I just want you all to know that I really wanted to call this video "Why John Stones is basically Batman" but I thought it would give us incredibly weird search ranking.
Hi Adam, great video thank you. You mentioned only a couple of other players are as good as him in this type of role, just wondering who they are as I've not seen many players over the years occupy this sort of position?
UEFA ban City,show 0 Proof
UEFA to let City win CL/Treble
Inter pre determined CL Winner?🤔
@@99toon99 i think declan rice could do a really good job; similiarly hes very good on the ball despite being tall and physical. might explain why man city have shown interest
@@99toon99 I think Martinez at Man United would be a *lot* of fun in this role, and probably Frenkie de Jong. This is secretly the kind of player I’m hoping Declan Rice becomes though 👀
Stones is just living on another planet at the moment, I dread the day pep packs his bags and moves on. What he has done to the players around him is nothing short of genius.
Was lucky enough to be at the FA cup final. Was blown away with Stones. Simply world class.
Same here, absolutely incredible!
The funny thing is 3 years ago. John said pep told him he'll be a good midfielder. John laughed it off as a joke. And now this 😂
Really? I don't think he'd laugh it off. There's been talk of Stones playing in midfield ever since his Everton days. He knew he was capable even then
What a player. I love that little inside out, side foot curl both Stones and Rodri put on the ball when playing the bounce pass out to the fullback, just to make it a little safer. Exquisite
@@jamesbaxter4920 defensive move of the match. Just too beautiful
@@a1.ghost. I was there , he laughed like an hyena
Pep didn’t get lucky, he literally made that role and had the sight for how itll work
Exactly
I’m genuinely very happy that I finally found someone who thinks exact same what I think on John Stones , I’ve always admired him as a high quality center back and one of the best of all time . But this season he has been phenomenal and I think he is the most underrated player in world football.
That Stones dummy movement with the ball was EPIC withstanding the pressure pretty easily 👌
Was lucky - I wouldn't try that again tbh. Although he might have won a free kick if they tried to tackle him
@@draoicht22 but when you play the midfield role for a while you get used to things like that, turns, feints, ball movements these are things midfielders must learn.
This is just about what Beckenbauer used to do. One of the greatest footballers to ever play the game. So Yeah, John Stones, great stuff.
that's why to us city fans he's known as the barnsley beckenbauer 😉
@@edenholt4394 no way, never heard that lol then again I don’t follow city
apt either way
@@sidvyas8549 we do call him the Barnsley Beckenbauer
No, becke was a libero. That role has been dead for ages. Maybe pep like things of antiquities. Am sure he do make a nice museum keeper in Egypt
@@goodman4093 so? Foden doesn’t play even remotely close to the same position as Iniesta, we still call him the Stockport Iniesta
I still remember people wrote him off in 16/17 & 19/20 season.
John Stones Player of the season!!
Been backing General Stones for years now, watching him get better and better. His passing has been very good this year and his rampaging runs really can throw a team and open a lot of areas for teammates to play in. It has been very awesome to see him operate in such a way this season!
Loving all of this. Cheers to all the "New" fans of Stoney - but he's been quietly killing it for years. When he had a dip in form (for personal reasons) a few seasons ago, Pep had his back - as all great managers should. Love this guy!
Yes! Been backing him the whole way and it is so sweet
I'll be honest when he had that dip I got fed up with him and was ready for us to cut our losses with him, thankfully pep is our manager and not me 😂😂
He’s been in though spot before. Sometimes not even playing for the whole season (like laporte this season), but he keep it professional & doing his job. Wish cancelo would have that attitude..
everyone was talking abt him past season as the talented inverted Fb. Now no team wanted him.
@@Sproles11 agreed I’ve backed him the entire way and he’s always showcased the quality he could have at his best (which we see near every min of every game now) but I can also acknowledge he did have quite a few shortcomings in the first few seasons and moments where it seemed like he might not have the intelligence needed to play as he does. In the end he’s delivered everything we could have asked and more from himself!
@@adamrogerson7280 You have to be patient. There are hills and valleys In every endeavour. They're not robots.
If he wins 2 more PLs and 2 CLs, he'll be the undisputed greatest.
Finally Stones has become the world class footballer everyone expected he will become when he was young. He is easily the top 10 best footballers in the world right now.
City fans feeling like proud fathers seeing the masses finally praiising him first. John stones is a complete defender.
I still remember when 3 years ago Stones was struggling to make the first team. Now he's performing a 10/10 performance in the FA cup final
I've said it for years before Maguire went to Utd for £85 million, that Stones was England best CB. I was laughed off in comments sections. Glad everyone can see what Stones does. It's absolutely brilliant
Maguire is the best IMHO just because he never played for pep
I believe Pep has ability to turn even Maguire into prime Maldini. United just make average/good players worst.
It’s crazy how he still has some few years left especially next to Dias and akanji
Rico Lewis played in a similar role before Stones. Some might say Pep used Rico to invent the role and brought Stones to perfect it.
Love Stones. He deserves all the love....he's been thru shyte and come out smelling like roses.
That turn was 'stone' cold !
He is too savage with that move
finally, a youtuber who appreciates this exact man
Simply world class 🏆🙏🏻
It's because Guardiola has found a Busquets like in him.
🎵Johnny, Johnny Stones, … 🎵
As an American watching this guy play is nothing short of amazing. He's incredible!! I'm an American football fan but he's got incredible all around skill with a ball. I watched the play where he knocked the ball out of his own goal so quickly, he moved so well.. such speed and awareness.. so fun to watch defense even.. but about this off-sides rule..
City haven’t conceded 2 goals since their 4-2 win against Tottenham which was in January John stones definitely had a big role in that
Imagine John Stones a few years later replacing Busquets at Barca.
No need, Man City is now the place to be ahead of Barca
Excellent analysis 😃 He’s been awesome this year
John Stones > Declan Rice
You can consider him being that from right now.
He’s better than Rio
Much better
Give Rico a year .
Love the breakdown you've done here. I liked Stones before, love him now. Classic turn at 3:02. His back to them as well. Amazing. I remember watching it live and thinking, "Ballsy".
Love that he’s finally getting the credit he’s deserved for some time. Best on the planet
100% agree with everything you said 👍
He has great qualities, by nature, and a genius as a manager. The combination of these two aspects created a masterpiece.
a phenomenal football player!
I remember the days he was completely out of favour but Pep defended how hard he was working to contend.
He is right up there with Michael duberry.
This was great, obviously he’s not played their long enough yet, but genuinely believe he just needs to play there a few more months for him to be considered one of the best in his position- AND ITS NOT EVEN HIS ORIGINAL POSITION
The king in the north!!
Good video, not many other players who could perform the role this well! Laporte had a go in one of the last league games and looked good. He's as good of a passer as Stones, and a similar build to Stones and Rodri. Shame he barely got played this season, I'm sure he'll leave because of this
He makes a lot of mistakes
He's just not as good as stones in that missed role. It's not just about passing. Stones has that Midfielder's level awareness of the space around him that Laporte lacks.
@@FormerPessitheRobberfan Plus laporte lacks speed to get back
poetry.....
Honestly speaking stone’s just brilliant about everything!
Ironically one of the few players I think could do the same thing as Stones is currently doing is... Rodri.
3:00 literally my reaction every fucking time I watch this clip again
stones is brilliant !!
I think Stones has been such an underrated player. He was out of favour for a little while but Pep paid a lot of money for him because he saw the potential he had. We are now just beginning to see what he saw. Same goes for Grielish.
This video highlights both the brilliance of Guardiola and Stones and how innovative this tactical change has been on modern football. Stones does not get the credit he deserves because the watching public still think of centre backs and holding midfielders as separate entities. When British football fans get asked to name top level centre backs they inevitably go for the likes of Terry, Adams, Vidic, etc. All defenders of the highest quality but primarily as defenders with one role. No one knows how to define Stones’ role yet - it hasn’t even got a name: Advanced centre back? Second pivot? Forward sweeper?
Just as Pep has fundamentally changed the perception of goalkeepers in this country, he’s now getting people to think of fullbacks and centre backs in a whole different way.
He has been brilliant for about 4 years or so, the only bad thing about him is his habit of picking up injuries
Dear adam,
canny video as always👍
Fabien Schar - better footballer, better looking👏👍🖖😎
Regards,
Yeah Schar has him bang to rights on “rizz” and “smoulder” and “long passes”
"We've seen a lot of other teams are doing this".. Yeah it's because they're all copying Pep's tactic.. Zabaleta was the first guy played as an inverted position back in Pep's first season in the premier league but it didn't work well enough and Pep stopped using it until last season with both Cancelo and Walker played inverted position including Zinchenko..
Now both Arteta and Klopp are trying to adapt with inverted tactics and we have seen both Liverpool and Arsenal's full backs are doing so..
Soon we will see more teams adapting Pep's style of play..
He literally used it the following season with Delph at left back into midfield and won 100 points.
So a modern Philip Albert.
I’ve always loved him, one of the greater signings I’ve ever seen city make
Stone's is legend...fact
While I agree with your sentiments on John Stones, are you related to Roberto De Zerbi???😂😂😂😂😂😂
If only we had an England manager interesting enough to try things like this :(
Eddie Howe might eventually when he actually builds his squad with Newcastle, he turned Joelinton from a striker/lw to a box to box midfielder
the batman of manchester
The King Of The North!
It all started with that goal against bvb
Super John
John Stones has the stones...
The Barnsley Beckenbauer. 😂
He already is ALL-TIME
Can we say Johnyyyyy Stones is a Manchester City Busquets?
Blud turn into busquets with more speed
Hi Adam!
HI!
John Stones gained all his skills by playing as Harry Maguire's international partner.
Ik why it's because he plays defend and midfield he knows how to score good physical good pace so yeah ik my team
Johnny......Johnny Stooooones
If Johnny get injured, the backup would be Rodri doing his job and gundogan doing rodri’s job
possibly although i don't know if pep would feel comfortable doing that, i think its more likely we would stick to a more traditional 433, maybe with rico lewis dropping into midfield like we've seen a few times
I admire Pep. When his players have injury, they come back to the game with full recovery.
Rodri has no back up in the team unfortunately. So someone else will replace stones and wing back will come in to midfield.
Agreed but I’m bias 😬
Guardiola training stones to be the next busquets
Just discovered this channel .... When the fuck did clery move to actual sports lol
Ironically about the same time Stones moved into midfield
@@adamcleryFFT seen a lot of your wrestling work this crossover is absolutely seamless great work my friend
What a crazy year 😂 never thought I’d see Stones and Rodri doing anything offensively to help our team then Bam 💥
❤❤ I believe Rodri more important
Well as many of people here that I do NOT agree with this title, Stones is good but still DeBruyne is the brain of City, after him Bernado Silva also can create a lot of important passes. Guardiola is using Stones just to create more space , it's similar with many teams for example Real with Militao.
You’re obviously one that doesn’t appreciate defense
I wonder what Southgate will do with Stones for England.
Barnsley Beckenbauer - OR - Barnsley Busquets?...
Beckenbauer 2.0
John stones could actually make a better midfielder than paul schloles
Great Channel!! Yeah Stones is an alpha bully on the field lol we’ve just added a couple of weapons to relieve him of a lot of his superhero duties 🦸🏾 but Stones dominance is what will bring us another treble this year 🏆 he’s Ya Ya Toure 2.0
Believe Martinez can also do this role
who
@@tompoynton Lautaro Martinez
@@jonathankam3974 😂😂😂
Jhonny "Batman" Stones
Who killed Johnathan's Dog? Book II 😂😂😂
He's better (in that role) than Declan Rice, so maybe Southgate should be playing Rice as a CB, and Stones in the #6.
And of course get shot of Harry effing Maguire.
Do people think John stones is better than Rodri? I thought Rodri was Man City’s Busquets tbh.
He is very good bt i dont think he is our most important player, rodri is... Bt stones is english so i understand the hype...
They complement each other .FA Final Rodri was tired Stones was all over compensating
@@shoumomukherjee5662 true they do complement each other, but you have to admit if pep were to sub players of during a game the last player you would ever want to be subbed of is rodri, cause our team can't function without him on the pitch cause the drop off is almost instantaneous. Example of this would be our home game against leister city were we won 3 -1 due to 3 quick goals in the first half, but second half was something else cause pep took of rodri for Philips and we lost complete control of the midfield almost instantaneously cause Philips can't do rodri work and I don't think no one can do rodri work cause I don't think rodri has had a bad game all season even at the beginning when we were still finding our footing rodri was always there doing his job
Ps : sorry for the long essay just really love and appreciate what rodri does for city
@@ZDXP84 it's funny people saying Rodri's 1st season was not great to justify other players shit 1st seasons like what! Bro Rodri's 1st game that's when I knew he's great and he was outstanding for me we just didn't win the league
n1
The English love their English players - in a season where Haaland, De Bruyne, Rodri and Gundoan shined - Jonh Stones gets the podium?! 🤣How many of actually believe that Jonh Stones is more important than Rodri in that defensive midfield? You are going to say Jonh Stones with a straight face? Don't get me wrong - he is been fantastic but so has Akanji and Bernardo Silva and they don't get mentioned by anyone.
And yet he’s completely wasted by Southgate as he has to babysit Maguire for 90 mins a match.
He'll always be known as a swiss army knife but if people want good defending only, then no, probably not.
Lol you're talking nonsense. Stones purely as a defender is still world class.
@@FormerPessitheRobberfan I love Johnny, and yes he's world class but are we saying his defensive skills are up there with John Terry? I think we can be realistic without throwing shade. Not even Van Dijk competes with Terry defensively.
“BANANAS”
Remember when John Stones was a coty flop 💀💀💀 give it time, always.
I will fart in a bottle and sniff it if Southgate uses this type of tactic.
I pretty sure u do that anyway
@@sammypie5501 I'm sure you know a thing or two about farting considering you're full of hot air. But let's focus on Southgate horrendous management.
JOHNYYYYY JOHNYYYYY STONES
He gets the blues excited, he fooking hates United
JOHNYYYYY JOHNYYYYY STONES 🎶🎼
Because he is BRITISH😂
Jokes aside though he is very good. And Guardiola played a MAJOR role in that
I've never seen a footballer role like this.
He's like a false CB.
From ivnerting fullback to inverting cb , pep has come a long way in tactics. Next season expect rodri to play as iverting DM
It's not true that you couldn't put any player in that role. Hell, Stonesy is only playing there because Rico Lewis showed the way.
No you couldn't .Rico is not any player . He is special . He is a young prince in the City squad being coached carefully to be a master . Did you see Pep hug him at PL trophy celebration ?
Same level as kdb Silva ilkay? Calm
Down lol
He never said same level but we’re a well oiled machine so with Stones operating up front, we’re not missing a beat
Typical british media hype..........thats how they lost eventually when its matter the most.
How is the decision of a Spanish manager which has almost won them a treble, British media hype?
