acting on the stage is really abominable. We do not want to see "acting" from the vocalists while they sing. Period.

  • @premanandakumar847
    @premanandakumar847 Před 4 lety

    Commendable talent. Would be good if he avoided the mannerisms flinging his hands around as if he were always making a point. A n occasional gesture , for the rest a concert artist must depend wholly on his treasury of songs, to convey the rasas through his voice and thus produce ecstasy, affection, frustration, devotion and peace through tonal variations. Fortunately he is young, and we may yet get an Ariyakkudi Ramanuja Iyengar or T.K Rangachari before long to adorn our carnatic music seasons.

      this has been the going style after Sanjay Sub (maybe others as well) started it, now everyone does it, even raga, and even kids do it, just do not watch the video till it hits a portion where the exposition is so incredible that nothing matters. But Sudhaji, and the list is ever shrinking, is definitely different.

    So bad that a stalwart like Sri Bhakthavalsalam setting wrong example. Many people who learn to follow a krithi would tread a wrong path if they learn from this performance. He should not be showing the power of his practice while following a krithi. That could have been done during thaniyavarthanam.
    Same time I have heard Sri Bhakthavalsalam accompanying senior vidwans giving excellent support and bringing out the essense of krithi with great aesthetics. Don't know why he plays like this for juniors and new generation vocalists. Or is he trying to prove his dominance on stage...!!!?
    For example, felt disappointing the way he followed Samaja Vara Gamana...

    With respect, playing of mrudangam is too horrible... We lost the enjoyment of the concert... The mrudangam should be apt with the song... He just tried to show his calibre... Thaniyavarthanam is the real space to show his potential... Otherwise, it would be unbearable...
