In the Pacific islands the soft ones ( orange? I'm colorblind ) are fed to pigs, we only eat white or purple/Hawaiian sweet potato...blessings one love

i just bought my very first Jamaican Sweet Potatoes from Jem's Grocery Store in Brampton, ON. They have two locations. I peeled them, cut them up and bagged them to freeze for future use (soup). They are very stainy though. I mean really stainy. That's the only word I know of to describe them. They stained my cutting board AND my hands. It took alot to clean my hands.

battata is one name and they're of a firm dry texture when cooked.
japanese sweet potato tend to be much larger in size and very soft when cooked. hope this is helpful.

All a matter of where you were raised. I love my orange sweet potato and all the treats I make with them . I was so disappointed with the local ones since to me they were pretty tasteless . Now that I have cooked with them in several recipes , I get them better . Still prefer my orange beauties .
