  • For a number of years I had a painting studio as well as a music studio and also had lot of free time to work in both of them. Writing songs about the women I loved and trying to paint their images led me to think about the method of the madness - Using art forms to describe or depict the essential formlessness of the human character. The lyrics are a peek into my particular take on it.
    Sailing in Rainbows
    Between paintings and photographs
Mother Nature has the last laugh
and the face in the veil of darkness
    is still beyond my grasp.
Her blouse was blue and the sheets were white
the painting hangs in between our nights
but she wasn't afraid of darkness
at least not in the light.
    Chorus
Life is short and her eyes were green
but that's not what I mean.
Sailing in rainbows, this is where the time goes -
    silhouettes and cameos
how will I paint your shadow?
    sailing in rainbows.
See the shade of skin and bones
how the light can change a tone
how a form disappears in darkness
how we would but we don't.
Keep it simple and show restraint
or touch it up with a touch of paint
but the coat of many colors
    isn't worn by a saint.
    Chorus
The image is from a painting by the wonderful American painter and musician, Tim Lowly.
