Can someone explain why he doesn't have to go through the pit lane exit?
Or is that just for the race at Indy?

If other cars are on the track, using the lane inside turns 1 and 2 is necessary to get up to racing speed. But with no one else on track for qualifying, they can just get on the track and go.
