A “fastest finger first” quiz scoring system

This system is a great way of having a pub quiz type of “fastest finger first” operation without the need for phone apps or any cumbersome wires. It also avoids the whole tedious "passing around of papers" which often leads to far too much discussion about what constitutes a correct answer :)
I have used remote relays (tested to around 30m distance) as the “trigger” and laser-cut a simple box and soldered an arcade button into the A button guts of a remote control. The benefits to this are that it’s completely wireless from a player point of view, scores are live on screen (assuming you have a projector connected to your laptop) and the battery in the button boxes is only ever used when the button is pushed, making it very efficient. The receiver end needs 12v power to power the relays and the arduino can be powered off the laptop you are using to run the quiz.
