    I had my choices and I selected Zoleo. We live in the back country in Southwestern USA and Zoleo works for us. I love the unlimited check-in messaging.

    Each unit has its plus and minuses, but I believe what makes the Zoleo far superior is the dedicated phone number making it far easier for non-techies to send messages to the Zoleo.

      Good call, I tend to agree, I am very much liking the Zoleo - czcams.com/video/cKZ7BMYBWNo/video.html

      Far superior? Isn’t dangerous if people start to send a lot of messages, the cost per message is in both directions?

      @@daghultgren Exactly. There will be lots of people with high bills they never expected.

    Useful comparison. The only thing I would add is that Zoleo plan's unlimited tracking option also includes unlimited check-in messages, at least in the USA. It would also be interesting to hear how these devices compare as general messaging devices, both from the standpoint of the device owner and the people they are communicating with. How do they compare when sending and receving messages to and from anyone, anywhere?

      The Inreach has unlimited preset messages. I believe it allows ten. So you could set it up communicate a lot of information without ever using your "paid" messaging.

    • @josephgrn2818
      @josephgrn2818 Před rokem

      @@krbmsw those presets will count against you for inReach according to their support page. Only the three default (starting, I’m okay, done) are free.

    • @krbmsw
      @krbmsw Před rokem

      @@josephgrn2818 they changed their policy. There are now 3 “Preset” and 3 “Checkin” messages that can be used in an unlimited manner. There are 20 “Quick Texts” that count against your messages. Still, 6 messages should cover the majority of most backpackers standard messages throughout the day.

    I have a Garmin 830 for cycling and also a Fenix watch for walking that I navigate with so you’d think I’d go for the messenger ( and I still might) but I’m thinking when cycling I could put either of these in a saddle bag and it would work just like being in a backpack. Do you think either / both would work that way?

    • @ukgpstraining

      They will both work through a saddlebag, i look at this subject at the exact points in the two videos below -
      Zoleo - czcams.com/video/cKZ7BMYBWNo/video.html
      inReach messenger - czcams.com/video/SAy-uYsYaBY/video.html
      I hope this helps.

    I've seen some reviews that there are noticeable delays in transmitting with the Garmin devices as well as some text messages are garbled. One advantage they have is the detailed weather report. i don't think that is an option on any of the plans for the Zoleo.

    • @ukgpstraining

      I am amazed how quickly the messages have being sent in, I look at that subject here - czcams.com/video/SAy-uYsYaBY/video.html
      I look at the weather on the Zoleo here - czcams.com/video/cKZ7BMYBWNo/video.html
      Both Garmin and Zoleo get their weather forecasts from the same source. I hope this helps.

      @@ukgpstraining Thank you. After watching several of your videos, I opted for a Zoleo during some great Black Friday Holiday sales. Def appreciate your insight and informative videos. Going to check your channel and see if you've a review on the Garmin Fenix 7x Sapphire.
