Check out my reaction to Bojack Horseman: • DOCTOR REACTS TO BOJAC...
    It's a Sin reviews: • DOCTOR REACTS TO IT'S ...
This Doctor REACTS video is looking at another episode of House MD. House was admitted to a psychiatric hospital to address his Vicodin dependency and of course, this uncovers some much deeper issues. He's now having more therapy (Andre Braugher plays the therapist) and this is the episode called "Baggage" seeing him in a therapy session and all the problems that arise. It's a very good (but not perfect) depiction of therapy as well as looking at House's case of a patient with amensia.

I love these episodes in House. It feels like it's written for stage in the best ways. Also watching this form of therapy is what made me realize what I want from a therapist because I also have a tendency to be pessimistic about life because it feels more rational than optimism. I need someone I respect who can offer a change in perspective and why I might believe it rationally speaking.
I want to be clear, I'm highly emotional and sensitive so I'm not saying "rationality" because I'm less emotional. I have a sort of paranoia that people all think negatively about me specifically and that sadly, people are more likely to do the wrong and selfish thing over the selfless thing. I do believe that humanity has the tremendous capability of doing great good, but sadly most people do the selfish self serving thing and are more likely to react negatively to everything different or new. It feels statistically more accurate to me but I have no actual evidence to back me up. I probably have a moderate to mild undiagnosed personality disorder but most likely it's due to my own mini traumas from my life simply growing up different from everybody else. I kinda relate to House a tiny bit in that regard, it is lonely being different...unfortunately in my case my differentness doesn't make me a savant.

I know what you're talking about, I was the same way in therapy. A therapist I had years ago said that I'm really good at thinking my feelings and really bad at feeling my feelings (ie, I intellectualize/rationalize instead of actually process emotions/situations). Therapists who can call you out on your bullshit (with compassion) are the best. I hope you find someone who works for you!

She‘s a bit young for dementia but delirium stemming from an infection, severe dehydration, drugs or something of sorts could be possible. I‘m not sure if this type of severe amnesia is common with delirium though…

My grandfather had dissociative amnesia brought on by "shell shock" when he was in world war 2. He was found in a field in Holland not knowing who he was, looking at his hands thinking they weren't his own. They treated him with electro therapy (he said there was a medical officer that forgot to anaesthetise him on one occasion) and he spent a month in a padded cell before being moved onto a ward. When he got home, his father took him on open-top buses that went all around the city trying to jog his memory and enlisted the help of a local electrician

House's model of phrenology is a direct reference to Sherlock Holmes' habit of delving into the absurdities of humanity to glean insight, as well as a simple understanding of belief that may be relevant at some point to deduction. All data must be considered, no matter how absurd, in order to narrow the probabilities; you can olnly rule out what you know.

There's something that I think you can consider reacting to. It's the TV series Elementary (modern Sherlock Holmes in New York). Sherlock, as always, is dealing with addiction and recovery and there are some very powerful episodes where he tries to explain his struggles and to find a way to stay sober long-term. I would be very interested to hear your opinion on these topics. I can point you to specific episodes and/or scenes, if you'd like :)

"memory" - so i have very poor "procedural" memory, but really good "episodic" memory, creating a funny situation in math class where if you asked me "how do you do this equation" i would draw a blank - but if you asked me "how did the teacher explain this" i could walk through the lecture nearly verbatim by just remembering what she did on the board. when it comes to procedural stuff i usually have to do things copycat like that - remembering in my mind and doing it as i see - until it becomes intuitive, because i CANNOT remember steps to save my life.

    3 causes of amnesia
1.Physical- physical trauma to the brain or systems connected to the brain effecting its processing. Concussions and injuries that have involved the brain.
2.Biological- this can be by conditions that can cause the brain to become compromised or chemically imbalanced. Dementia, Schizophrenia or medications can cause this.
3.Psychological- This can be experiences in a person life that can cause someone as he said “to dissociate” from reality. This can cause; a long term behaviour change, spontaneous behaviour changes caused by a trigger external or internal, or dissociation just as examples.

Ridiculous medical anomalies aside, House is the only past series (besides Hannibal) that I still go back to once in awhile. His character is my all time favorite, and although I'd like to think I've changed quite a bit, I still relate to his worldview and bleak humor so much. Also, I'm pretty sure the phrenology head was meant to be ironic.😆Either that or a terrible prop guy.
Andre Braugher could twitch a few facial muscles and tell an entire story on his beautiful face. His character's brief appearance on the series single-handedly (?word?) saved the series from otherwise bad writing in the end. He had a knack for elevating everything he was involved in all the way back to Kojak. We lost him way too soon.

House is an entertainment show, not a documentary. Any medecine is secondary to the episode's entertainment value. No hospital or MDs operate the way the actors do on House or any other medical-themed series. If any medecine is accurate, it's just pure dumb luck that the writers and the medical advisor to the series have worked in concert. There are lawyers who criticize law enforcement series for the same liberties taken for reasons of drama or comedy. It's increasingly obvious as time goes by that as John Lennon once put it: "Nothing is real."
