The primary reason for Gary Burghoff leaving M*A*S*H was he wanted to spend more time with his family. He also felt he wasn't getting his proper dues in his role. The series did turn into more of a dramady after his departure. He was the only actor who starred on the original 1970 M*A*S*H Movie.
