Forest ecologist Steve Sillett is leading a team of scientists as they climb and measure every branch of some of the last and tallest old growth redwoods in California. Their goal is to learn how these ancient giants have historically responded to climatic shifts and to monitor how they are being impacted today by global warming.

hmmm beavers only take on smaller trees maybe trees of a diameter of two feet or less.

I live in the redwoods and we have local legends that report that the
biggest of the biggest redwood trees were dropped long ago. There
is a local story of a logger who after working in the woods all day
returned to town & popped into a saloon for a drink before heading
home to supper who reported that on that day him & his crew
dropped a big redwood & once on the ground it was measured to a bit
over 400ft. And another where the logger reported his big tree
measured 420ft. These are first person accounts so they are thought
to be true around here.
