Here are my takeaways:
1. Don't ride random beach coasters
2. Don't hop fences
3. Don't screw around
4: don't have bad luck
5. Only sit in the middle seat
Don't be obese or try to ride while lacking major body parts
Don't take the "seat that's known to be more accomodating to larger passengers"
@@kenosjumpscaresTHIS, every accident is always worst at front to back.
i gotta say, it is weirdly comforting that most ride accidents are caused by human error or people being idiots as opposed to the ride being unsafe
U should look into the Chinese amusement park accidents, a greater number are from unsafe rides
@@synsol1008 unless your in china, who is gonna ride chinese rides?
@@rylaltathey're just giving an example of accidents that weren't caused by human error. they're not saying it's likely for anyone to actually ride them
This does also fall short in analysis. Crowd psychology and crowd dynamics are a well researched and generally predictable area of science.
Knowing the target demographic means we can predict what their normal and extreme responses will be, which means we can design the rides and parks around this - and many are, particularly the wealthiest ones with the highest daily visit counts which include both anti and counter surge designs for people rushing to get to or events and people trying to evacuate in an emergency equally.
Even if we were as efficient with these descriptions as the rest of the video, that would only add 40 seconds extra description per event?
bro did we even watch the same video? half of these accidents were caused by poor maintenance
sorry but i misread the title and i thought it said “TOP TEN rollercoaster accidents” like a fucking watchmojo list and burst out laughing at the absurdity😭
TOP TEN WORST AMUSEMENT PARK ACCIDENTS EVER (PEOPLE DIED!)
I’ve seen videos with that as the real title 💀
@@deakwithit (Gone massacre)

watchmojo did a "top 10 mass shootings" at some point 😭😭
I used to be a ride operator for the Sandblaster coaster back in 2017. Lemme tell y'all, that entire park was SKETCHY. It's a miracle no one was killed there
I actually rode it about two months before it derailed, scariest ride I’ve ever been on for the wrong reasons.
@@overcharge3438I remember my scariest ride for wrong reasons. Son of Beast kings Island with the loop. I felt so unsafe and I believe it was sometime before the accident. I had huge bruises
Which park are you referring to? Six flags or a different one?
@@debbiekerr3989 datona beach I think
When I was living in Daytona I would joke about how the rides there looked like deathtraps. They surely looked the part.
The reason why your channel is at the top of my list for these sort of videos:
1. No clickbait. If you're going to talk about an accident, you talk about that accident.
2. If speculation/opinion occurs, you state that, you don't act like it's fact.
3. You have insider knowledge as an industry employee. So you know the general ins and outs of the industry.
"Every regulation is written in blood. Don't be a hero; just follow the rules."
Using glue to hold together an axel is wild.
I'll never understand why they opt for the cheapest option for rides for some of these accidents (mentioned in this top ten or on your channel)
its because of capitalism
the people in charge of the park want to make as much money as possible and spend as little money as possible, no matter who gets hurt along the way
@@saucepart2electricboogaloo461 It's not "muh capitalism", you brain fried zoomer. If any system is going to result in corner cutting, it's going to be the crappy communist system where the government tells you how much you can charge for something. What really happened is the "normalization of deviance" where someone stops following the proper procedure, doesn't notice anything right way, and soon enough everyone keeps doing it because "oh, it's just as effective and saves time". This is because teenagers whose brains haven't fully developed (like yours) can't see/don't care about the long term ramifications of their actions until the chicken come home to roost.
@@saucepart2electricboogaloo461 a better word for that can be 'greed' as even places without capitalism still suffer skimped products for greed. Just saying.
the other angle with capitalism is when customers get wind that a product is bad or it's simply a product they don't want, they don't buy it. then the company is forced to make the product good or go out of business like Volition Games did when their 2022 Saints Row reboot game that very few people wanted flopped.
@@saucepart2electricboogaloo461There is no economic system that does better- this means there are no problems with capitalism that aren't just problems with people or with the world.
@@ShadowRulah capitalism enshrines the growth and acquisition of capital above all else including people. Other systems can be greedy, capitalism is the embodiment of greed and will always be so.

Hold the fu- Da fuck do you mean they used *GLUE* ?????
Probs super glue but still bad 😅
If it was gorilla glue, it'd be fine, but anything else is insane.
@@BloodInTheStrawberries imagine a gorilla glue commercial showing footage of the accident then the gorilla jumps out with a sign: “should’ve used gorilla glue” 10/10 product advertisement
Lots of types of glue out there. Might be a metal glue or industrial one but it’s still not a good idea

I think the most upsetting thing about the Superman incident is that those ride operators more than likely had no idea why the t bars were longer. They might've thought they were doing what they were meant to by moving him.
im pretty sure in the superman ride the guy threatened the operator to let him ride not sure tho just heard many people say it
I didn't quite understand why were the front seatbelts longer. Can someone explain?
@@umi2751 no changes were made to the restraints in that row, so its hard to say. one could theorize that it could be related to the collision in 2001 but i dont believe there is any evidence to back this up.
@@The0Train coaster college uses official documents which holds confirmed information from incidents. park security more than likely would've been called in the event that someone threatened a ride operator, which also would've been included in an incident report. while its not impossible, if it was notable or effected the outcome, it more than likely would've been included in the documents and therefore the video.
@@seraphssong thanks for the explanation!
The fence outside the Batman ride is electrocuted now.
For real? Fair enough but why wasn't it protected in the first place?
@@ThePlayerOfGamesbecause a large open area where an open air train going 50+ miles an hour is, shouldn't be a place where people want to willingly be, in all honesty, all fences that close to rollar coaster danger zones should be electrified, (not to disrespect the poor boy) BUT BECAUSE NOW EVERYONE ON EARTH IS FUCKING STUPID
@@ThePlayerOfGamesthey assumed nobody would be stupid enough to get close to a high speed ride
@alcapony4213 I've seen sooo many idiots climb the fence to get a hat / pair of glasses / flip flop etc. at The Batman in StL. It's like they forget the track is inverted or something. Surprised no riders broke a foot!
@@pickles3128 I think the person who struck and killed the kid did end up breaking their leg or foot or maybe i'm getting confused with an accident on a different inverted coaster.
Ill never forget May 1, 2004. I was right next to the guy that died on the line until my wife asked me to get a cariculture made. While getting the cariculture made all hell broke loose at the Superman ride right next to where we were.
I've spent some time trying to understand what was a "cariculture" until I remembered people usually do "caricatures" in thoses parks lol
How does that make any sense though. Caricatures are found outside the ride lines cause they're always so long, so what do you mean when you say you were right next to him? You were in line then left?
@@watchinyoutube8919most likely
Your wife and the guy switched places? Cuz I only saw 2 seats in the front
@@watchinyoutube8919 Yeah thats what he means, he was in the line then left. Given how they board those rides, he might've been sitting right next to the man.
14:54 My uncle was a park paramedic at the time of the accident. He decided to take the day off to visit his family. If he hadn't he would've been there responding to the accident.
When I see negligence like in the 2nd clip, I feel like the entire park should be shut down and the people ultimately responsible should be facing consequences. The park is responsible for guest safety and buying a questionable product is still negligence.
If my time playing rollercoaster tycoon 2 has taught me anything, it's that behind every rollercoaster crash is a bored kid that wants to see something go boom.
There’s a reason why roller coasters have posted signs saying “Remain Seated” or “Do Not Stand Up”, and it’s to prevent tragic accidents like these from happening. Keep your hands and arms inside the train!
Thankfully never been on a ride that encountered a problem, but the guys at Kings Dominion running Flight of Fear did troll me once. Rainy day, so my friend and I were the only ones on the ride, the operator saw I was scared and said "Be careful that seat is broken." I was like "WHAT?!? I want to move seats!" Then he replied by hitting the launch button!
I didn’t realize Kings Island had a sister park? That’s kinda cool actually
Oh yeah, the flight of fear ops at Kings Dominion LOVE to troll people. Some of the best I've heard were
"5...4.....3....Bye Bye!" * Launch *
"Huh, what's this funny red flashing light? Oh well," * Launch *
And of course, the old "hey, I think this restraints are broken--" * Launch *
They did it at Kings Island too last time I went
@@magpie8351 yea, i dont think joking around and telling someone the restraints are broken is very funny.
@@majorphysics3669come on buddy the scariest part is leaving the house at that point 😂
@@Intruder63 idk, fearing that you could potentially fly out of the ride the whole time you're riding it, kinda doesnt seem very funny.
Seems like almost all of these could’ve been avoided had maintenance done their job properly, or if people would follow the rules of the ride.
And that’s the story! We can only hope other parks start to learn their lessons based on these events. From a business standpoint, regular proper maintenance saves a shit ton of money in the long run instead of something serious happening due to disrepair. Then just from a human standpoint, nobody should ever need to get hurt on a ride because of this. These machines are actually incredibly safe creations. It’s incredible really! So why on earth skip out on the maintenance that helps keep them safe??
And the rest caused by guest hubris.
Well what else would cause it, captain obvious
Actually seems like fat people are just blobs
@@mttcwll Are you joking? Poor engineering? The point is these rides are built safely and are inherently safe... accidents occur not due to any fault with the ride. Do you feel smart now, "captain obvious"?
1. You are line the only channel i trust to give the right information about these topics
2. I have been NEEDING this exact list for a while
3. I need a podcast of you just talking about accidents, operation, behind the scenes and the mechanics behind coasters
You're doing amazing keep up the good work
1. No Spin Roller Coasters
2. No messing around
3. Don't every ride a rollercoaster ever again in your entire life
I remember the horrible Dragster accident that led to the rides retirement in 2021. Im surprised that the dragster accident isn’t in this because that was a significant accident that led to a woman being permanently disabled.
Love your video and fun fact
Six flags (fiesta Texas) use some of your videos as training (specifically the mine drop ride)
That's insane dude, I'll have to check it out
I’ve always held Fiesta Texas in high regard (and not just because it’s my home park.) Now I’ve got even more reason to❤
Thats cool to hear!
I remember the Batman ride accident so vividly. Those teens were nothing but trouble, and I'm glad no one was hurt despite the man needing to change his clothing because of blood.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that, I'm just happy that nobody was severely injured... (other than the poor kid.)
I know you aint appose to say it but... how the hell did the foot that did ze thing not break from going that fast?
Someone was decapiated
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od I don’t think they meant the teens “should die.” More so that the teens willingly hopped a fence and entered dangerous areas of the ride. Chances of getting struck and killed by a moving train rise significantly for anyone in that situation-which is exactly why the fence was there in the first place.
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od Where did they say that the teens should die? All they said was they were nothing but trouble. Stop being so dramatic.

pretty comforting to think that majority of rollercoaster accidents are due to the riders not listening to general instructions
13:07 This ride was closed shortly after the accident and was removed from the boardwalk. It used to be in a decent theme park with a few more rides, but all of the rides were removed and now its just an empty plot of grass. Currently, there is only the slingshot ride and the vomatron at screamers park, which is about 500 feet down the street from where the old park used to be.
Safety is where you often want someone autistic to make sure people do things properly EVERY single time and in ALL circumstances, including the circumstances where there is pressure to let rules slide, and when it is most important to ensure they are followed.
Just found you. Appreciate your experienced and researched approach. And, much appreciate that you respect the hurt and sometimes killed riders. It's not exploitive and pandering. Thank you.
This is a wonderfully done video, very impressed with your work as always
First story is pretty wild. Heard it many times. Allegedly, the person who had struck the boy shattered his shin bone.
amazing video, ive seen at least ten other videos about amusement park accidents and this is the best one ive ever seen , super informative , respectful , and honest without assumptions or opinions !!! instant subscription !!!!
Ooh perfect to listen to while I'm folding laundry, I salute you sir!
Great video! I like the primary research you did showing handwritten notes. For some reason the audio gets very quiet during the transitions between different accidents. You have a new subscriber!
And people make fun of me for not going on the "big rides".
I've seen how negligent businesses can be, and to me it's not worth the risk.
cool shorter queues
The Superman ride incident is actually frighteningly similar to something I been thru. One a the most recent times I’ve been to Cedar Point, I was getting on gatekeeper with my sister and I got in the seat but when they checked it, the employee wasn’t satisfied so she moved me to a different row I’m assuming bc it was slightly wider and had a longer belt. Obviously I’m alive to type this so I was fine. But thinking back on it now I’m so glad that didn’t happen to me bc that’s one a my biggest fears
The New Texas Giant accident wasn't "explained in detail," on this poor video, in spite of the cause being well known. The deceased riders torso was not underneath the lap bar but riding on top of it. Therefore, she was not restrained and came out from under the lap bar easily. The controversy over this accident is that one or more employees likely noticed this dangerous situation, but didn't use logic & common sense to figure out that the rider could leave her seat even though the lap bar was down & locked properly. Employees might've been reluctant to call attention to this, not wanting to refuse the lady her ride or embarrass her due to her obesity. There were no mechanical problems with New Texas Giant that day. The amusement industry did learn a valuable lesson over this accident and parks worldwide have initiated measures to prevent this from happening again.
Yep, the operators feel victim to “chronic niceness” and it cost that lady lower body. However, at the end of the day, nobody owes you safety. Don’t trust a high school kid with your life. It wasn’t the rider’s fault per say, but she should have known her limits.
@@davemccage7918what a dumb mindset to have on that incident. Regardless of their ages it is Six flags responsibility to provide a safe environment. She didn't speak much english and it's reported that she did ask to be double checked and let off and they reassured her. So yea she was concerned for her safety. I've gone to that six flags many times since childhood and many of the people employed there were people I had studied with. That park was slacking on safety and overall just knowledgeable staff until this incident lost them even more money and slapped them in the faces.
Not sure how you could attribute this to anything but politically correct cult of victimhood which now pervades everything. Not to mention the incidences with disabled people, the operators just don’t want to be sued by some entitled loudmouth.
Not wanting to embarrass obese people has lead to more than 1 death... It needs to be part of training if it isn't. Safety is one area where it's acceptable to be less than polite.
I was working there back when it happened. Most folks fail to realize we were yelled at and suspended for denying riders. I was forced to let a basically toddler ride on the batman ride there because the manager refused to deny the family. And almost all of us were 16yrs old working 12 hour shifts in the heat
These accidents are sad, especially because people lost their lives. I wonder how many of these accidents could’ve been prevented? The first story is a prime example of what happens when you don’t follow the rules. But a lot of these other stories, the writers were just going about their day at an amusement park. That kind of stuff scares me because I love amusement parks. I love roller coasters and I always think that I’m going to be perfectly safe on them. But these accidents happened and I’m pretty sure that the people that the accidents happen to felt the same way😢😢
I would say every one of them was preventable.
@@JMetal98Preventable yes, but what’s scary is that most of these couldn’t have been predicted by the victims.
@@drumnbasssakuga9352 no of course not. I just meant if inspections were done, parts replaced as needed (instead of rigged) then many of the ride accidents you see wouldnt happen.
ALL of them. Simple as that. If maintenance had been performed as specified by ride manufacturers - no accident. If park employees felt empowered to remove a guest who should not ride - no accident. If guests who don’t fit the the parameters of a rider and accepted they should not ride - no accident. If guests obeyed the safety signs and safety barriers meant to ensure their safety - no accident. None of these were caused by an “act of god”. I’ve yet to find an amusement accident that was unavoidable.
so im never going on a rollercoaster again
YAY queues have 1 less person!

I still wish a what really happened video on Idlewild and or the minor Thinderbolt accident or the death caused by a microburst at Kennywood.
Idlewild is coming!
The Kennywood one sounds interesting
Those danger zones (DZs) should be fenced off. Lads will always go where they should not be.
You should start a podcast and interview former theme park workers. I bet they have some interesting stories
This is insane. Thanks for the quality uploads, and keep up the great work!
I absolutely love riding roller coasters and now that I have permanent damage in my lower back from a serious car accident that happened almost a year ago and now I can't ride anything that has a jerking movement.
I love how you went to the trouble to create animations and models and find original footage.
I remember an incident with the Great Nor'easter at Morey's Pier where a maintenance worker, in a restricted area while the ride was running, was struck by the foot of a rider and killed. This was back in the early '90s.
As much as I really wish that I had a second chance to be paid as a ride operator as a second life, it also seems, as small of a chance as it may be, it's also the one job that if things go wrong, they can go WRONG...
love this one because it’s sort of like those clickbait horribly incorrect theme park accident videos but done right
Two of the accidents on this list had the same rollercoaster design (the mouse one) and it really scares me because there’s one of them at the amusement park close to where I live😭😭
I've been on every coaster on the list accept Big Thunder Mtn Disneyland, Ride of Steel Darien Lake and Fujin Raijin 2

The Superman ride incident happened at my Six Flags a few months before I was born. It was reopened under a new name, Great Giant I think, then eventually renamed again back to Superman. I rode it once and only once, even properly strapped in you still feel like you're gonna fly out
The fact I just rode on Superman at Six flags New England and they had a girl trapped in one of the seats because the seatbelt malfunctioned. (they had to use the jaws of life to get her out) Scared me more after this video with that horrible death of that guy. Glad there were no photos.
The fact that they used freaking glue on a wheel still blows my mind

Oh my god, I rode Opa at Mount Olympus literally 3 days before the accident. I didn’t know there was an accident on that ride. That’s terrifying
I remember when the Six Flags accident happened in 2008. From the story that I remember is that the boys were looking for a hat that one of them lost during his ride on The Batman earlier.
Damn I went on the Superman in New England all the time growing up and never knew someone died on it. I can still vividly remember that last turn. Crazy.
I've ridden on the New Texas Giant, the ride shown at Fun Spot Kissimmee FL and the Train coaster at Disneyland.
Yo I rode the Batman ride in Georgia in 2013. Knowing the history behind puts everything in perspective of why the fences surrounding the park were a bit larger than the other rides
i am just happy that i live in germany where everything is soo safe that nothing like this could happen
I’m watching this video staying at Regal Oaks and can see Fun Spot Kissimmee from my room! What a coincidence!
I’m glad I got the full story of the Ron White joke with the decapitated roller coaster in Georgia.
why is this so interesting
the way the audio drops out in between accidents is jarring and makes me think my airpods dc'ed
I was let on a wooden rollercoaster with my mom when I was a small lightweight child, and she remembers feeling so frightened at the air I was getting that she was holding me down for the whole ride. Thankfully I’m okay and nothing happened, but I understandably had a fear of roller coasters for many years. I’m so thankful God protected me!

Never enter restricted areas around the rides at an amusement park. They're off limits because they're dangerous.
Moral of the story with lap bars, don't be overweight, have legs, test for yourself whether it's actually engaged.

I love your content since you do a good job explaining each accident. One I would like you to cover one day is the 2011 Spinning Barrels accident at Holiday Park in Germany if there are good English translations of the articles about it. (I read on Wikipedia that the only reason the 11-year-old victim got into the restricted area was because someone had left the gate to it unlocked but want to know how and why it happened.)
