If not doing spelling tests how do you check for mastery of r-controlled words and so on
I like to do dictation every week - it's similar to a spelling test however I don't necessarily "grade" them. I have them write their attempt at the pattern/work on the left side of the sheet, and then afterwards I show them the actual spelling. They rewrite it on the right side correctly and compare their original attempt to the correct word. I can collect this sheet then to take data!

What is the best way to get my first grader to learn her spelling words? I try to make it fun so she is excited about doing her homework.
Any way you can have her build the words (like with magnetic letters) or write on a whiteboard with fun markers could help!
